Tough draw i feel. Linetskaya can be tough, so can Suarez who she lost to last year, Sugiyami runs all day and all night, then Henin, all in her quarter

Dan23
May 20th, 2005, 12:57 PM
Yea it is tough...but Maria is a good enough player regardless to make it through..if shes hitting the ball nicely and serving well...Suarez hasnt been in great form but players like her step up when it comes to their favourite tournament...

Maria Croft
May 20th, 2005, 02:57 PM
I don't see any problems until the QF, of course Maria had to draw Henin, but I will be happy if she makes it to the QF so I wouldn't be disappointed if she would lose to henin, Of course Maria and Henin have to make the QF first ( I don't think Kuznetsova will be able to beat Henin and I don't think that any player Maria could face before the QF could be a problem for her)

Good luck Maria

Seriously... no offense.... but do you come to this polace to socialize.. or actually learn some Tennis?

Svetlana is being a chaos this season...

the biggest threat is Justine... if she manages to get rid of justine... I think the determination factor will finish the rest. I foresee the battle of a change and the numbers..

Maria has demonstrated an impressive progress with her grand slams. I made a mathematical equation which so far has worked greatly... and guessed her outcome last year perfectly, and so far this year goes perfectly as expected so far.

What I am afraid is that I haven't perfected my way to figure it out... I am afraid that tournaments before and after The Grand Slam are correlated to it.

Therefore, if this is true... considering that Maria had a very small increase in the previous tournaments would mean a SF or F.

But there is also another possible factor which was untagible on the past, how many times she has faced along with the W-F record. Remember that MAria has lost her opportunitties to be number one thanks only to the fact she lost to justine (and yeah Schnyder but ignore that). This may raise her wish to defeat her... but perhas it only proves that Justine is superior and far better ( which I think she is not).

the only threat I see is Justine, and I will abuse my freedom of speech to say that this will be the early final of Roland Garros.

you also realise that you agreed with my decision on JHH being a threat dont you?

AND...

Kuzzie might be on poor form, but poor forms dont last forever, she could walk into this tournie and play strongly, whos to say

I have an opinion, and i would appreciate it if you didnt try and interfear with them and come out with annoying comments like "do you come to this polace to socialize.. or actually learn some Tennis?"

You said no offence, but i take offence to that

The Henin draw is really annoying. Seeding the favourite for the title at No 10 is ridiculous! And of course Masha gets her in her quarter, while Momo gets another easy draw. Justine is one of the few people who is going to be incredibly hard for Maria to beat on clay.

I'm thinking that the best scenario would be for Sveta to take out Justine in the 4th round, since Sveta (when playing her best) has the power to hit right through Justine. Then Masha, assuming she has got there safely, has a chance to take out Sveta.

Justine? Oh my god... I think she will be able to win the champion...

I don't think Maria can go into SF if Justine is in good shape. But impossible is nothing, Maria may make it amazing. Come on and Good luck.

I don't agree, I think Justine have played poorly lately, while other players are playing bad... really bad. But what I am doing is opening myself to error, and to the fact that determination and her tennis level is not enough to beat her. but indeed, one of the best tennis players in the history of tennis which has not lost her momentum is still a threat, a living threat.

Josh, I never meant to offend you. But saying that Kuzzie is a threat to maria realy astonished me. If you remember well, lately Kuzzie has been losing around, no finals at all, and is playing just like Myskina, beating her here and there. Also to the fact that she is no clay player, and that her doom is at the red dirt.

I never meant to do so, and if I did, please accept my apologies.

yea, i thought when maria did some drop shots, she did them well, she just didn't use them enough. not enough variation.
Hopefully she also comes to the net a bit more.

go Maria, i watched her 2nd round match, struggled to get into game in first set

well she may have had a slow start but that was also because Rezai was just hitting everything as hard as she could, but I do hope she will be ready at the first point !!

This will be a tough test Anna will bring back a lot of balls and make Masha hit another shot. I think her game is very similar to Myskina's with a bit less power. Good luck Masha raise the bar again and keep on winning.

This will be a tough test

;)

Maria seems to be walking her 3rd round match, 6-1 4-2 at moment. It is sunny so the clay court is quicker today and more like a hardcourt. Hope the sun stays out for week 2.

the courts will be dry by todays resumption of the match
..and just because Maria struggled in the QF last year in damp conditions doesnt mean its a huge problem..Im sure she'll be wanting to improve how she goes in those conditions

She also struggled this year against Henin in court wetness. And wanting to improve is great, but losing matches to improve is not good.

Youre a hard man Edward ;)
Hitting hard and moving the opponent around is what Maria does best so why should she change? She just needs to be happy to hit a few extra shots and not go for the lines immediately in a rally...the number of quality drop shots shes playing has increased along with a few slices etc so she can still surprise

Andy.
May 30th, 2005, 03:31 AM
Maria really has to focus now and finish the job quick smart she cant let her back in to it. And im not happy with this wet clay business lets hope its dry by the time play starts

Hard luck Maria. The first set was played at a high intensity, with maria dropping her serve at a crucial time. but in the second set maria just unleashed error after error.
add to that justine was bloody outstanding.
oh well, at least she made the quarter final, and doesnt lose any ranking points.

It's annoying.

All Justine's "injuries" and problems with serve vanished today. Justine had over 60 UE against Sveta, over 50 the previous round. Just 17 against Maria! Everyone seems to play their perfect match against Masha.

i'm worried. Maria only retained her points from last year. But Lindsay made up quite a few, so now I'd like to know what Maria's prospects as world no.1 are?

Not good at all, Maria has points to defend at Birmingham and Wimledon, but the gap between Maria and the rest is huge so she just has to make sure to defend as many points as possible until the hardcourt season starts, that is her best change of getting to number 1 !!

yeah I noticed that too, in Berlin Henin played some horrible 3 set matches and against Maria she was playing perfect tennis, now it happened again in RG !! so not fair !! That is one of the reasons I'm glad the clay season is over lol

I watch that match now on the tape and can see that the score doesn't reflect the game well.
Actually, it was more close that one can think looking at the score.
Maria played really good match and greatly improved from the last year.
She had only 1 more UEs than winnners (22-21).
Henin was only a bit more precise at the right moments.
And every surface other than clay will work to Masha's advantage.

it would be more analyzing... so far it has worked... and if I am right this 6th time, she will be champion.

I guess you are wrong this time....

:(

never mind. I just watched some of the highlights of her match on the BBC website, and in the first set especially, her shotmaking was generally very good. Her serve volley tactic was working on some shots, and it just reminded me what i already should've known, that she is actually very good tennis player.;) She's not at all out of her depth out there, she lost to another top player who knows clay better than any other current top player.

What I do not like is her dejection when it starts going wrong. She seems very good at coming back from behind, but all too often this year, if she gets to a certain point, she appears to stop believing, and it's that point where you know she's lost the match. And when you are fighting for no.1, the top players are not going to throw you a lifeline back into the match. I really hate seeing her look as dispondant as she did yesterday, cos you know she's given up belief, and two of the shots she made, which were far from going in, showed a complete lack of creative thinking.

Henin is a great player, that's wat great players do. unfortunately for Maria.

But Maria is capable of this as well, just remember someof the matches she had at melbourne before dominating in the matches where it mattered, and oh so nearly beating serena. :)

I don't agree with that, she was still fighting at the end, when she saved the first match points she even said c'mon, sometimes you just can't come back just like you said, the top players don't let you get back most of the time, that doesn't mean that she wasn't trying. She already showed us this week (last week) that she fights no matter what, when she was down 3-1 in the final set against Linetskaya.

:) ah yes, I managed to forget that. :)

I didn't see the match, as I said, I only saw the lighlights off the BBC website, which only showed mainly the shots where she was looking dejected after the 1st set. Of course, I'm glad I'm wrong :)

But I really don't like seeing her face drop like she does when she's done a stupid shot or something. I think she definately can lose something.
