View Full Version : Why does Serena get all the Tier 1 tourneys

I've noticed that over the next couple of months Venus is playing
Amelia Island (tier 2), Hamburg(tier 2), then Rome. Serena on the other hand gets Charleston, German Open, and Rome all tier 1 tourneys. This means that Serena can gain much more points during this period than Venus. Do you guys think it's because Rena is farther back in the rankings? This does not seem like equal distribution to me. :(

Your thoughts please.

Rena was suppose to play Tokyo earlier this year too before she was hurt, another Tier I. I don't know why Serena play a lot of Tier I and Venus don't because Serena also plays in Cannada, while Venus plays 3 Tier II during the summer. I think that's the reason Ren can stay in the top 10 with 9 tournaments, she has a better schedule!

Moon it's always been like this--- it just happened that she rarely showed up ... meanwhile she is beginning to make me :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:

I think this is great, I mean it doesn't hurt that big sis won't be in the draw though it still goes guarantee serena the title. She still has to beat everyone else in the draw.

I can't wait till it gets to the point they enter the same tournaments all the time, then again at least this way more tournaments get to see a fabulous williams sister in action!

Well, it just seems to me that Rena is getting the big tourneys with more points, and Vee is getting the scraps. :(
I hope really hope this has to do with Rena being further behind in the rankings. Because if this continues after Serena is ranked ahead of Venus then I'm gonna be even more :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: than I am now. This just doesn't seem fare to me at all.

well, Venus gets more tournaments, Serena gets less. So, to make up for it, Serena gets to play the bigger tournaments. Yeah, that's the main reason I think.

It would be great to have Serena ranked ahead Venus :D :D!!!

Do you really think that Serena dictates which matches they play in? I assume it's a mutual agreement between the two. At the present stages in their life, I don't even think that Richard or Oracene have any say in which tournaments the will or won't compete.

I get the feeling that the two of them work together for the benefit of both. Certainly no reason for people who wish them well to get upset about.

Oh yeah, and it won't hurt baby sis' rankings either. And if she gets to get a taste of Number 1, good for her.

But imagine how POWERFUL these two are that they can pretty much determine when and how they will get the number one ranking.

Unfortunately, it won't be so easy to maintain next year unless they want to keep playing so many tournaments and defending so many points. I hope that their bodies are able to withstand it.

bmomomax, you're probably right. I would guess that it is something that they work on together (the scheduling). But it just looks to me like Venus is selling herself short.

And I'm not really that upset about it, but it is a little annoying. But still it's not so annoying that I'm gonna stop cheering for Rena or anything like that. If that was the case, I would have posted this in GM. I posted it in this forum because I knew that I could have a reasonable discussion here amongst the Williams fans without it turning into something bigger than what it is.

I will continue to cheer for Serena, unless she plays Vee or Monica.

btw--once they become #1 & #2 I hope it means that Vee will play more Tier 1 tourneys.

Moon, you are hilarious. :)

You may not have considered that VENUS does not play in regards to the points, but maybe the actual location themselves. She may just like going to certain cities for many reasons, shopping may be a prime reason. :p

Just let the players play and let the titles and points fall where they may.

I think since they don't like playing one another, and won't compete in the same events (most of the time), then they decide to balance it out. Venus gets to play the majority of the events, while Serena plays a few (Mostly Tier ones).

I think that they choose their schedule..

If Venus wants to play tier's II it'ss her choice, it's her opinion...

And if Serena wants to plays tier's I only, it's her choice too..

No one forces Venus to not play in the tier I with Serena, for me it's her opinion.. Seems that the one who doesn't want to the "sister vs sister" match to be played is Venus.. cause tier I is for all top 10 be in, and rarely this happens... only in Miami and Indian Wells, and in surprisingly on Rome now

And I think there's nothing bad in Serena being ranked ahead of Venus.. I don't know why such drama on this... Serena can't be better than Venus now?
