I think Serena and Sharapova ....but if had to choose one..it would be Sharapova...she plays more tournaments and she is 100% tennis...so I would go with

B.......final answer lol

Well im going to have to go with Davenport/Serena/Kim these three have played unbelievable tennis this year. I didnt want to included Serena but since shes the only person to have won a grand slam this year shes going to be the one to conitue to beat. I would have added Maria as well except I cant add someone that lost 0-6,0-6 to any player.

Serena will be the hardest to defeat in a slam, which are the only tournaments that really count despite what anyone claims..

If we're talking small time tournments then maybe Davenport and Clijsters..

I really don't think there is a 'woman to beat' this year. No one's really playing as well as they could apart from maybe Clijsters, and she's only played 3 tournaments so far. Apart from her, no one's dominating at all.

It's odd that right now, the girls who are doing the best in regular events are definitely NOT the ones with a recent track record of shining in Slams.

Honestly, even though she's not playing THAT well this year, Serena is the player to beat. I mean, who wouldn't want to beat the Grand Slam Champion?

Other than that, Kim Clijsters is the player to beat.

Its gotta be Kim- I mean, she's lost once in four tournaments she's played this year.

1. Kim
2. Serena- really only had one full loss this year
3. Justine
4. Maria- lost to Lindsay, Kim, Serena in three big tournaments this year.

umm...you forgot one. Especially if you're puting Lindsay & Maria on there.

How bout the one who took a set off Masha in only her 4th match back. Heck, "Awesome" Kimmy wasn't even able to take a set off Vee in her 3rd match back, and (no offence to WS fans) Masha > Vee at this time. That one has only lost 1 match too (same as option A), so I feel that one at least deserves to be included on your list. I vote A & E ;)

Kim and Lindsay. Both have had amazing years. Kim, because shes on a hot streak, Lindsay cos shes on a streak too, finalist or better in every tourney unless retired through illness or injury and shes world no1...so of course shes the one to beat.

Lindsay up until the finals

Serena is the woman to beat, she has been for years. Especially at slams.

I'd say Maria overall and Serena at the slams. Everyone knows Serena takes her game up a notch at the slams and she never quits. It's quite incredible to get a win over Rena at the slams. :)

In normal tournaments Davenport,Clijsters,Mauresmo HH, Sjarpova, Serena

In Slams Serena and HH maybe Sjarapova Clijsters will not win any slams because to win those you have to get passed Serena HH and Sjarapova

Serena, Lindsay, Justine, Kim and Maria. Count in Venus if she plays her best and Capriati if she comes back in time to get in-form before the american hardcourt season. No one's really dominating and it should be fun at tournaments of all kinds, Tier II to Grand Slams (that's where they play, right?).

The Williams will beat each other and probably the other tops a few times. The belgians will beat each other, all russians, Lindsay and even the Williams (I have faith!). Maria will beat all other russians and the Williams (I really don't think Serena's gonna beat her on a regular basis) and can beat Lindsay - I don't see her beating the belgians all that much, besides her win over Justine in Miami. Lindsay will beat everyone and lose in the finals or before to one of them, maybe scoring a big win over all of them at one point or another as she sure is capable of. Capriati is in the mix and so is Mauresmo, but with less chances.

It's just a prediction and all of a sudden everything could change, let's hope at least they all stay healthy for the rest of the season.

My vote is really A, B, C, D and E (how could you forget Justine!?).

When you think about it, Maria lost the last matches to all those three players. (0-0 to Lindsay) So as of right now it definitely is not her.

At least I think so. :p :p

u have to always consider and think serena. i mean going into the australian she was the bettin fav among most. her game can click at any time and no one has a change. right now its off and on. so you have to more so off and on say whether or not she is the 1. that is why i still think she is gonna go into the french and win it. no one has really played her since autralian. no one has seen how she is playin and if she is playin well. injury has come up on her. but when serena gets injured she tends to train extremly hard to get over/overcome the injury.

also you can tell that serena is very focused and right now concerned about the Slams. A lot of people haven't taken heed to her comment but serena said she really wanted the french. that would be 2 of each slam. by the way is there any one out there that has one all four slams twice? prob steffi...who knows. but i think serena i seriously gonna take FO by storm and get her 8th.

Serena was VERY fortunate to win the Aus Open, and she has been unimpressive since then. With the level she showed in Melbourne, she won't win any of the other majors this year. The other players on tour sense that she is vulnerable and beatable. I think she is a pretty long shot to win in Paris.

lol...and somehow her stellar 2004 form had the entire field shaking in their sneakers at the AO this year?

And somehow after winning the years only GS, she is somehow more vulnerable to the tour?

I like your logic. :yeah:

Davenport's consistently shaky play at the Grand Slams is well known by everyone on the tour. She has the #1 ranking but she doesnt have the aura to go with it.

But the question isn't "Whos the player to beat at Slams?" And only few people can beat Lindsay, at slams or otherwise, so I dont understand. You think journeywoman A is looking forward to a match at a Slam against Lindsay simply because shes had bad losses to Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova?

I find it interesting that of the Big Five (in no order: Rena, Masha, Kim, Lindsay, & JuJu), that JuJu's name appears least on this thread than any of the others. I can't understand what makes her not the one to beat? Maybe I'll never figure it out. Oh well, to me JuJu s still "the Woman to beat in 2005".

I don't get it either. I'm particularly puzzled as to why everyone seems to be placing Kim above Serena as well as above Justine. Last time I checked, Serena won the only Slam this season, Justine has beaten Kim in three Slam finals, so why does the fact that Kim won a couple of tournaments in a row make her the one to beat over those two?
