Capriati and Venus each have 200+ points there that they will not defend, which means that Zvonareva should move to #9 and Petrova will climb from #12 to #10. Will this be the first time that there were so many Russians in the top 10?

Yes but none of the Russians are real slam prospects apart from Sharapova.

wow didn't realize that..with all the injuries, womens tennis is becoming a race to see who can stay healthy the longest, you can see though that the russians arent playing as good as last year (esp the russian that matters most ;) hint: she is in the six spot on this list)

they should enjoy it while it lasts. Only Dementieva and Sharapova will stay.

Even though a further two have ALREADY won Slams - who cares about being a Slam prospect when you've been there and done that? - and yet another has been in more Slam finals over the past year than anyone except Serena Williams? :retard:

You're kidding right??? Thats the best argument you can put up? Who cares about winning slams when you allready have one and then putting a retarded smnilie at the end even tho you are the idiot? I 'll tell you who cares about being a slam prospect... every player on the fucking tour. If you are a tennis player you want to win as many as you can not just say" ohh well I won one so now I can suck for the rest of my life"

Why does everyone overlook Kuznetsova? She obviously has the game to win the titles.

U.S Open Champ, 7 Singles finals last season? Numerous GS Doubles finals in her career.

Australian Open Dubs Champ 2005 - QF Aus Open Singles.

I was hoping for a better start to 2005 for her! :)

even if it does it will certainly feel kind of hollow considering how poorly myskina, zvonareva and to lesser petrova and even a lesser extent kuznetsova are playing compared to their ability.

it will be nice but i'm sure they would prefer to be posting much better results.

i mean vera must have started awfully last year to be moving up in the rankings considering she is like 40 in the race and being dumped by 17 year olds on her favourite surface.

It's difficult to win a major. Yet 3 different Russians are current slam holders.
But I also expect at least 14 Russians seeded at the majors by 2006.
And more good young ones coming in the next few years.

There seems to be a new Phobia going around-Russophobia, the condition is also known as being Kovaphobic, it can be successfully treated by intermingling pics of Russian top tenners with the usual line up of Davenport,Williams V and S and Capriati pics on walls and on screen savers, this is to be done slowly and gently, starting with thumbnail size and increasing gradually. If symptoms such as a bitter taste in the mouth,or tingling in the groin area develop, consult Your licensed Medical Practitioner immediately :)
