Well, I'd say it's boring. But I also should say that I don't care as it won't last long, at least not in the top tournaments. Kim and Justine are in their way back to the top and I'm sure Molik and Venus can join the TOP10 permanently. And there's Capriati when she comes back (if she does) and up-and-comers such as Ivanovic, Vaidisova, Golovin and veterans such as Schnyder. I think they're trouble for Myskina, Dementieva, Kuznetsova, Zvonareva, Petrova and Bovina. Not really to Sharapova though.

There's not been so many Russians in Berlin since the wall came down! ;)

Anyway, if they play exciting tennis - what better?

It will be extremely boring for ME as I dt really like them .
Myskina is ok but the others I cdnot care less (even if I dt hate them either )...

I hope Conchi and Mary can walk through the draw upsetting one or two of the Russians

Last year no Russian got past the quarters.
And all the top Russians were there.
It's just a prep, for a much bigger event.

1) Sharapova
2) Dementieva
3) Myskina
4) Kuznetsova
5) Zvonareva
6) Petrova
7) Schnyder
8) Bovina

hmmm....dont really care. the novelty has already worn off. and lets face it, petrova, bovina, zvonareva, myskina, dementieva and kuznetsova wont win the title. here's why

2) Dementieva - its a tier 1
3) Myskina - poor form
4) Kuznetsova - poor form
5) Zvonareva - please. head case and poor form (dammit!i want her to win!)
6) Petrova - title?i doubt it
8) Bovina - too many top players in the field.

i would be cool if 4 managed to make it to the semis. (not cool for me, but cool for women's tennis) because that way, we'll know that they're actually still around and not just eye-candy.

Winning the final in Berlin wouldn't be as big as beating Capriati in the US Open semis.
Or Suarez in the FO semis.

Lena earned over 800 points and about $500,000 at each of those majors.
Nothing that big happening at this tournament.

i never said no, but she still fell short didn't she. and it sucks because she has what it takes to take it up a notch.

Apr 28th, 2005, 05:14 PM
If Kim and Justine are playing top-form on clay, which apparently they are (or close to), no russian will win, I bet. If Mauresmo indeed plays, there goes any chance. If Clijsters beat Sharapova in Miami in straights and Justine even took a set from her in her 4th match back, I really doubt they're losing to Maria now on clay.

Dementieva is a threat, but she hasn't proved that she can win a Tier I event, has she? Though we all know she can. Myskina and Zvonareva aren't playing their best and Kuznetsova is a mystery. Petrova and Bovina will probably fall to other russians before getting too far.

Goldenlox, are you ys or Serena? You know, it's not only the slams that matter. Davenport and Mauresmo got to #1 without winning one last year and titles (of any level) do count for one's career and help to built their confidence and game for the bigger ones.

goldenlox
Apr 28th, 2005, 05:17 PM
I never said only the slams matter.
But they matter much more to the top players, than a Tier I does.
I'd rather a top 10 player skip this tournament, if they have any physical problem, and be healthy for RG.

Who cares? Take a look at the last few tournies and you´ll see that despite of being top seeded, it doesn´t get you anywhere.

I would even bet on it that there will be no russian in this year´s final. If it happens, fine with, if not, fine with me...

I just hope the Russians dont just fizzle out early on like they've been doing for a while now.:o The Belgians shouldn't have a problem knocking out top seeds, and players like Pierce, Martinez, Golovin etc can also take some of those girls out.

It doesn't matter to me at all. Actually it's kind of comical really.

More Russians for the Belgians to play roulette with. Lets spin the draw wheel and see which ones get picked off first

Hopefully the Belgians will be on opposite wheels, so that they both can continue to do the blasting till the end (final) ;)

Yea Kim doesnt have a slam ... but shes better than all the russians. I have a feeling Kim will win a major this year (at leats I hope so).
kim has nothing on maria. maria immortalized herself at wimbledon and all kim has is a bunch of petty titles. if anyone does remember her it will be for her inability to win a slam and sharapova will be forever remembered for her ability to win a slam-- and young!

granted, kim has every chance to change that and win a slam (has the game, has the fight, has the head), but to say she's better than maria-- how? she beat her once this year in windy conditions in a tight miami match. sharapova had played so much more tennis this season and will go into berlin rested finally.

Not to pick on Maria who's a great fave of mine, but you're being unfair to Kim. She may not have a slam title yet, but she's made to 4 GS finals and it's been on top for a longer time than Maria, has 2 YEC titles, was #1 of the world and has won all the meetings against Sharapova. You may say that the first two meetings happened against an in-form Clijsters against a not-ready-yet Sharapova. That's fine, but Sharapova was the hottest player in Miami (after Kim) and those conditions were bad to both of them, not only to Maria.

And many people have forgotten about slam winners, so I won't garantee immortality to Maria already. I'm sure she will eventually win more GS titles so... whatever.
