Woehoe, Ana played a very good first set, then made a bit too many errors in beginning of second but VEra did start to play a bit better. Ana played very well again in the end!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p :worship:

PS Vera wore a skirt untill the first half of the second set and all of a sudden she was wearing pants!!!!! It did not help much I guess...

Expected. Vera is decent player when she's on but she will never be an elite player. Ana on the other hand is living up to the expectations and will most likely reach the top 20 this year. Maybe even top 15. In my opinion, her game is more attractive than Golovin.

Ana was dominating Vera with power and shotmaking in the 1st set.

At the start of the second vera got more aggressive, moving Ana about and hitting some big forehands. Ana also made a lot of errors.
But Ana managed to turn it round when she started making her shots again, and Vera started getting irritated with calls, the court surface, balls, etc.

There was a turning point where vera was leading 30-0 and then Ana discussed the call and from then it was vera going down under i think..

Ana was having her way in first set but after Vera started crying and hitting her racquets and changing here clothes  , Ana kind of let go a little only to turn the power on and give a dagger at the end. I am happy I could see it live :bounce: . Commentators were really impressed with Ana , at least that's what I think they were shouting her name  .

First time that I see Vera but she has to work her serve and some mental toughness. I am not sure if this is typical of her but she was really exposed today.

Great win Ana!!! #34 in the rankings now and getting closer and closer to a seeding at RG!!!! Unless Marta pulls off an upset, I would expect her to play Dechy next. That could be a tough match as well. Although I didn't think that Nat's Fed Cup results on clay were that great, so hopefully Ana will take that one as well. Juju is going to be the toughest test for Ana, but Justine still has to get by Maria V-K and probably Patty..... Win the whole thing ANA!!!!

For the first time I see her win on TV. It's great :D

Fantastic first set, but then she really started to get on my nerves in the second by making braindead errors. Thankfully, it didn't last long and she got herself together again.
Very well done, Ana and keep it up.

Congratulations to Ana :yeah:

She played with a lot of power, and Bepa just didn't want to respond with power of her own until the start of the 2nd set. When she did, the winners started flowing. Then she started hitting herself and getting worked up, and her game went south again . Bepa was really off for stretches of play, and hit some extremely poor unforced errors. Two easy BH slices into the bottom of the net in the final game?

Bepa needs some time away from tennis. You can see from her body language that she is not enjoying herself, and her whole attitude is messed up :crying2:. I think that her intensive schedule at the end of last year forced her into a downward spiral, and she is slumping pretty badly as a result.

This is not her normal level of play, and :( to the people who think that she is no better than this. Leading up to the US Open last year she played some excellent tennis, then she had a meltdown against Lena D. at the US Open, and has pretty much struggled since then.

Nevertheless, she will be back

Euh ?

What is to there to watch in a match against Justine ?

There is an enormous difference between top players and the rest.

Most opponents of Justine and Kim don't even think that they will win a set against them.

The chances of Ivanovic of winning this tournament - let's put it mildly - are not that big.

But still, it's a marvelous win against a good player (?).

Vera is and elite player when she's on. The result was expected because Bepa's in another one of her slumps, not because she's the lesser player :p

Not so much sad over the loss..but very sad that Vera learned nothing from her meltdown in Charleston and its clear that her Coach has not been able to get thru to her.

Maybe she just needs to go home, take a break and come back at RG

Well done to Ana!!! She is just fantastic!

"I just tried to play my game, to attack her and get a little bit into court and get her on the move, and I think I did that pretty well," said Ivanovic, who added she was surprised at her rapid progress. "It's taken a lot of work. I've practised very hard the last few months, and I'm pretty happy to see the results so fast. Now I'm going to practise even harder to continue to improve my game."

Not really unexpected. Vera needs to pull her game together if she wishes to continue being in the Top 10 (which, actually, she might fall out of by next week).

Good win by Ana, a very good Young player, I feel like going into a spiel how Bepa is not playing Her best now ,but She lost, I've got to accept it!,not downgrade the Player Who whacked Her ass!

Well done ana. Well played in 1st set. It's shocking Zvonareva is in the top ten really.

I completely agree with you! I cannot believe Zvonareva is in top 10!!!! She is certainly top 30, but top 10 is just way wrong, I've never seen a player ranked so high cry after simply losing points in a match...that is just the mentality of a teenager or a top 100 player, not a top 10 player who should be able to cope with those emotions and finally play the way top 10 is supposed to play...

Vera is a very good player, and every player deserves the position he/she is on cause she fought hard for it. Ana is my no.1 fave player, but Vera IS a top 10 and she can be even better, she'll find her rythm soon, and then for RG, we'll have Williams, Belgians, Russians... and Jankovic and Ivanovic :) for the best field recently :)

Vera's game actually looked quite good in the second set until she got a little rattled and missed some key shots. Her position in the top 10 is perfectly understandable watching her and then looking at who is behind her in the rankings. Kim and Justine will probably pass her but who else apart from Patty or some of the rising stars like Ana or Tatiana looks any better?

Vera isn't alone either - her rut seems to have consumed other players too. Myskina faces a field of Russians she should beat in Berlin but is she out of her hole enough to beat them? Was fed Cup being so late part of the problem there too? Schiavone fell into the Fed Cup problem after doing OK against Russia by losing 180 points in Warsaw to someone she dominates in the recent H2H who avoided playing for italy last week. Her reward is moving down to number 26 in the rankings the week after taking the number 5 close. After Nastya, Sveta, Vera and now Francesca's recent expereience its no wonder top players like Momo and the belgians are taking Fed Cup off their schedules. Then we have Karolina, Venus.....and all the other off players and the ones who left their best play in Australia.

Vera is pretty odd but unique she isn't.

Vera wore a skirt untill the first half of the second set and all of a sudden she was wearing pants!!!!!

I presume that by "pants" you mean long trousers. In UK English, "pants" means underpants! ;)
