The clay season is just starting but Maria's hardcourt schedule for August is out. Maria will play for 3 straight weeks beginning on 1st August at the tier 1 event in San Diego, then hop over to Los Angeles the following week and then play in Toronto. Maria will have a 1 week break and then she will play the 4th and final Grand Slam of the year at the US Open beginning on August 29th. Last year Maria played San Diego and Montreal and reached the quarters and third round respectively and lost in the 2nd round in New Haven which Maria is skipping. Maria reached the 3rd round at the US Open. Maria has in total 228 points to defend in this period.

Its a shame Maria isnt playing Birmingham...and she'll go into Wimbledon having not played a single match on grass since last years final...not an ideal preparation :(

Good to see another 4 week break after Wimbledon as she did last year :)

Im sure Maria will prepare for Wimbledon in the best way she can but for us it'll be bad because we'll see Maria on her favourite surface for only 1 tournament :sobbing: :)

I was hoping soooo much to see her at eastbourne

She needs to find her feet on grass, I'm amazed considering how she's sometimes found it hard to adapt to a new surface, and only found her groove in say the 3rd match, that she's going straight into wimby:eek::sad:

I would not be all that surprised if she has an incredibly dissapointing wimbledon

Sorry to sound depressing, but as things stand at the moment, I don't think she's gonna manage to defend her title. But Maria can always surprise us, so, by saying that, I'm not being 100% depressing :)

you only think that because she plays 1 grass tournament ?? that is crazy !! Serena didn't play last year on grass, just wimbledon and got to the final !! since this is Maria's fav surface I think she will do very well !! C'MON Maria !!

I like her schedule it gives her good breaks so she can rest and prepare to the full she doesnt need match practice on grass she is quite good at playing well after breaks she plays herself into tournament.

Hopefully it is crazy.

I think she has a great game for grass, but coming onto the surface, I always think it's good to get a bit of experience just so your first match will not catch you out. at somewhere like birmingham, she is unlikely to exit in round 1 because the opposition will generally be lower standard. But at wimbledon, I find this a bit of a gamble. Plus I'm selfish; I want her to play at eastborne;)

But I obviously hope it turns out to be a success ;), just not the way I would have don it I'm afraid
