Exactly!!!!!!!!!!! 2004 was a bad season, because the Russians were dominating and they only managed to win because of the absence of Kim, Justine and the rather poor form of Serena and Venus...now that the sisters (especially Serena) and Kim and Justine are playing better than last year the Russians will stand no chance. I only bet my money on Sharapova...the rest just comes short to the Americans and the Belgians...so I hope the Russian domination thing will be over soon and let the good times begin again with some hardcore battles between Lindsay, Serena, Venus, Kim, Justine and Maria because they are the true stars. Though, it would be even better if Elena, Nastya and Svetlana would compete as well so there would be a huge USA vs Belgium vs Russia thing going on
BTW I am much more interested in Clijsters' so called boring life than Serena's off court fashion activities...

Maria  played so well ag. Iveta yesterday and now this :(

The problem is that there is an enormous difference between real top players and the rest.

Kim has so much game that almost no player can threaten her.

If you look at her last 150 matches you will see that she has lost only a few matches to players not named Justine, Venus or Serena.

Before they got injured Kim and Justine had more than 7.000 WTA points.

Number 3 and 4 less than 4.000. That's a big difference. Kim and Justine didn't lose to players not named Kim or Justine.

I am a bit surprised that they only needed a few matches to begin their domination. That's incredible.

jochem
Apr 27th, 2005, 02:15 PM
PS I believe the Russian domination is already over... Elena lost to Kim twice and to Justine once this year, Nastya lost to Kim and she also lost to Venus. Maria lost to Serena, Lindsay and Kim. Svetlana, well what did she actually do this year?!

It's great that after a tough first round match she wins this so easily. And I really don't mind if there's an all-belgian (why people keep saying Belgium?) in every tournament, as long as the winner in 90% of them is Justine.

Keep it up til the finals, Kim!

And the truth shell set you free

Last season and the start of this season, I was getting so annoyed constantly hearing about how strong and dominant the top Russians are, and how great *cough* Lindsay is. I guess we'll just see how strong the *cough* top WTA players will be now ;)

Just to piggy-back on this statment:
Kim has only lost to another player not mentioned above 5 times:eek: (with 2 of those losses being retires ;)) since sometime in 2002. She won the 2002 YIC so her last loss of that year was definitely before the end of the season.
:worship:

P.S. I'm sort of peed off that I just spent an hour looking for her comlete 2002 results and was unsuccessful :(
Anyway check it out :)

Owned... what else can I say?

It's nice to see the Belgians doing well again. I do wish though, that the success of the Belgians wouldn't always result in people then hacking out on anyone who has played well in their absence. I mean, you have to be a very good player to win a grandslam, regardless of how many people are injured.

A lot of those criticising the successful players of last year happen to also have favourites who still didn't do that great in slams last year. Going on the logic that the Russians and Lindsay are pretenders, what does that say about those favourites?

I won't say anymore on that matter. Good win Kim. Keep it up, I want you to win this tournament.
