just a couple of days to go before the real action in the NBA starts, so i think right now is a great time to discuss about the NBA. :) here are some of my fearless prediction for the playoffs:

MVP - Shaq
Rookie of the Year - Ben Gordon
Coach of the Year - Scott Skiles
Nets or Cavs for 8th spot? - Nets
most likely to make an upset - Denver to beat number 2 Spurs
underrated player most likely to shine in the playoffs - Prince (Pistons)
NBA Champ - Heat, if Shaq stays healthy

The Head is good, but I don't think they'll be the champs this year. They have trouble with Detroit, Indiana, and Phoenix. I think San Antonio gave them a couple of whoopings this year also. I say Detroit and Phoenix are the strongest contenders.

Go Miami!
Pheonix, can be dealt with once both teams make it to the finals.
Miami just beat Indiana, and maybe someone else can take out Detroit before they make it to Miami :)
If not, then it's on!
I think Shaq wants a championship this year, more than anything. :D

I think the finals gonne be miami-detroit in the east and san antonio-phoenix in the west, and the winner of the west gonne be nba champion to.

im also curieus what the sixers gonne do , there playing much bether the last weeks , and with iverson-webber they can do a big upset during the play-offs.

But mvp i think Steve Nash or Kevin garnett. I realy hope it gonne be Nash.

I wonder what Dallas gonne do, they have a strong team to, and Nowitzki rules !!

normally i dismiss anything Chad Ford (ESPN) writes but this was amusing ...

LOS ANGELES LAKERS

Kobe Bryant, the player, put up a pretty amazing stat line this year. Kobe, the teammate, found a way to alienate almost every player on the Lakers' roster. Kobe, the coach, helped push Rudy Tomjanovich into retirement. Kobe, the GM, traded away the most dominant big man in the game for a bunch of lottery balls. As the Clippers continue to rise in the West and the Lakers sink, were we really that off this past summer when we told Kobe he should choose the Clips?

next year, michael Redd will join the team, so next year is definetly gonna be a good year for the cavs, unless they loss Big Z to free agency

Michael Redd would be a great addition to the team. Plus he is an Ohio native which is always great to have. But Z needs to stay for us to dominate in the paint. He wants to stay in Cleveland but a lot of people don't think it will happen. I am keeping my fingers crossed that's for sure.

well, being a relatively new NBA fan I don't really have a favourite team, but I like the teams that are very offensive, so I can't really root for Detroit or San Antonio.

I guess I would go for Phoenix or Dallas, some people will say I am talking rubbish but I think Dallas has a really good shot, they have a lot of depth and considering that:

San Antonio: Tim Dundan has been injured.
Miami: too dependant on Shaq and he has also been injured
Sacramento: weakened, no Webber, no Miller, injuries
Phoenix: too dependant on Nash
Houston: only Mc Grady and Yao.

Plus Dalla's owner Mark Cuban is fighting the recording industry and whoever does that has move vote.

Philly lacks the guns to play the Pistons. Detroit's philosophy, Iverson can get his, stop everyone else ... very sound strategy.

Houston vrs. Dallas ... is easily the most intriguing first round series. #3 defense vrs #3 offense. regular season (2-2) indicates, Houston can't defend Nowitzki, Dallas can't defend TMac. rookie coach vrs NBA veteran coach, both teams headed into post season with protracted win streaks. the proceedings are eminently viewable.

i'm not a betting ico ... but put a gun to my head and i'd chose Boston over injured Oneal and rusty Artest. i don't bet 'cause i'm always wrong.

Houston did well in Dallas, they've played subpar at home though & Dallas are proven road warriors. my pick is Houston. but please remember the aforementioned disclaimer! ... don't bet 'cause ...

"All I can say is, please keep chanting his name,'' Pacers center Scot Pollard said. "Make him angry. Please Boston fans, make Reggie Miller angry.''

that kinda chat bothers me. If yah really believe Reggie is better 'gainst a hostile crowd ... why would yah tell 'em?

Go Suns Go Suns Go Suns Go Suns Go Suns

I'm crazy about Quentin Richardson and I know the Suns are rearing to go. They have such a strong team. They are not too dependent on ANY player, because most of their games have different people as the top scorer. Any one player can step up at one time. I love Q-Rich...he's Brandy's future husband and I love seeing her at the Suns games getting all wild!!! It's amazing how they have turned it around this season.

Yeah, my Mavs have struggled for 5 games now against a Rockets team that surprised the shit out of me, I figured they played over their heads in games 1 and 2. But after seeing 3, 4 and 5, I'm a believer. No doubt, ref calls in this game (5), especially at the end crippled the Rockets...

...my Mavs squeak by with another one. If and/or when we get by Houston, we're in certain trouble against San Antonio. The lone twin tower Duncan is arguably the best big man in the NBA.

Can you believe the ZenMaster is even entertaining the notion of joining the Lakers... the man would have to be insane to take that job again after the way they treated him. Hey, different strokes for different folks I guess.

There is no doubt that Duncan is boring, but slow gets the job done and that's what counts.

doh! sorry bout the Jersey humor, it's hard to take a swing at the Nets and not hit Jersey too. Thanks for not shooting me with a red dot, this time  I think I'm still in shock when I had a layover in Newark, what a nightmare, and the people... oh so friendly

Agreed, AI is portrayed in a bad light by the media and I'm sure I've bought into some of that given the interviews and quotes he's made over the years... he just doesn't make it easy to like him. But I will give credit where credit is due, he is a top 10 player in the league, maybe top 5. If Ray Allen continues his magic, look out AI, you may get bumped back to the top 10 list.

Kidd would be a great addition to any team, a top point guard. I'm still having issues with the whole Maverick debacle with Kidd, Mashburn and Jackson... good riddance to them all. All three wanted a bigger role and recognition because of their high draft positions but Kidd seems to be the only one fullfilling expectations. Again, Kidd isn't my favorite person but he can point for damn near any team and be successful. While I'm at it, kudos to Steve Nash. I think my Mavs letting Nash go to the Suns will eventually come back to haunt us... we'll see.

Shaq... heh, well the man got his wish and I'm thinking he's not sorry for the move east. Dominance reigns in Miami and they're lovin him now. Zo looks like he's having fun again... expect Zo to marry Shaq if they go deep into the playoffs, I fear for Shaq when I look at the gleam in Zo's eyes.

1. Trust me I'm used to Joisey humor (I just like to stick up for my stretch of the Garden State  ).

2. Kidd is the real deal, I'm a fan of his game and I would love to see him playing with a team full of entertaining "finishers" (dunkers, 3 point specialists, etc. all feeding off of Kidd's game)

3. You would have thought that Kobe Bean would have learned from the Mavs "Big 3"; they were a good team together and they let egos and hype break them apart and only Kidd ever really recovered from the Break Up. Meanwhile the Mavs kinda wasted 3 lottery picks.

4. As you can see in the quote above you gave me the huge laugh of the morning with your scarily true Zo loves Shaq comment. :haha: :haha: :haha: I am enjoying watching Zo do his thing (although I keep waiting for the media to break out Shaq's rap song he made dissing Zo and Christian Laettner -sp- because he was the first pick ;) )

5. People keep asking me about the Van Gundy situation (cuz I'm a lawyer :tape: ) While I support Van Gundy, he did go one step too far in saying he's got a "deep throat ref" who let him know about "the great Ming conspiracy", because that leans toward saying games are being fixed (which many fans believe anyway -not the final outcome, but refs are encouraged to make it go 6 or 7 games if they can get away with it).

6. Stern's reaction was very very harsh!!! But the whole league can be destroyed by comments like Van Gundy's; can you say "congressional investigation". He should stick to hugging Zo's leg, one of the classic moments in NBA history

Okay, time to get ready for work...:bolt:

I think AI deserved the MVP this season because not only did he have a career year in assists, but without him Philly doesn't make the playoffs. Shaq and Nash are good players, but they have wayyyyyyyy more to work with than AI has. AI has a streaky shooter(Korver), a soild rookie(AI2), a decent big man (Dalembert), and a guy on one leg (Webber). Shaq has D-Wade, and Nash has Richardson, STAT, Joe Johnson, and the Matrix.

Mc Grady is a great player, but he is a jerk.

I couldn't watch the game but I read that Yao fouled one Dallas's player and went to help him, but McGrady pull his jersey to prevent him from doing so.

I've seen many people criticizing Kobe for being selfish, when really I see that Kobe passes the ball a lot, it's not his fault that his team mates can't do anything with it.

Mc Grady on the other hand wants to do everything, he wants to be the star, sure he is good but if he was a little more team oriented maybe he would be in the second round of the playoffs for a change.

Just because of his attitude I am happy Dallas won (and I predicted Dallas to do well, I love being proved right).

Egads, here we go again. No answer for Stoudemire... We couldn't hit water if we fell out of a boat! I sure hope this turns into a good series, but that will require the Mavs to get a plan, and now dammit, now!

Nice job by the Suns, excellent game, they were hot.

Detroit looked very smooth on the eastern side... Pistons vs Spurs? Too early to say, but it's likely.

Mavs pull it together and squeaked back home with a win to tie the series at 1-1. Defensively the Mavs stepped up and limited Stoudemire to 30 points and 15 rebounds... haha... if you can call that "limiting". He's such a dominant force out there, no one on the Mavs can keep up. Finley played an great game contributing 31 points: Nowitzki had 23 points and 12 rebounds, and the winning shot with 6.8 seconds to go. Dampier responded to Dirk's criticism after game one with 15 points and 12 boards... not bad for the self described "second best center in the NBA".

In the East, the Pistons looked lethargic while Reggie Miller found his shooting range. But I can't see Indiana taking 4 of 7 from Detroit, the Pistons are just too strong.

I love the playoffs!

Anyone who thought the Pacers would roll over and die against the Pistons are fools. Detroit really didnt' want to face them because they knew that they could give them the challenge that Boston would not have given. Detroit may still end up winning the series, but if the Pacers win both games at home (I am assuming the playoff schedule is 2 @ Detorit (2@Detorit), 2 @ Indiana (2@Indiana), 1 @ Detroit (1@Detroit), 1 @ Indiana (1@Indiana) and 1 @ Detroit (1@Detroit)), the Pistons are in trouble.

I knew the pacers won't roll over for anyone, but I am surprised that the Pistons came out so flat after the start that they had. I still like the Pistons to win the series though. Yes, they changed the playoff format from 2, 3, 2, to 2, 2, 1, 1, 1... last year? I don't recall, but it's a pretty recent change. haha... Someone call Spike Lee and tell him that Reggie sends his love from three point land.

Speaking of Dominique, I surely miss the rivalries of the past. There was nothing better than sitting down to eat and watching Detroit and the Knicks go at it for a solid 48 minutes, and then some. There were more elbows than assholes in those kinds of series... ahhh, I'm feeling all nostalgic now.

Ouch, Mavs took another one on the chin with Nash running the pick and roll at will with Stoudemire, and anyone else who wanted to join in. I say Dallas should pay more attention to Nash, everything runs off of him, stop Nash and the offensive juggernaut of the Suns is beatable... on paper anyway.

I didn't know Dirk, don't call me NoWitzki, was 3rd in MVP balloting, that's a shocker! With his shooting percentages in the 3 games with the Suns, he'd be lucky to be a backup player in Lithuania playing with prison rules in the paint! I knew letting Nash go would come back to haunt the Mavs, but I gotta stay true to them, even if they can't shoot better than 39% at home!

The Bad Boy Pistons made me like Chicago.

They beat up Jordan soooooooooo much and Jordan kept on attacking the basket anyway.

That's when I realized Jordan was something special (and not just a little better than Dominique who I thought was a close #2 to Jordan when both were in thier "pre-championship" prime - once Jordan started adding rings, he left Nique in the dust).

As the commentators said..pick your poison. They try to take away Stoudemire and so Nash just drains all the short jumpers they give him. If you don't take away Stoudemire though Nash just feeds him the ball and he gets going.

It's gonna be interesting to see how the Mavs adjust again in Game 6.

“They just absolutely shredded our defense,” he grumbled. “You can’t let a guy run all over the court and get wide open shots.”

The “guy” he was talking about, of course, was Nash. And when somebody brought up Steve’s name in the interview room, he all but threw up his hands. “We’ve thrown everything humanly possible at him”, he said, “and nothing’s worked. We just have no answer for him.”

I don't know who said that the key to play the Bulls in the Jordan era was to let Jordan score his points and take away the rest of the team.

The problem is that it's easier said than done, it's very difficult to shut down a point guard line Nash, if he can't pass the ball he can score 48 points, and that alone can win the game for the Suns, it was because Dallas ofense was on fire that they won game 4, not because the Suns really failed ofensively.

and if he can't score he passed the ball, and then you have guys like Stoudemire, Marion, Richardson.
A center or a forward are easier to take away, you can do it physically, but a point guard moves around, and if you have to follow him around, his teammates can find open shots, and Nash is quick to pass the ball.

I guess the Mavs best hope is that the Suns are tired.

Ahh the always desirable 'divine intervention' strategy ;) :p

Well the Mavs already have a big advantage in that back up point guard Joe Johnson is out with an injury. For a team like the Suns who have no depth that is a huge loss. Nash now has to play a ton of minutes and doesn't get much rest. Although coach D'Antoni tried Jimmy Jackson at the point guard position last night in the 4th quarter and it worked wonders. They'll have to hope Jackson can keep up the good play.

i don't entirely disagree with your take but the Suns were clearly bothered by the Mav's D in game 4. Nash had more turnovers than assists, 3ball % was way down and their points inside the paint ('cept Nash) was abysmal. the mavs played the passing lanes on Nash penetration, created turnovers and won.

your right, i take it back..i just dont like avery johnson

I can't stand him either. It's something about his voice. It just grates on my nerves.

About Reggie--I wasn't the biggest fan either. But the show of love from the fans and the players was very moving to me. There are very few genuine moments on TV these days, and this one was very poignant. You could tell it meant a lot to Reggie, and that Reggie means a lot to the fans of Indiana.

it was a classic moment, i like what Larry Brown and the rest of the pistons did, eventhough they were in a fight early in the season, they still showed their respect to reggie.

Reggie used to be my fave, my cousins always say that i play like him back then, but Reggie started flopping, whinning and it just sickens me, i started hating him since then, and my game isnt reggie anymore, its more like Shawn kemp right now, the fat, slow lazy shawn kemp!

Holy crap I can't believe the Suns pulled that game out! :o

Nash with the 3 pointer with 5 seconds left to send the game to overtime :worship:

It was funny listening to Bill Walton get on Nash for most of the game for not doing enough and he ends the game with 39 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds lol :p

Is it time for Mark Cuban to start kicking himself yet? :tape:

Plus part of the 4th quarter and all of overtime without Stoudemire!

Great game, Suns are very deserving of that top seed, Dallas just didn't have enough in the end. Good luck Phoenix against the Spurs!

I guess this kind of settles the discussion about the MVP.

While Miami showed it's not only Shaq, they were able to sweep New Jersey with half Shaq and Washington with no Shaq in two games.

Nash has been unbelievable this series, maybe he was especially motivated for playing Dallas but 125 points in 3 games, nearly two straight triple doubles.

Some of the shots he made towards the end, and some of the passes were

in fact, the Suns were misfiring otherwise it wouldn't have gone to overtime. If shooting terribly they can still score 111 points in regulation, I don't want to imagine what they can do when the shots are sinking in.

I think if Nash keeps this level, Stoudemire and Richardson pick it up to their levels, Marion continues playing well and Joe Johnson comes back, they will be nearly unstoppable.

It will be interesting to see the best offense in the NBA against one of the best defenses (the Spurs) and possibly the other one (Detroit).

I hope the Suns win because they are a lot more fun to watch.

Very true, Nash couldn't miss and was, is, and has been amazing throughout the series. Stoudemire has been off somewhat but with the entire Suns team in "the zone", I agree, they'll be very hard to beat.

Looking forward to the Detroit/Miami series, that should be a good series. I like the Suns over the Spurs if their play keeps up. Spurs are a lot more defensive than Dallas... but it should prove to be a good series regardless.

Nash just prove to evryone why he is the MVP..most importantly, he just made Cuban look like a damn fool for not offering him big money and using the money for getting the "self-proclaimed best center in the west" Dampier. this is why i dont like the Mavs, every year they just keep on shuffling their rosters, getting stars and waisting their talent by using them as a 6th man...

quote of the day:``They have to be crazy to let that boy go,'' forward Quentin Richardson said. ``Thank you, Dallas! I'm glad to be on his team.''

I think the Heat will have a better chance at beating the Spurs, than Pheonix in the finals. So as much as I hate to say it.....GO SPURS!!!

(Hopefully Miami can do their part and beat the Pistons )
