I was just reading in a local paper today how leaders in a Russian town are close to re-erecting statues of Josef Stalin and renaming streets after him.

But the truth is, and the despite the reasons that are given, I just for the life of me cannot understand how a country can be enamored with an supposed known murderer.

Now maybe I am wrong about this. Perhaps I am just reading a "western" point of view about Stalin.

It just makes me shudder why this is happening.

Just last year I remember watching a documentary where a researcher had given stats that at least 1 in every 7-10 Russians today had suffered some family loss under the rule of Stalin.

If that figure is even close to the truth, that is friggen staggering.

So please someone help me understand this. Cause as an American looking in, I tell you I just cannot comprehend his sudden renewed awakening.
