It's good for her to have won a Tier 1, but she none of her wins here really impressed me. She struggled in nearly every match, and she didn't beat any of the top players (other than Lindsay, who retired).

I am interested to see the final two Tier 1 events on clay. Hopefully we will see the Belgians play Serena, Maria, and Amelie on clay and we can see who is really playing great.

You should have won that first set.

Juju:bounce: Elena:sad:

I really thought Elena played the better first set, but you have to hand it to Justine...she really steps up her game on the big points! Elena kinda fizzled away in the second, and then Juj did...but she pulled it together in the end.

I kinda wish Elena would have won, but she should be happy, she played well.

Great week Jujumaster!;)

p.s. I dunno if I like Justine's allezs after her opponent makes errors when she didn't really do anything to win the point, it just seems kinda unsportsmanlike.:(

Mwoehaha, een hele week hebben enkele sportjournalisten zitten melken op Juju, maar zie, ze zet ze toch maar weer allemaal netjes op hun plaats!

Congrats Juju, still proud to be your fan!!!!

Lots of long games...Elena had her chances. Justine's serve is sort of :scared:, but she backed it up well today.

I'm convinced just yet that she's a favorite for Roland Garros, though. I'll have to see how she (and the other ladies) do in Europe.

Elena did it again. She was leading and everytime she had the match in her hands, she threw it away. Her record in Tier 1s and GS continues.

Justine played very well, but only after her chances had been given the kiss of life by Elena losing the 1st set from 5-3 up!

Aren't you acting a bit poor? Juju played not for about a year, it's really normal that she's not playing at her best level, but hey, you do NOT win a tier I when you're playing bad. And btw: didn't she win the second set against Lindsay, and wasn't she starting great in the third? Lindsay could handle a match like that against a player who's not as good as Juju, sure about that.

Actually, what particularly pleases me about this win (as a Justine fan) is the fact that she wasn't playing her best tennis throughout and still won a Tier I. Justine's always had trouble in the early rounds - lots of three setters - even when she's been on top form and I really think that getting through all of her matches even when not playing her best will give her a lot of confidence.

Playing well means closing out the important points.

Phew, that was close! Nice playing Justine, although I was concerned about how tired you seemed in that second set. Anybody know how many net points Juju won? She's one of the few players who hit approach shots (on purpose), in order to come to the net. Most of the other girls run in because of a short ball, then just decide to stay there  Classic volley technique, Justine! Where's that poster that said Justine couldn't volley? :haha:

Yup these matchups will really give us a sense of how things will go at Rolland Garros and the rest of the season. I mean Mauresmo might be choker, however on clay whenever shes not playing on a final or Rolland Garros shes very tough to beat. We will just need to see how Maria holds up her game on clay and whether Serena really will make a statement before making a run for the Rolland Garros she wants in her collection to complete her duo of titles at each slam.

Fantastic win Justine! :yeah:

I really liked that first set, high quality of tennis. Elena deserved the lead in the first, but at 5-3 she was only up one break, and unfortunately for her, because of her serve, her opponents will always have confidence they can break back. Justine also raised her game then and in the end deserved to win that set.

I knew at 4-1 in the second it wasn't over yet, I mean this is Justine who's playing and we all know she likes to scare her fans ;) Elena did well to fight back and who knows what would have happened if she could have saved the third match point.

I hope Elena will soon win a big title, but as I said she's just gonna have to keep working hard on her serve, cause she cannot trust on it to serve out a set or a match.

I'm so proud of you Justine! Congrats :D

Well well well....

I see you are not really following Justines matches.

You know, she is much more of a dementieva than a clijsters in matches, she doesn't often steamroll her opponents. She always plays with reserves and shift gears on the course of the match. So often she plays with lose games and that gives us Justine fans some heart attacks.

But Justine is a big fighter and has a strong mental state that even when she is down she can always comeback and win.

That is the difference between a player of Justine's caliber and of the Kimmies.

Player who often wins easily on matches are not used to these long 3 set matches that when the encountered such or when faced with an opponent who challenges their game, they seem to froze and choke.

To us Justine fans, nah...its ok, our Justine thrives well in 3 set matches and always rises to the ocassion when threatened!

It wasn't just Elena's serve today but her silly unforced errors not to mention she hit shots right back at Justine.

Anyway with this said, Justine played the better tennis and worked the clay court points better. You can see the flashes of brilliance in Justine's shots. Her droppers, her lobs and her point work. She was hands down the better player in todays match and the scary part is she was not even close to her 100% form.

I agree!

I think Justine is the most Federer-like player on the womens tour with her variety, technique, speed and power. We saw patches of it today and if she still can improve, I think she for the most of the time will figure out a way to win against the best players.

Congrats Justine to the title!

Elena, work on playing the big points better (especially don´t hit a DF at one  ) and I think could be a threat for big titles.
