Me used to play tennis 2 years ago with my brother and some of my friends but i have stopped it because i was too bad, my only weapons were my serve and my backhand (but especially my serve :p ) Now, i prefer practising volley ball and basket ball :p

I play at University in Competition and have a training group with some of my best friends. We train 3 to 4 times a weeks and do our off court fitness together in our dorm every night. There is me another boy and 2 girls. We are a team and we have awesome fun. We all play different. Im the Power player and liken my game to Davenport. I mcan pretty much out hit and over power anyone but im really slow and dont like long rallies and variety.

i only play with friends.
i just told them that i want to try out some things and really feel the game - so now i've played against 5 of them (some more than once) and still havn't lossed! :)
i'm hoping on building some confidence and ask someone that learns to play against me, kinda like asking someone on a date i guess  my backhand is my only consistent shot. one handed - and i slice momo-style.

I mostly play doubles, don't know why, it's just more fun. The last doubles match I played was Saturday (mixed doubles). Me and my partner won 6-2 6-0, so that's not bad I guess, especially since it was only my second time indoor (last time was a singles match, in wich I only won 3 games). I mostly play on clay or hardcourt, so that's a little bit slower than indoor and rather play doubles on that surface for that. The rallies are just longer and intenser IMO. Also in singles, when I play, it's almost every time on clay, just like it better.

I played last week against my friend and I lost 3-6 0-6 (at least I won 2/3 more games than usual :p )

I was leading 3-1 and 0-30 on her serve and we sorta had an argument over a point and from then one the double faults came rolling in, and the backhand started flying into the fence. My forehand kept hitting into the net. At least my drop shots went over, shame they landed so deep into the court :tape:

i dont play competitive, besides club which isnt really that competitive. i never train and only started playing a couple months before i turned 18 (20 now), i coached a bit in my first year. when i went in for my first lesson the pro coach thought i was already playing competitive and was shocked to find out i hadnt played before, he says im A grade standard but that was at the end of my first year and now im much better than that so i dont really know what kind of level im at now. actually cant play much atm because i have a shoulder injury (nerve and muscle damage) so thats recovering and being strengthened up.

I once was ranked in top 10 for my state, however hurt me ankle badly and never really got back there due to fitness and travel costs and troubles.

i still play in a-grade at my club however have had a shocking season loosing to ppl that are like 65+ :help: i was seeded 7th at club champs and lost in first round on centre court was so embarressing!

i play a bit like dokic hit the ball flat and hard and return of serve is better than my serve most of the time. i can be very safin like and absolutely blast the ball and wipe the court some days but others i really can't be bothered and go out there just slapping the ball around!

i have very short temper on the court which recently resulted in me getting a code violation from tennis australia at the wa open in dec 04 :haha: was soo funny down 6-2 5-1 30-0 and lost the points and i yelled out f**k this shit you are so f**kd in the head how can u let this wanker beat you for that i lost 3 demerit points then i smashed my racquet into the court and it went into scoreboard near the net (another 2 poiints) :haha:

im having a term off training but will get back into during end of term 2 and term 3 and train 3-4 times a week on and off court so i can get back to my peak fitness and build my club ranking and play some tournaments in perth!

I try to play once a week with a buddy of mine. We are both beginners and could definitely use a lesson or two. The last time we played I was somewhat satisfied with my performance. My serve held up pretty well. The day before my buddy defeated me 6-4, 7-6 (7). The day after I wiped the court with his butt 6-1, 6-1!!!!
Course - my friend has a very negative attitude on court. He pretty much gave up. I never give up!

Yesterday I played on red clay for the first time. Every year I recognize how different this game is. You use more spin, you play with more variety and you have to consider the conditions as well as your technique. For the first practise-session, it was quite OK and I was satisfied with my play.
Today I will play from a lower men's team, but he isn't soo good. He has some power, but is pretty inconsistent. Good serve. I hope to come through this one. :)

I have had some funny matches this year, might talk about that later.

BTW, approaching 9000 posts.

and trust me he didn't mean it as a joke. bonnie and jeremy were on the opposite side of the net and bonnie grilled his arse! it was weird cuz the the girls were the stronger players today. fortunately i managed to save our butts from defeat. i kept hitting to jeremy's BH which is weak and he normally just blocks it back and it worked cuz i hit loads of volley winners from it.

i play A grade mens comp with rad. we had a blast last nite :)

i came back from 2-5 to win 7-6(1). I actually beat a serve/volleyer which is difficult for someone like me who plays defensive tennis, with slices topspin angles and lots of running. but i really got in to a groove on the forehand passing shots and hit winner every time he came forward from 2-5 down :).....and for once i came back i usually implode down by such a big margin!

rada came back from 2-4 to win 6-4. with rad it was just him making the play all the time as per usual :) he has the hardest groundiesin the comp. from 2-4 he stopped missing by inches and strated hitting winners off at will.

we won doubles 6-3 :) & one of the guys was acting a real cow (but cane u blame them after the singles lol) and questioning our calls so rad had the guts to tell him where to go ;)...wish i had the guts to say something:)

I started quite late (20 years old) and quit learning from coaches due to costs, so I've been playing with some friends... I'm slowly improving and I won a few friends who I never would have won last time.

To make things better, I joined my school's competition and won my first match after a first round exit the year before. I had to play the second round on the same day and sadly, I had cramps and it was all over.

Confidence built up after I found more consitency on my serves and I joined one national tournament, and Wham! I got my ego slapped. I was demolished. Apparently, I have not seen what a really big serve is and now I know that I'm actually so lousy.

Now my confidence is at an all time low. I'm considering to join another tournament in July, hopefully I can return very curved and fast serves.

Good Luck :)

Hi everyone :)
I made this thread to talk about us and tennis (tournaments, results, ...) :D

What about you? Do you play good ? or bad? any rankings? any tournaments? :D
Thanks to answer :wavey: :)

Great thread :yeah:

I havent played any tournaments in the last year because of other stuff going on - but I am still practicing. I have won 4 USTA tournaments / playing 3.5 level
a few years ago. I am a baseliner, 2 hands off both, right handed. Best shot is my forehand - Love to have long rallies with other baseliners.

Very nice thread.

I will be playing regionals in which if I win two out of my three matches I quallify for state championships. Biggest tournament for me this year. I'm most likey playing doubles 1 and we will most likely get killed. I'm 14 and the guys that we are in our divison are ... 19. My partner is 16 though. I play on Monday.

By the way, I live in OKlahoma.

I had a League match yesterday. Unfortunately it rained and we couldn't finish it. :rain:

My score is 6-4 4-6 susp. but I should have won in two. :( I played pretty badly.
Play will continue in three weeks :o our team is currently down 0-2 but we still have a chance, that is if I win my match.

i dont really play much anymore but am still in the top 5 for my age in my state and am in the state team. i kinda play a marat safin style, big groundies and come into the net alot, unfortunately my serve sucks but i can have good days with it. i hav a marat temper aswell lol lots of swearing, racquet throwing, tanking etc. i hate defensive tennis, i am very vulnerable to getting "hacked" (moonballed) out.

last time i played was two weeks ago cos i got rained out last week.

was horrid.

first doubles 3-6. I had to play with a guy from division 2 replacing someone from my team. having a div.2 player on my side it felt impossible! i actually set him up with game points EVERY game but he couldnt return their serves at all. and i actually hit quite a few return and volley winners so was doing well

singles 0-6. all i can say is LOL. what a joke. even in poor form this guy should not have standaded a chance. i was incredulous to how i played but for some reason just didnt care....maybe that first doubles broke my spirits

doubles 4-6. again i decide to play normal tennis in doublees but this time my partner was nuts! he got thumped in singles so he was in a bad mood and just played the lowest % tennis going for second serve aces and winners at all times....i dont know how i got 4 games with the amount of errors he hit.

maybe i should retire from singles and stick to doubles. my singles win/loss is 4-6 now.... thats pathetic....

Our team won 4-2 today. :D

I lost my singles match 3-6 6-3 0-6 :o (but my opponent was the strongest of the team :p).
The tie was 2-2 after singles so we had to win both doubles. The other team won easily and we should have done the same as we were up 6-1 2-0. But then we really wasted the lead and lost the set on a tie-break after having MP.
In the 3rd we were up 4-0 and 5-1 but choked badly again. :retard: At 5-3 I was serving and it was 15-40, if we had lost that game ... :scared: Fortunately I got some serves in and we won 6-1 6-7 6-3. :D

thankfully i recovered from my drubbing two weeks ago.

i lost doubles 6-7 (had many match points, they were lucky)
6-3 in singles ( i had game point for 4-0 and loads of fh winners)
6-1 in doubles with rada, finally got to play with a good player and we just OVERPOWERED them simply.

:) back in form....

i was worried in singles tho! i only lost about 2 or 3 points on my way to 3-0 and had game points for 4-0...but started thinking about how bad i played a few weeks ago and got tight. luckily at 5-3 i loosened up and had 3 or 4 winners to close that game (phew)!!

when i tighteneed up i hit a few moonballs and rada looked at me, laughed and said "conchita" = embaressment

I had some pretty outstanding results in competition this year... for me it's already over, since we have more people in our team than matches to be played.

1st meeting: Won Singles 63 60, Won Doubles 64 63
2nd meeting: Won Singles 64 62, Won Doubles 64 76(6)
3rd meeting: Won Singles 60 60, Won Doubles 64 26 63
4th meeting: Won Singles 61 62, Won Doubles 64 63
Last Meeting: Lost Singles 36 26, Lost Doubles 36 26...

I should not have played that last meeting... I had played so much since March... got injured in the 4th meeting and really wasn't ready to play that last meeting. But I wanted to, I was on a hot winning streak. Which I obviously ruÔned that day. I didn't play all that bad, my forehand just kept going out by a CM. And well, it's my biggest weapon...

Next Tuesday I will be playing my first tournament of the season... Exciting. I'm seeded first, which is a first for me as well! I hope I can live up to it! :D

Well, I went through two years full of injuries. It was hell, I lost to like beginners last year. It was horrible... I wanted to quit.

But I bounced back and I got back to level where I was a longgggg time ago. Plus, I think I am better now because I am smarter on court and take better care of my body! Tennis = Hot! :D

I have been playing pretty well of late but yesterday i played what i would call a Conchita Martinez style player throwing junk @ me and i just couldnt handle it. he served a second ball on the line and the ball had a very strange rebound  (it was on clay..)
he came back at 6-6, then I lost tie break 7-3..

i played rada for practice and was losing 4-6 4-3 when it started to rain,he fell trying to move back and hit an overhead so we called it quite  he had about 15 winners off my serve...dang...he can crack it for a thing guy!

but i got my revenge a few days ago and played him in front of a wtaworld crowd of martinafan and mark. i was up 5-3 moved him around but went for too much on the big fh winner and missed by cm's :(. i was lucky in the next game to break him for 6-4 win as i took advantage of the second serves. my forehand was quite hard but my game and rads couldve been much better. i felt nerves playing in front of a wtaworld crowd and was simply putting my sevre int o play and very fortunate it wasnt killed....if rad had some sleep and didnt party all nite it probably would have been killed.

i wanted to play martinafan/dean too but we were busy getting ready cos we all went clubbing :)

I played competition weekly at Uni this term and i won all my matched bar one when i went into a huge error fest i hate when that happens it makes you feel like you never want to play again. But hey i got over it and blasted my next opponent. I seem to have real trouble though with serve and volleyers.

Jun 28th, 2005, 09:56 PM
Well I managed to play a few matches for the first time in 6 months or so recently, and played someone vastly inferior. He had only started playing a while ago, so I won our four matches 60 61, 61 61, 61 62 and 60 60 :o ;)

I'm a serve-volleyer, don't have any power at all (despite all my efforts to change my grips) and rely on winning at the net, slicing, dropshotting etc. as I can't rally with a decent baseliner for more than a few strokes :o. I was once overpowered by a 70 year old at my old club who kept playing deep strokes and pinning me to the baseline, and his groundstrokes were more penetrating than mine :o

Wondering if anyone has any advice on where/how to get coaching or join a club so i could improve my game. Obviously Im not espiring to go professsional, I just want to play more regularly; however, I dont know anyone who likes tennis around here. I played high school (1st singles, captain as a junior) but don't like competitive tennis - too boring.

I play with college level players, but for fun - I like going for my serves, hitting the ball hard and going for low percentage shots all the time.

That's what I find fun about the game, taking chances and still winning.

In competitive tennis you have all those damn challenge matches and moon balling dorks who try to bore you off the court

The best players for fun matches are guys and gals who've had only minimal formal training, natural talents who don't play like robots. :worship:

Also I like playing with "high spirited" people (Connors and Zvereva types :yeah: ). If the play is to hit me with the ball at the net, go ahead and hit me, its all good."
