Elena was much more active than Patty, she went for her shots, she was really impressive since the beginning of the second set smashing one winner after another... great to see her play well.

Dementieva deserved to win here, because Patty wasn't aggressive at all today.

Elena's shown she's a real fighter this year, with lots of weapons. She moved well despite the strapping. She hung in the rallies and stayed aggressive, and she has blistering forehands and backhands.

She did drift in and out of form until the end of the 2nd set. then it was all Dementieva. However the new improved serve didn't make an appearance here.

Anyway, is this Elena's time to take her first Tier 1 title?

It was a good match. Till Dementieva stepped it up a level and schynder crumbled. Schynder has played the most consistent at Charleston this week but Dementieva in that seocnd set was hitting winner after winner after winner. Dementieva started off slow against Schynder in the first set. 4 serves from Schynder. 1-0. Then Dementieva serve looked like the one in the previous match and Schynder bokre without breaking a sweat. That was hte difference in the first set. Dementieva was making errors. Schynder had time to make her shots and did so. The second set where things changed. Dementieva was hitting more into the ball. She wasn't being moved as much and she was hitting into the ball. Schynder started to get frustrated and I knew that if she didn't win in straights it was over. Schynder was a little bit out of it in the third set and Dementieva was on fire. Schynder did not play as good as she could have. When Schynder beats the top players. She hits line after line. She didn't do that today. Dementieva gets payback at Schynder's most consistent tournament. Isn't tennis grand?

wasn't only the fight wot won it, Elena was very aggressive to take the second and third sets and she also played patty at Patty's game pretty well some really some really neat angles on key points to answer Patty angles.

Don't know about the thigh tapings though - is there anyone in the top 10 who isn't injured?

Must have been a poor first set for Lena.......Patty only had a handful of winners and took it 6-3.

But of course she fought through the second set, and took command in the third as she improved her play, especially on her serve. :bounce:

I'm a bit disappointed for Patty but i knew it was a tough assignment for her today. They both have great games but Lena has a stronger heart. Patty was very close to winning at 4-4 in the second. It's quite a good rivalry that they have got going.

i remember that no less an authority than Monica Seles once said that Patty's blase attitude is actually a psychological tactic to get the opponent to let their guard down. I thought that was an interesting analysis...

well, maybe i am wrong about that then, but either way it is quite an impressive rivalry if you look at the recent matches they have played against each other.

I saw the highlights and Elena really did hold it together when it counted.

I still hear people cuss her serve but when you compare what she is doing now to USO 2004, the difference is huge, better pace, placement and no puffballs. And she still gets shit for it.

I thought she started playing amazing. The way she broke Patty to take the 2nd set was amazing.

The court is playing very fast and that suits Elena better than Justine IMO.

Good luck today Elena, hope she can handle Justine's spins and power them back at her :)

BTW, they did exchange some words at the net with a smile.

I actually think both girls like each other. There is definitely a lot of respect for one another, especially looking at Patty's post match quotes.
