Folks, take note: the Belgians are back. Kim was outstanding in March and grabbed two titles and tons of money. Today, Justine got a well deserved 7-6(4) 7-5 win over Golovin who's had a very good run during this tournament (Charleston-05). Tomorrow may well mark Justine's first title since coming back; let's just wait and see.

But of course, I agree and I'm glad to see that the Belgians seem to be back ;)

that was the kiss of death. i understand that you love justine and all, but i hate it when people make bold predictions like that. it'll always come back to bite them in the ass.

but i want juju to win!

Kim's back.

Justine's not showing her old form and general stunningness but she's showing she's willing to work her way back up to the top and that's commenable. Hopefully by the French her ranking and play will be back up to where it should be.

*points to the 'may as well give Lindsay the trophy' thread for both Charleston and the US Open 2004*

Well, isn't it even more amazing that Justine is not at her stunning form, but she's in the final???

I agree.

Justine has some way to go yet judging by the way she's played in the matches I've seen rather than the results.

And suddenly Russian invation seems to have stagnated too.....with 3 of the 4 old elite still showing how it's done.

I agree, whether Justine loses or not she has played like a Champion and fought through the whole week. It would be more impressive for her to win the title even without playing her best tennis. She is really tough mentally and that is what has really helped her get this far.

wow, levo. you're a hater aren't u. not liking it when the belgians are back because they pose a serious threat to your faves. instead of hating, give them props. and if your faves beat the belgians, it shows that they can handle anything that comes their way. would u prefer it if your faves won only when the competition is minimal and depleted?

Juju definitely has a lot of positive things to draw upon after reaching the QFs of Miami and now the finals. Whether she wins tomorrow or not, I still wouldn't get too ahead of myself and proclaim "Justine is back". She's always going to be a major threat cuz she's an amazing player, but advancing past an injured Lindsay and beating Molik in Miami doesn't really translate into 'being back'. I definitely will say she's progessing along nicely and in time she 'should' be back, but right now we can only proclaim one Belgian is back- Kim. The other one is, seemingly, on her way back...

Justine's tennis isn't really back. In the SF she showed some good shots and points every now and again, but overall, she's not playing with the same aggressiveness that got her to #1. She didn't go to net nearly enough. There were times during the rallies where I was trying to will her to the net, but she stayed back.

It's really her determination, competitiveness, and mental strength that's gotten her to this point. It's what got her to win that set against Sharapova in Miami, and hopefully it's going to be the thing that'll get her to win this title. Justine is a long ways away from playing her best, but what's amazing about her is that she's willing to push, strike, and kill her way to win a match -- it doesn't always work, but I love her fighting spirit. She probably knows that it's not her tennis that's winning her matches, it's her ferocity.

Justine's showing flashes of brilliance, but not even 50% of the time though, and that's the problem right now. She just needs to gain more confidence in herself. Winning tomorrow would give her ENORMOUS confidence. Losing would still give her ENORMOUS confidence because she can look back and say "Hey, I've played 6 matches this week, 3 of which went to 3 sets, and I fought the whole way through not playing my best." Either way, it's a win-win situation. Doesn't matter if Justine wins or loses, because she's still going to draw good from it. Only we fans want to see her hold that trophy so badly ;)

players don't have to be at 100% to win maches, they just have to learn to win the important points, convert where necessary, that is how success is achieved. Wining the big points also is a result of good results.
Personally i don't judge how a player is going to do in a match based on a previous match.
Look at lindsay double bagelling a hot maria only to lose the very next match.

Today's news is: Justine got her first title on her second tourney since back. She just won the final at Charleston 75-64 over Dementieva.

Yup! The Belgian kids are back! And Juju has plenty of room to improve. The tour better take notice.

Although she won the match, I could not enjoy her style of play. She played some ugly tennis and wasn't very efficient in her shots. Too bad, but as someone said it already, room to improve...

Yep. I was thinking the same thing. Glad to see the champs stepping up to the plate, and putting contenders in their rightful places. Just wish V were among.

Anyway: impressive return from Justine. Great use of her fight and experience (a la Rena). Keep working on the game, though!
