With Maria inching closer to #1, how do you guys think Maria will do on the clay? Last year she did pretty good, losing to good clay court players (Capriati, Farina Elia, and Suarez). Since we all know that Maria loves the fast surfaces and thats where her best results come and she probably knows in the back of her mind that she's close to #1,how do you think she'll do on the clay?

its not her forte but with her game she was never gonna be a "classical clay court" player.

she may struggle if she comes up against a clijsters or someone really good at running everything down on clay, but she's good enough to beat most players on any surface.

not my tip for Roland Garros though. until she proves that she has a plan B (those shots are absolutely awesome but hitting the lines all the time means that they'll all be out on an off day, like vs Suarez last year) i see her coming unstuck in "the big one". then again, if they all go in, there's not much that too many people can do about it, with clay being a neutraliser or not.

I think she will do really well on clay, the Australian open is also a rather slow court and she got to the SF and the QF at RG last year, doesn't look bad at all !! But it won't be easy for her

I'm not wildly optimistic.

She'll do good on clay. She should be able to run down that extra ball herself and she's pretty consistent from the back of the court. The sliding may hold her back though.

Maria adapted well to the hard courts - which had been her worst surface through most of last year, so I hope she'll adapt her game well to red clay.

And she did reach the RG QF last year! Hopefully she will improve on that.

SHe will do fine. Ýou can never underestimate her. The girls works hard and the results will come. Still, if she meets the belgium girls or even Dementieva on a good day then I don't see her win.

She'll do a lot better than people think, but if she runs into a Suárez-plus type of player on an off day things could get very ugly.

I'll be interested to see how her footwork has improved. Last year on clay she kept tripping over her own feet every second point (though in that match she did take Capriati to three sets). I can't really imagine her sliding :o

well her speed seems to have improved this year.
with those long legs this must mean she has improved her control over her lower limbs - with a lot of footwork practice maybe.

She did pretty well last year at RG didnt she?

Maria's the kinda girl who doesnt let you down too often. She doesnt have very many bad games, so i'm confident she will go far in Paris. I think she can win it, but she'll need a bit of luck (maybe avoid playing the belgians).

vs. Kim: Unless they are playing the finals of RG, Kim will win unless she injures herself.

vs. Juju: On clay, the edge goes to Juju, but Maria's in there with a great fighting chance, especially at Rome (where the courts are slightly faster)

vs. Mauresmo: Not a good match up for Maria, but she should have no problems beating Momo at RG

vs. Everyone else: I think Maria won't have problems with any other player. Therefore, it will depend on the draw, but I think a final and two semis is realistic. I don't really expect any titles, however.

She'll do well. She is a combination of Serena (mental strength and fight) and Davenport (blistering groundies, technically sound). I expect her to do well.

I think maria might do better than people expect of her...last year already she toughed out some good wins to get to the quarters here and I think someone who can push jenny to a 3rd set is pretty good already on "terre battue"!

Maria is better player than she was last year.
I believe that she will do well on clay esp. when the stake is being no.1

she'll need more three sets - but i reckon the results will be simular to the rest of her play.

I think she'll at least defend her QF points at RG this year, but I don't see her winning.

She'll get deep into the tournament unless she runs into Clijsters, or Mauresmo early on.
