It really sucked big time. The condition was quite bad. Both of them are struggle with injuries, obviously Lindsay's was worse.

I was hoping for an good fighting match from Justine but I guess it was quite difficult for her seeing Lindsay not even bothered to move, plus her own thigh (whatever the problem is).

Nevermind, I am still (sort of) relieved that she is through. Hope a better match in the semi.

Told you, Lindsay has a soft spot for Justine and Kim.

As Simon Reed (Eurosport) said, if Justine remained the same level as in 2nd set or upped a level, there was no point for Lindsay to play on. Why risking worsening the injury when there is no light in the tunnel?

Recover soon Lindsay.

I think she just pulled a muscle on her thigh or groin as she didn't want to run at all.

Strange enough, half of Justine's shot was placed right in front of Lindsay; hence the 'closeness' of the match.

I've never seen Lindsay retire from a match, and she has beaten her injured before, thats why I was surprised.

Lindsay couldnt maintain the level she had at the end of the first, unfortunately.

Justine's improving...it wasn't a bad match.

Her forehand and serve are no where close to what they were in '03. But she's still fighting and her bad forehand and serve can still beat most of the players out there.

I think this is the second time she retires a match vs Justine in the last 5 meetings.

If my memory serves me right, the H2H is now 5-5 with 3 of them retired matches.

This is such a shame because on this clay court [which let's face it, was basically a hard court] she could have won the title and was definately better than Justine today. If she could have moved like she had in Amelia Island she would have won... I'm not being a typical fan but Justine was not playing well at all.

She had a patch of bandage on her left thigh/groin, that's mainly why she wasn't moving as well as yesterday.

Next match should be ok but if she plays how she played in this match, vs Patty (who I think will advance), will be a bit dodgey.

Now isn't that funny? First time since her loss against Petrova in the US Open that they're showing a match of hers here and I won't be able to watch it. I hope I can find a way to tape it, or pray that she'll reach the final.

This isn't how I wanted for Justine to beat Lindsay, but I'm glad she is through. I don't like the idea of her not moving well and having some sort of minor injury. Did she fall, or did I misunderstand from Lady's post?

I'm also sad that Lindsay had to retire. It's so bad for her that she's never able to finish/win those big events where she obviously could win. I hope she gets better soon.

I actually found the match quite amusing the way Lindsay was playing.

Justine played awfully - it shows she still has a way to go before reaching her previous form. She's fortunate not have hurt herself during that comical fall.

As for Lindsay, sorry to see her injured again. Much as I wanted them both to play on I felt it might have been smarter to have retired sooner and not risk hurting herself more.

How is Justine injured? Is it serious? Will it affect her in later matches this week?

Her inner thigh was taped and eurosport thought she was a little slow - whether because of the leg or the virus was unknown.

This is getting silly. Lindsay has a bad thigh. Momo is resting something. Maria saws she feels worn out. Serena is off injured. Nastya has her shoulder problem and possibly something personal if we believe Elena D. Venus says she is exhausted. Sveta is in a lull and seems to run out of steam in second sets. Alicia was tired after Australia and hasn't performed that well since. Jen hasn't been seen all year. Lord knows what is going on with Vera. Karolina has a virus and is losing weight. Francesca by her serving and weeks off still has her shoulder problem.

its only April and at least 60% of the top 20 is sick or injured.....

Justine's play was really awful to watch in parts. There were times after lindsay's injury break that Justine couldn't get a ball over the net! That virus must still be affecting her. She only got about 45% of serves in court.

Lindsay just abandoned the match after losing game 1 of set 3.

Justine did not play THAT poorly, rather Lindsay was smokin' winners in the first set, and even after pulling her thingy, her forehand was still dead on. Justine was streaky at best and showed flashes of her former brilliance(dtl winners, an AWESOME  forehand scoop half-volley winner, etc.). What I noticed most about Justine is she has slowed down a pace. Hopefully she'll work that out in short order, because her speed is critical in defeating players like Serena, Sharapova, etc.

As for your second statement, I couldn't agree more. Lindsay was watching balls go by that left peachfuzz on her skirt!

I think she could have and should have finished. I'd rather see her win the match, and I think she would have if she went on in the third because JHH was looking far from impressive, and then just pull out after that. Still no wins versus Clijsters or Henin-Hardenne since 2002. She'll have to avoid them at the French, if that's at all possible.
