Certain:

Lindsay Davenport (USOPEN or year-end)
Magdalena Maleeva (interview; date not exactly known; pobably end of 2005)
Paola Suarez (thread about Paola and Vivi wants to stop her)

Probable:

Conchita Martinez (read an article)
Mary Pierce (isn't getting younger)
Chanda Rubin (health problems)
Martina Navratilova (given her recent results)
Silvia Farina Elia (there have been rumours since 2001)

Quite a list.

Do you think that is probable?

:( If Chanda retires this year it will be a shame. I hope her knee will hold up and let her play at least one more season (2006) being completely injury-free.

i think Davenport is likely to continue as long as she keeps winning.

Farina also has not indicated she wants to retire, and she is playing well.

Especially if Lindsay wins the US Open, I see her playing some in 2006.

Conchita said that this could be her last season, but the following week she won Pattaya and them beat Asagoe, Myskina or Dechy so she changed her mind and said that wasn't for sure :)

Paola said she will probably retire in 2006, though 2005 isn't out of the question, in those articles about her wanting to retire and Vivi trying to stop her. So, hopefully she won't retire until 2006!!

I don't think Mary Pierce will retire this year either. She seems to be enjoying herself out on the court & is playing better than she has in a few years.

none of these players has officially announced retirement, so we cannot say it...Silvia and Lindsay said that many times, but they are both playing very well and enjoying it, so they may change their mind (I hope so !!!:) )...
those who are not playing well, or not enjoying the tour anymore, might reire...I can see Smashnova, Maleeva, Suarez, Callens, Rubin....probably Grande

Chanda WILL NOT retire this year, unless she has an injury that prevents her from ever coming back. Chanda has been trying to get back on court for almost all of 2005, and if she wanted to retire (my sources say) she would have retired a long time ago.

People underestimate Chanda's fight to succeed, I mean, who would have thought that Chanda Rubin after suffering a horrific injury in 2001 would come back in 2002 to have one of the best years of her career? Never count out Chanda, because the second you do, when you least expect, she'll be back in the thick of things.

sadly pointblank is probably true -
smashnova said that she's taking "this last year" lighty :(
fucking sad.
obziler came back at 29 years of age and played some of her best tennis ever - but it was mostly so she gets better for fed-cup.
since she isn't improving that little step to take her to the top100 - she'll probably be retiring as well, which is - IMO much much sader than reaching #2 as a career high.

Lina Krasnoroutskaya... so young... and could possibly have become one of my fanees if she'd progressed like she was supposed to!

Monica Seles said she would retire if she wasn't ready to come back by January 2005... but she's still preparing for a possible comeback! :)

Mary has never indicated that she is going to retire after this year, so I don't really understand why you put Mary on the list. She said after AO that she is looking forward to next year. So she will probably play through 2006. And it seams like she is getting back to were she want to be so I really don't think a retirement is to think about this year.

You know sebbe, I said that because of her age and because she seems to stuck at her current level which must be hard for such a champ. It's natural to put players with her age on such a list. Since it'S not certain, I just speculated a bit. :)
