your right alex...she did say at the start of the year that she wants to go to new places to see the sites and the cultures of living, ever since she went to thailand....thats why she is playing in Stockholm Tier 3 during the hard court season as well.

I saw her interview this week.. She said she wanted to play an event before the FO but that it definately wouldnt be Berlin, i guess she has chosen Istanbul. :)

alot of players are paying respect to the country. if i could go to any non-slam tourny - i'd go to istanbul.
no american or aussie tourny needs me to pay it's unding, likewise the european ones.
this cup will be built mostly of heart - and i think that's why the top players are commiting.
i would also love to see Ipek playing with Anna. she is so nice, she loves israel and she's just... a really really inspiring person.

I think she can - Kim played Tier III Luxermbourg when she was ranked #2 in the world.

Didn't Maria Sharapova play 2 really low-tier tournaments in Asia last year after Wimbledon???

I believe they can play tier 3's, they just can't play them if they're opposite a tournament that's a higher tier.

The rule changed this year: Players on the Gold Exempt List must contest the highest tier event possible during any particular week. Since Istanbul and Strasbourg are both Tier 3's, Venus would be able to contest Istanbul without infringing the new rules.
