Bad serving, not being able to convert on break points were her undoing.

Fortunately, she isn't gong to drop that much in the rankings (for now). I think she will fall to 10.

Tatiana was very very solid, nothing more, nothing less.

Yes, you could say Tatiana didn't have to do anything special to win, but at the moment that's certainly not necessary to beat a Venus Williams.

All she had to do today was keep the ball to Venus's FH and it worked, but she can't think that she will wins slams and be a permanent fixture in the top ten by just being a backboard...

Ugh, you're so fucking stupid. Venus needs to work on her technique. She needs a different coach. Of course she knows what to do on court, but she made a ton of errors because she can't control her racquet and footwork. You just cannot be objective, you have to spew your negativity. Well, I guess when it comes from inside, you have to project it onto someone else.

nah, i think tati did the right thing...if she tried to match venus's aggression, she might have lost the match because she's not as powerful or as good at the net. she played the good counter-puncher game. i'm sure she's aggressive when she needs to be. she doesn't strike me as merely a defensive player, but she did it against venus and it worked.

I'm not even a big fan of Venus and yet I was sitting on my chair screaming at her to attack and beat the heck of her opponent.

But instead, she is heading home. I don't think it's over Venus, not by a longshot, but she really, really has to admit she has a lot of work to do to get back to where she was before her injury in 2003.

Isn't Golovin somewhat of a defensive player as is? I've only seen her play 1-2 times, but she reminded me of a Hingis-like player those times in that she used different kinds of shots to win as opposed to power.

Did you watch the match? No. Did Venus win? No.

And since when is coming to the net a good tactic on clay? It's pure desperation because nothing else is working for her.
Believe me, Venus would try to win from the baseline if she could rely on her grounstrokes. She can't.
That's why she's going to the net, but even for that her groundstrokes are too weak.

When you are as good as Venus is and you are competing against a player like Golovin, yeah net play is a great tactic on clay.

People seem to think that the only way to win on clay, you have to get the ball back in play from the baseline and hope someone makes a mistake.

I'm sure if you look at the positives of Venus' stats, you would see she had the best success at the net in that match.

Part of Venus' problem is that she has coaches that think they don't have any more to teaach her. How many quotes have I read where Richard says I taught them what to do they just have to go out and do it.

Fine. Maybe you should reteach that shaky second serve and forehand venus has. Maybe you should throw in some lobs and more slices. She rarely does that. Where is that in her arsenal. Maybe what you taught her was fine for two years ago but the game has moved on. Venus needs to move on with it.

Maybe she needs to start getting scouting reports from her coach. You know get out there and scope out the competition and form a game plan.

When your game plan is to only Play My Game and it doesnt work then you need a plan B to fall back on instead of losing.

Venus :haha: :haha: :haha: Pathetic performance. Easily her worst so far this year. Even when she was injured against Silvia she still tried her hardest to win the match. Today she didn't even try against an opponent who also struggles with her belief and mental strnegth in big matches. And all the Williams fans were saying she was going back to where she once was. She'd better give some serious consideration about playing another tournament beofre the French Open because if she doesn't defend her points, she is going to fall out of the top ten for sure.

Billie Jean isn't involved with Fed Cup anymore, boo. :tape:

Here's the all-too-predictable formula: Venus shows up in Delray Beach for Fed Cup, smooths out the kinks in her game with Zina Garrison's help, wins her next tournament without losing a set, declares herself "fixed," and lapses back into her old, bad habits. You can set your watch by it.

Bad serving, not being able to convert on break points were her undoing.

Fortunately, she isn't gong to drop that much in the rankings (for now). I think she will fall to 10.

I'm not reading the thread, but the opening post says a lot for me.

This is another bad loss for Venus, I'm really annoyed and thought she'd get her game back together this week after displaying some slam winning form against Lindsay in their first set last week. It's one step forward two steps back, so it seems.

Tatiana has the perfect game to knock off big name players when they are having off days, very much like Myskina. 11 errors over the course of 22 games is pretty damn impressive. I still feel like she needs to develop a weapon besides consistency to crack the top 10, but wins like this show she's going to carve out a satisfying career.

Venus:mad: needs to stop hitting off her fucking back foot from the baseline. It hurts her technique, it hurts her power, it reduces her winners and adds to her errors. I think her heart is certainly in the right place. She's been playing a full schedule for the first time in her career and is focusing just on tennis, but she needs to hear another voice or she won't get any better and the results will get worse from here. 90000 people have told her to iron out her forehand. 90000 people have told her to GO TO THE NET! You'd think when she's experiencing the longest tournament drought and worst tournament results she's had since 1997, she'd take a clue and listen.

BJK isn't coaching FedCup anymore, Zina is . . . and, anyway, Venus never follows through on anything she's taught by BJK or Zina so, what's the point of them wasting their time?

Today, Tatiana played very good tennis, capitalizing on almost every break point she had while Venus only broke ONCE. That's pathetic play from a top player and Slam winner. Really, it is!!! Tatiana passed Venus at will, leaving her flatfooted at the net. Richard was left to mumble to himself in the stands.

Sad, really sad. Venus had better get herself together because she's playing like pure crap.

:sad: I never saw it but it sounds like too many unforced errors was the problem again. Venus clearly needs to do some work on the forehand. Also she is not winning on reputation anymore - people aren't scared of really taking her on and not nervous when finishing it off. Serena can still win matches on reputation even when she's not playing well IMO but that's not the case for Venus anymore.

I thought Venus did well at the net against Sharapova in Miami, when she got there. With her wingspan and volleys she's got to get there more often. Hopefully Zina will try and give Venus that advice for the Fed Cup tie. Against a Belgium team without Kim and Henin, it would be a good place to experiment.

But, it's like how many times can you say the same thing to a person? Of course there's nothing left to learn. She was taught how to hit correctly, but obviously she's playing instinct tennis out there and not smart tennis like she's capable of. That's why I think Brad would be helpful to her. Venus needs to rededicate herself to the sport if she has any chance in becoming as successful as she was before.

As far as I can tell, she's content with her game with the way it is.

Will she do everything that is necessary to accomplish that goal?? I don't see it.

Venus played so badly, I was surprised how many errors she made! I waited and waited for her to start hitting winners, but they never came, Golovin just had to hit a winner here and there and just wait for Venus to make error after error! It wasn't high quality match!! It was just the opposite!

Okay, let me see if I can explain to you like you're a two year old. It means that you shouldn't let failure get you down. Whenever I want her to win she loses. It's getting annoying.

I think she is not playing any warmup tournaments because she is too tired mentally. That is what the Yahoo article said.

Well, don't believe everything that some article says. I know Venus won't play any warmups before RG but it wouldn't hurt her, unlike last year she seems uncomfortable on it.

And my point is: Venus doesn't have enthusiasm, hence: no success. :)

I'm going to explain it to you like you were a one year old: Denise247 is saying she wants Venus to continue failing, but do it with more enthusiasm. Then she will be a success. Hope that helps. :)

Are those your girlfriends in your avatar? :)

P.S. I'm sorry if you can't think deep enough to understand Winston Churchil's message and in what context it was given.

Venus needs to do one of two things.

1) Find a new coach

2) Listen to Richard

3) Ask Richard to teach her some new technique

1 isn't going to happen
2 isn't going to happen (which is good 'cause I don't want her to retire  )
3 well we'll see

He taught her a new backhand in 2000/2001, and a new second serve, so hopefully a new forehand will follow

 I'm not being saracastic and I'm not a venus hater (even though I know you want me to be) but with all due respect, all of us could use this excuse for anything! (and I admit this is a sarcastic smiley).........

Why would I want you to be a Venus hater?

It's the truth, plain and simple.

Venus needs to take a long hard look at her place in Women's tennis right now....I'm really tired of all these loses:sad: No more excuses Vee. Fix what is wrong and move forward, or step back and say 'no regrets, I had a damn good career'. I'm beginning to think that maybe as a fan, I care more than she apparantly does. I hate it when she loses and usually after a loss, I'm pissed...today, I simply shrugged my shoulders, and said 'oh well, if that doesn't wake her up, nothing will'. Let's hope it does!!

Wow, Golovin actually kind of played like crap, and Venus still coudln't win. Probably the worst match by Venus this year.

This is the 3rd tournament in a row with daddy Richard there. I do'nt see much improvement. In fact, with momma Oracene she at least go to the Antwerp Final... :o

Oh wow poor V, wont she tumble down in the rankings with this loss and she still has warsaw to defend and Berlin Final pnts or was it Rome? I really thought she would make some noise in this tournie and possibly defend her title. This is not good for her Rolland garros prospects because she might be seeded quite low maybe even outside the top 10 and that means she meets the tricker tougher opponents from the get go and shes not the best early round player in general. She usually struggles a bit during the early rounds of tournies trying to get rid of any rust or trying to find her range and rhythm.

well from what i remeber....venus hit about 21 winners, and tati only hit 5...so Venus wasnt outplayed...therefore it did come down to the UE's....

oh well...onto Istanbul Venus!
