View Full Version : The wins that made you happy!!!

I was reading a thread about heartbreaking losses...well what wins by a player have made you SOOOO happy??? :D

Some of mine:

Venus d. Martina 200 Wimby QF 6-3 4-6 6-4 :woohoo:
At that time Venus had never beaten Martina in a GS, and of course she'd never won a slam yet. i think that win started the ball rolling to that amazing summer she had, when she won 36(?) straight matches, and of course took her first GS at Wimbledon along the way. I was at the match, and it was breathtaking.

Venus d. Martina USO SF 4-6 6-3 7-5.
Just amazing quality and drama. I thought Venus was out of it but she came back!! :worship:

Shinobu d. Dani Wimby 2nd round 2003 0-6 6-4 12-10 :hearts:
Again i was there and it was so exciting to watch, Shino came back many tiems during that match, nd of coruse there was the drama with Dani crying and all the problems she was going through at that time. It was Shinobu's first big win!!

Serena d. Masha OZ 2005
Chanda d. Serena to win LA, 2003
Monica d. Martina RG 1998 SF
Majoli d. Martina RG 1997

Venus defeats Martina Hingis, quarter finals Wimbledon 2000. I watched that match, and I had tears in my eyes. As Lindsay said in an interview at that tournament, Venus had never beaten anyone at a slam!

Beating Lindsay became anti-climatic for me!

Serena def. Clijsters '03 AO--great comeback

Kim beating Serena in the Masters final 2002

Kim beating Lindsay in Indian Wells 2005

Lena D's HK Exhibition....she beat both Sharapova and the Queen and then Venus and Serena in doubles - I wish it wasn't just an exhibition, but it shows the depth of her talent

but other than that...Clijsters' amazing comeback, Serena's U.S. Open Victory in 1999 (i remember watching that) and Venus's Wimbledon run in 2000

I would say Lena over Jennifer at the USO.
That guaranteed a second all-Russian slam final in 2004, and three straight majors won by three different Russians.

Justine's Wimbledon SF win over Capriati in 2001. The noise here in the US about Jen's chances of winning THE "Grand Slam" had become deafening. A rain delay at a crucial time in the match freaked me out, because I was sure the more experienced player, the Aus Open and RG Champion Jennifer, would come out of the break and roar back -- but Justine hung tough and won! :):):):):):hearts::hearts::hearts:

The only time in my life I ever hugged a television. :D
