50 Cent edges out Faith Evans to remain at No. 1

Gary Susman

Faith Evans, staking a claim for her status in the hip-hop hierarchy with The First Lady, enjoyed a career-best week, as her CD sold 157,000 copies out of the box, according to SoundScan. Nonetheless, that wasn't enough to dethrone 50 Cent, who was the Billboard album chart's First Man for the sixth straight week. Despite a 22 percent sales drop since last week, his The Massacre sold another 165,000 copies, just enough to relegate Evans to second place.

Evans' debut pushed last week's No. 2, Beck's Guero, down one slot to third place, with sales of 81,000 copies, about half of last week's tally. Switching places were NOW That's What I Call Music! Vol. 18 (up to No. 4, 77,000 sold) and 112's Pleasure & Pain (down one to No. 5, selling 61,000 units). Will Smith's Lost and Found held at No. 6. Green Day's American Idiot jumped three spots to No. 7. Beanie Sigel's The B. Coming fell five rungs to No. 8.

The week's other top-10 debut belonged to Lisa Marie Presley, who sold 56,000 copies of Now What, far less than the 142,000 units that her debut, To Whom It May Concern moved during its first week two years ago. Presley debuted in ninth place, just a thousand discs ahead of Jack Johnson, whose In Between Dreams sold 55,000 copies to finish at No. 10, down two notches from last week.

Wow. Those aren't big #'s for any artist, except for 50, especially 50 and Faith. Everyone elses # were incredibly small.

Those numbers are about normal. The only time you see all numbers go up are before holidays. Easter saw a good increase as well.

I'm shocked that Faith made number 2, especially after hearing that album :tape:
