sorry but this girl could have won so many matches!!!

last year she could have won canberra after having MPs against Suarez, also had MPs over Clijsters(Ter 2 Q/F) and Mauresmo (Tier 1 Q/F). She had match points agin Lisa Raymond aswell in Zurich I think.

she had set points against Capriati in Doha aswell!

This year she let slip a set nd 5-2 lead to win and just got through 7-6(8) after 7 match points and then in the next round a set and 5-3 and again lost her nerve and lost the match!

against Schnyder in the last round Silvia was 4-1 in the final set but let Patty back in at 4-4 before crossing the finish line! Then tonight against Serena Williams she had 2 SET POINTS at 5-4 and lost the game and set 7-5!

WHY CANT SHE EVER HOLD HER NERVE??????? :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:

What about her WIMBLEDON performances?
Sly plays beautiful tennis, and I'll say it again; the most
immaculate 1-handed backhand on tour. Justine's is a whiplash
super sonic version; but Silvia's is elegance.

dont get me wrong but the year she reached the Q/F she played Rubin (7th seed) in the 3rd round and struggled to serve out and had 4 MP if my memory is correct! She couldnt have easily lost that match I believe if she lost her serve at 5-3

She led 5-2 in the third set of the rome Semis last year didn't she?

She's such a great player, who has GREATLY underachieved IMO...her choking frustrates me too.

She also had a big lead against Granville in Memphis 02 or 03..I cant remember..she lost the match eventually..but it was like 2 hours and 45 minutes..I was a ball kid and I remember they wouldnt let me go to the bathroom because Silvia was supposed to win quickly..yea right..and I had to hold it the whole time

well if you looked at the stats you would see patty did from 3 winners and 8 unforced errors in the set at 1-4 to 12 winners and 9 unforced errors by 4-4. then she finished 12 winners 13 unforced errors.

kind of sounds like it was patty who was dictating.

Yeah, unfortunately she IS a choker.

And for her it means that on break-, set- or match-points, she makes errors that she would normally not make, like missing basic shots in a baseline rally. Why, I don't know.

IMO if Silvia had a bit of belief she'd be a Top 10 player

Still it was Serena who choked at the vital moment against her. Well done for saving the match points :) So far this year the only match she really choked away was Jankovic but she had that coming since all she did in Dubai was choke

Farina Elia Fan look at your sig. She says that yet I really don't believe it. You only had to watch her against Venus to show how she knew she didn't have any belief. The commentaters were stunned how tight she got and if she'd lost well it would probably been one if not the worst loss of her career.

We'll see today if she can reach the final without choking ;) :o

she didn't have MPs against Kim.

silvia's problem is that she game is so effective when she keeps a really good depth. when she starts to tight she really loses that and that's why she often takes sets of players like sharapova but then capitulates when it comes to the crunch because those players never are going to lose to someone hitting sort.

Iím just happy to watch one of my favourites of recent years improve, and improve whenever so many give her no chance from year to year. I enjoy watching her all court game. That beautiful backhand is such a great shot to watch being executed so graciously. Itís just a pity that Silvia never made the top 20 earlier in her career to instil that belief she just seems to lack in herself at times. But maybe you donít get the nerves as much as you do when you get that little bit older. I have always thought that Silvia would make a wonderful coach whenever she retired, but hopefully thatís on the distant horizon. I know I would love her to give me a few lessons.

Well done Silvia, keep goin girl! :)

very well writte...I totally agree. Silvia was a very good player whe she was younger, she was a solid top 40-50 player, but she totally lacked of confidence. Marriage and getting older helped her a lot, this is when she reached the top 20, she could have been a top 10, maybe reach nr 8-9 in the world, not more, if she had been more confident with her game.....but she is the best palyer Italy had so far, so it is still a huge achievement :wavey:

Silvia would have been top 10 had she not had the injury from Amelia 1996 100% - oh and met Franci earlier of course (we have talked about it) :worship: Silvia
