Strange Days

4/8/05 8:23 PM

Hello everyone,

I need to debrief. Didn’t come out the victor in my second match today. I played great in the first set and decent in the second and third.
I had five break points in the second and the third sets that I did not convert. This really was a match that I should have won, but despite feeling disappointed I really feel like all the hard work and dedication and my never say die attitude is paying off. Today I felt really comfortable out there, and my 'Hail Mary' shots were all in tact. I hit some great shots and my signature swing volley is coming naturally.

I think my big mistake today was rushing my shots. When the points got close or when I had chances I rushed and did not stay calm. Granted my opponent played some good shots at times but I really should have capitalized. I am getting better and better, my serve rocks and my second serve really rocks. I am on the verge of even greater things. Now I just have to deal with the bitterness and disbelief that comes with such losses. I am willing to move forward and leave this day behind. Tomorrow is a new day, I am going to make it even better than today was!

yes she knew that she was going to have a great first set, and then planned to "tank" the next 2... brilliant strategy.

I think it's prepared beforehand.

How could that be true? She's talking about 5 breakpoints, about a 3-set match every set of which she played at a different level, she's talking about her second serve which WAS really good today (an 58 winning % on second serve points is very good) so I don't think she prepared it, though it seems very quick... A bit funny too that she states her second serve to "totally rock" ;)

This is so cool of her to really write in her website. Alot of players
fake it; and have a pr person do it. Ok- so now I know Venus and
Justine really do something for their official websites. :)

I would usually say she's not paying Lindsay enough respect but she's basically completely right in what she said, she rushed to a 0-40 deficit in crucial service games.

Great post from Venus. And I think that although she lost to LD, it was a positive match in the right direction. And I think its just a matter of time before Venus starts clicking back on all cylinders and winning these big matches.

How lucky are we that our girl decides to write this so soon after that match, could 't have been easy but at least we know how dedicated she is to her fans :bounce: :bounce: Anyway, I'm glad that Venus has reacted in a positive manner to the match, she should be taking this one and building on it. :)

I wish she would surprise us and win Roland Garros. It broke my heart when she lost to serena, but it couldn't have happened to someone else...so that was a little comforting. If she meets serena in the finals, I think this time I would like serena to win, because I would like serena to win the calendar slam, but if serena goes before the finals, then venus needs to take it all. Now if Rena loses the french, then Vee needs to win her namesake dish, the rosewater. The name on the dish is not Serena rosewater, its venus rosewater. It certainly ain't Maria on that dish. But once again if Rena wins Roland Garros, then I would like her to win Wimbly.

She is such a stong person she comes out strong either way.
But I know she'll win a big one soon.

Thanks to Vee :wavey:

But I disagree with the second serve. It still neets lots of work...

CJ07
Apr 9th, 2005, 04:42 AM
Venus's second serve is fine. Actually her serve in general is much, much, MUCH better than it was last year. It's just her groundstrokes. Even her backhand is a bit off.

But just give Richard another few weeks, and by the French Open, Venus should be back to her top3 level.

I think Venus made a great move in only playing clay events....I think it's because she wants to have Richard around and have enough time to prepare intensely

wow, she's very collective and detailed with her thoughts. Seems like she has a good idea what she's doing wrong. Looks like it's just a matter of execution. It's always cool to hear stars being open to their fans. Go venus.

She certainly made an accurate assessment of the match. She failed to convert crucial breakpoints, and a LOT of them. (I thing she was 2 for 12 on breaks.) Credit Lindsay, as Venus does, for a well played match, but Venus had a couple chances to go up a break inthe second set, and didn't capitalize.

You really are an ugly person inside and out, aren't you? So Venus chose to write whatever she wants to say on her own website.. why do you have to pick at it?

You don't have to like her at all but do you have to comment negatively on every little thing..

Maybe you should open you life up on the board and let everyone else pick at you..... and see how much you enjoy it.... jeez..!

Great write-up from Venus. Warms the heart. Didn't watch the match so can't say anything about her self-assessment. Hope her positive attitude isn't in part self-delusional (since when has her 2nd serve really rocked?) And, most importantly, I do hope that she's training and practising hard, several times a week, a la Graf and Sharapova. She won't win big without that level of commitment. So, keep on working, V.

Nice response from Venus and always so hilarious to
see the obsessed haters come in and still be bitter
as always even when Venus has lost! :haha:

Definitely Venus is getting better and better and is
leading up to some big things!

After the 1st set and a half the match just became
mental and she became tentative but she did fight
back and will eventually get there!

Always gotta love Venus!
