:yeah: still i wish she hadn't missed so many opportunities in the second set, a win like that would have been really good for her.

Venus should't be working her way back. She should be back. She should retire. There is nothing left for her. She proves that all the time now.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe it is taking time for her due to the injury she suffered(abdominal teae)? Juan Carlos Ferrero had a similar injury and he is playing nowhere like he played when he won the FO in 2003. In fact, Venus is doing better in her recovery than he is.

You do have a point. Juan Carlos is even worse than Venus. So Venus should feel better.

Yes, but this is just one tournament.

She'll do better at Charleston.

Once she starts converting on those break points she's right back in the mix again at the top. :)

Yeah, I think break points was the only problem in this match for Venus.
It was always like two BP, Lindsay at 15-40, Venus hit the net twice.
Well, this isn't her surface, I think she crushes everybody in Wimbledon! ;)

Hey All,

Venus had her chances - but Lindsay did step it up.

If Venus retires - then how is that hurting her? She then can go on and concentrate on her business - where she is sure to continue making a living. She is playing tennis for her - and not for us fans. So as I see it - she has the right to do what makes her happy. For a fan to suggest she retires is really selfish. I would think that her true fans would want her to keep tying if that is in her heart - and because we will miss her when she does. Win or lose - we still wish her well.

The same goes for Monica and Martina. If it makes them happy to get back into a field that they enjoy - then whom would they be hurting? A true fan would just wish them well.

It is ok to speculate and point out how a player played a point - game and match - but to try to rake them over the coals for not winning any given one borders on childishness - pettiness and meaness.

Again - Lindsay is a great player - and thank God Venus is still up to the challenge of trying to turn the tables on her like she had to do before. There is that challenge again. W/o a challenge is when players like Venus and Lindsay will hang it up. Meanwhile - and for the most part - they both proved that it could have gone either way. It just so happens that Lindsay has won four straight - and w/Venus winning six straight before that.

Some of Venus' so-called fans need to retire from being her fan. Move on - and find a perfect player that never loses.

Btw - a 2002 match between Venus and Serena will be on ESPNC today at 5:00 Central time. I'm not sure what match it is - but it might be the US Open.

Wrong, Venus stepped it Out!
Venus has already played longer than she originally planned, she really seems
to enjoy the game!
Good luck Venus! :worship:
