Shinobu is very impressive!

Nastya is a mystery. Strange that she is a Roland Garros champion and yet aside from that she has never even been to the semifinals of any other major clay court event (Tier I or Tier II). Strange statistic, isn't it?

I don't think Anastasia is playing with the same intensity she had last year.
She won her first major, and finished #3.
I think she's not focused enough.
I'm hoping Fed Cup will get her urgency level up.
I'd like to see some results before RG.

She said she is tired from FED cup last year but her scheldule is crazy. After this she is going play lots of events as usual.

If I were Nastya,I would take a rest for 4 or 5 weeks.

Myskina is finished as a top player. I really don't believe in her ability to win anymore. She needs to take a vacation and get a new coach too. Plus her serve is now worse than Dementieva's. She served for sets 3 times and got broken each time. Her season has been a disaster and will continue to be a disaster I fear.

Not looking forward to seeing where Myskina's ranking will be after Roland Garros. :oHer ranking won't fall. If you subtract 750 points from Anastasia's total, she drops one spot. Brhind Sveta.
Plus, Anastasia has nothing to defend before and after RG.

I always thought Brad Gilbert doesnīt want to coach women?

Not that I wouldnīt want him for her...would be good to make some changes.

Anyway: Congrats Asagoe;)

I'm thinking that might be a personality clash. Of course, Gilbert's personality clashes with most.

Plus, Anastasia has nothing to defend before and after RG.

Usually it's around 1000 points given for the slam, not even mentioning that some others will probably rise in the rankings after RG!

Myskina, donīt lose faith in her ok? She is a great player who made history last year becoming the first Russian to win a GS. This is a meltdown from all the success and she is going to turn things around.
Why do i feel like this? Because back in 2003 she played great, beating henin in Linz final and I saw the match and thought, wow she can play so well, excellent groundies, great movement, character and really fights. Then last year she was the 3rd best player in the world, ITF champ and this year she is losing but the girls are fighting harder against her, their approach is different and Myskina has to get used to this and used to raising her game against them and she will cos sheīs a champ and a future legend.
Before RG last year she said that she would never win a slam. i truly donīt think she expected this degree of success and is trying to get her head round it. This is why i love her, there is so much internal fighting, she is so human.

Stats were not bad today- too many errors. There have been bad serving days in 2005 presumably due to the shoulder but we don't know how well she served when it mattered today. Martinez and Dechy were explicable defeats given they had their best matches in ages or ever against her. What she's not doing now is winning key games in matches she should win easily or in matches where she stood a good chance like the one against Venus.. She's had awful draws but the AO one and this week were great opportunities to make the SF and the final respectively which would have helped her ranking out nicely.

She's not alone in this - an awful lot of the players in the top 20 are not doing much better. Sveta, Elena B and Elena D are as problematic. Vera is doing worse still. Karolina worse again. Patty and Francesca shouldn't be losing to the likes of Asagoe or Razzano either even if you allow for those two players improving. Momo and Venus are not looking good for wins but at least they get further into the tournament.

You wonder where her motivation is a bit. She's done moscow and the fed Cup and got her GS but she has to wait till 2008 for the next olympics. She's not far behind Elena for Russian number 2 and Elena has 2 GS Finals to defend to Nastya's 1 GS win. Sveta is stalling as well below her too. Problem is she's lost Russian number one to Maria by a wide margin without even getting any chance to play Maria in 200 and Russian number 1 looked as if it was very important to her She's either got to make 50% more points or hope Maria changes nationality at present - though beating maria might be very rewarding.

Nastya may need to beat someone like Elena, Sveta or Lindsay again to feel good - i would fancy her against any of those 3 but she has to get through the draws to get there. She's actually won 15 of 22 matches she has played since the YEC and is about to play Fed Cup again but she does need to start winning a few matches that actually count for points.

Usually it's around 1000 points given for the slam, not even mentioning that some others will probably rise in the rankings after RG!Anastasia has nothing to defend before RG, or after RG, until San Diego.
Since she's been an Eastbourne finalist, I know she win win matches on grass.
