it was a battle for Venus but she came through unscathed. hopefully she'll get enough rest to give Lindsay a challenge in a couple of hours. way to go Queen V :wavey:

I hope so too.

I think the reason for the battle is that Venus had not seen this player before and didn't know how to play her (it makes you wonder who in the Williams camp is doing the scouting:rolleyes: ). But when she finally did, she won the match.

Having said that, I still give the advantage to Lindsay, based on what I saw.

Damn. Lindsay is probably cursing the rain yesterday. Marta was playing ok yesterday. Venus just played better today. Lindsay has a battle today. I hope she's up for it.

She was much better today in the third set. She served great and I think two of the games she won at love and one she won at 15.

A ridiculous number of DFs from Domachowska, but I'm happy with the Venus/Lindsay match up as it's going to be on eurosport!

When will venus realise this isn't 2001 and Martina hingis as her main rival??!! I just hate the way she returns serve- it seems to be all or nothing with her and the reason why she had had a break point coversion of 6 out 21 in this match! She needs to show her opponents serve a little more respect and just get he ball back into play sometimes- she did the same thing last week against sharpova and didn't get abreak point until the final game...

Anyway glad she's through- maybe the fact that she's fully warmed up will be an advantage against lindsey...

thank god venus won.
would have caused major damage to my bankroll if she didn't get thru

:) Not surprising. Lindsay won't let her off the hook so easily.

Ummm NO. Lindsay is guaranteed the number one spot after this tourni and if she beats Venus then that should be enough to keep the spot after Charleston as well.

I believe Maria willl still be about 100 points behind lindsay. She has an excellent chance to catch up in Berlin and Rome, unless Lindsay does very well in the green clay.

It might actually help Venus to have a quick warm-up on center court this morning. We'll see.

Im glad Venus got through I wasnt surprised she struggled shes playing only her second match on a completly different surface so of course her game is going to be off early. However I think this warmup will do nothing but good things for Venus against Davenport today.

I wonder if the rain delay ruined Marta's chances. Probably did since Venus was able to regroup. Still a good effort from Marta. I hope Venus can take care of Davenport.

why do some of you worry about when players have a tough day, as long as they come thru that is al that matters. At the AO, maria kept dropping sets left tirhgt and cnetre, on would have thought she would fold completly to kuzy and serena but she didn't. Lindsay even dropped a set to some girl I no longer rememebr, it even looked like alicia would steam roll all over her, didn't happen.
So venus had a bad day, today is another day, another match and nothing else matters so long as she plays well today.

Well done Venus :yeah: Comfortable final set.

I think this could help her against Lindsay. Venus has been out there already, she'll be warmed up and comfortable from the start. And it's their first meeting on clay, so Venus should go in with confidence.
