View Full Version : Sharapova's Cockiness

Cybelle Darkholme

Sharapova's cockiness has always been a topic of discussion on tennis boards. As long as Sharapova doesn't start doing a Mike Tyson impersonation when she's trash-talking, I'm all for her brand of cockiness. I wish the players would do it more as long as no one is belittled or threats are made to their family (eg. Eating their children. ).

Personally, I think cockiness and trash-talking can both be linked to either having great confidence or great insecurity. Cockiness due to confidence can lead to complacency. Cockiness due to insecurity can lead to undue pressure. That's just my take on things.

you fail at spinoff threads

Your troll quality has been poor lately. I suggest you take a break and then come back strong.

I am simply responding to your crackhead post. You see sharapova is just as cocky as Serena. Enjoy.

I also find it funny that you say my post is not strong and yet you come into the thread to post.

Its just to point out that Sharapova is just as cocky as Serena. So as Martina. So is Jennifer.

Now if you have a problem with cocky then I guess you have a problem with Sharapova.

Personally I dont mind that she's cocky. Its one of the few traits I like about her.

Maybe then you should have picked someone else besides Maria. You DO realize that Serena And Maria are the most debated players here right? ;)

I like cocky players too, butI think that this thread isn't gonna do anything besides piss people off and you're just adding fuel to the fire.

That would probably be because this one is just a spin off of that original one which was created just to shift some criticism from Serena onto Maria and bring Maria fans into another arguement about Serena which they are yet to be involved in (aside from a post from Julia)
:hatoff: ;)

Whether a spin off or not, the original thread was a thread created to criticize a player, so it's the same principal. If Serena fans can take it, so can Sharapova fans. Sharapova nor her fans are absolved from criticism. If one thread gets deleted, then they both should.

..but its funny how when Serena was being criticised here the 1st thought is to bring Maria, of all players, into it when she wasnt mentioned at all in the original arguement..
..not sure why this happens :) ;)

anyway looks like its finished for now

Uhhh, this is not the Serena thread. But, if you're talking about other threads, it's probably because some Maria fan is criticising Serena. It's called tit for tat. If you say something bad about my fav, I'll say something bad about yours. That's how it works on this board. Sad, but it's true. It's not just Maria that gets brought up all of the time either. I'd say the word Williams' is brought up in a thread they have nothing do with 9 times out of 10 by people who feel the need to bash them going and coming.

Yea sorry I meant the other 'cockiness' thread not this one (or the GM in general)..:D
..a number of the regular Maria fans around here are also fans of the Williams' so I dont see a lot of this tit for tat happening in the other direction..

Really??? I do. Have you met Julia, de ja something or other, Daniel and many many others I can't name now. They may not be real Sharapova fans, just Williams' haters, but they are definitely on the Sharapova bandwagon. There are a few fans that like both, but not that many. Maybe a poll should be started to see how many there are on this board.

Sharapova should bow down and worship at the feet of the players who beat her. She especially should build a shrine to lindsay davenport for the double bagel.

Sorry, but The Williams Sisters aren't good enough historically to create that type of reaction. Perhaps if they were better committed to the sport of tennis instead of their outside interests, their tennis careers could be remarkable historically.

Maria, on the other hand, is all about tennis. At least she doesn't attempt to exploit the sport.

That's interesting coming from someone who thinks the Willies should get a "pass" by journalists, and treated differently than other WTA players.

Sorry, Denise, but Affirmative Action doesn't apply to the sport of tennis. :)

But it seems like Serena's fans like to imitate Maria's fans even more. :tape:

More bullshit. Do you honestly believe the crap you write because if you do you live in a delusional state. Both Serena and Venus will be hall of famers.

Whoops so much for that "aren't good enough historically".

Non Williams Fans need to realise that what these two girls did was remarkable, they each took tennis to a new level between them and the others have had to play catch up. During which time Serena won 6 Grand slams. They then came back from injury and trajic death of a close friend/family member, and Serena was still good enough to get 1 more slam, and is in a good position to get a whole lot more.

Think how rare in tennis it is to complete a career slam.(win Wimby, Melbourne, Flushing Meadows and RG in your career.) Serena has already got this; what's more she held them all back to back; a calender Slam. Now those, looking right back through the tennis records, are pretty special.

I don't really like her; I rarely warm to her on or off court mannerisms, not because she's black, not because I prefer to look at a Blonde teenager, I just prefer Sharapova's whole attitude, everything about her game.

But I really find it ridiculous, however much somebody disliked or hated the Williams sisters, to say they will not go down in tennis history.

so in your opinion the sister's so call semi interest in tennis beats the tour! That can only mean two things, the rest of the tour really stink or the sisters are so great. Either way you put it, it is complimentary to the sisters.;)

Hmm got to say I got to disagree with you there.

Venus and Serena are probably two of the most important tennis players of the past 7-8 years and if they stopped playing tennis right now, we would still find them in the Hall of Fame sometime of the future.

You should check out some of the names inducted into the Hall of Fame. Many of those inducted would probably only be known by the most die-hard tennis fan.

Sorry bub but your are way off on this one.
