Who will end the year as N1?
This year will be great, with the return of Henin & Clijsters, the Williams recover their level and Masha fighting for the N1, also, Lindsay, Amelie, Natsya, Sveta, Lena and Jennifer could be dangerous.

Maria or Kim i'd say.

Lindsay. In the end would it be realistic for Sharapova to win the YEC Championship again if the number one was on the line. I don't think it is. Is it realistic for Serena to make it to the finals again? I think that's pretty realistic.
I'm going to give Serena a big chance to get to number one but because she doesn't play a lot she has to do 1 round better at the French Open and US Open than she did last year.
I think Lindsay is consistent enough that she might be able to hover at or around number one to get it back at the end of the year. She's always been consistent at the Cali tournis and indoors at the end of the year. If she plays the tournis that she did last year and stays consistent that would get her close. If she played some other tournis like Eastbourne and Philadelphia and did well there then that should be enough to finish at number one.

maria will be #1 if she isn't under a limited schedule rule due to her age.

Apr 7th, 2005, 04:38 AM
most likely maria :)
possibly kim

Apr 7th, 2005, 04:42 AM
i forgot about kimmy, yes she is definitely up there, but her last comments about the tendon in her wrist moving, and her needing an MRI are not encouraging, and I don't think she'll be playing a lot of tournies outside of the big ones for a while.

Apr 7th, 2005, 04:42 AM
we also know Maria has to defend Wimbledon and YEC in her pts also so she probably has to win a slam this year to secure it.

Apr 7th, 2005, 04:43 AM
Kim has

so she is off for like 3-4 weeks

Kim, unless Serena decides that she wants it, and focus on tennis more. If so, I belive that #1 spot is her's.

I'd say its Lindsay, Kim and Maria in that order.

I feel that Kim will win a slam this year, and she is a demon on carpet, so there is no doubt that she has major points to gain there. She can gain a lot of points, even before Wimbledon rolls around.

As for the injury factor, she is coming off an injury, but with a managed schedule, she'll do fine.

On the other hand, it could be a factor for anyone of the top players. Maria could have a injury even before she hits the first ball at wimbledon, same goes for Lindsay.

if Kim continues as she does, she 'll be N 1, she hasn't any points to defend !!!

Apr 7th, 2005, 09:12 AM
Maria no doubt
possibly Lena D :worship:
Nastya :D
and Sveta :yeah:

Apr 7th, 2005, 09:20 AM
Kim Clijsters or Serena Williams

Apr 7th, 2005, 10:25 AM
clijsters or davenport

Apr 7th, 2005, 10:54 AM
I'm hoping for Kim

Apr 7th, 2005, 11:01 AM
at least 3 names should not be on the list!

Apr 7th, 2005, 11:08 AM
I think it'll be between Kim, Maria and Serena ;) depending how the GS go for each of them... As someone said Maria has a GS and YEC to defend so that won't be easy.

Apr 7th, 2005, 11:14 AM
I would love Maria but it may be a little soon so i think Serena

Apr 7th, 2005, 11:16 AM
I think it will come down to who wins the the final at the yEC. This year promises to be very close, consider this, after 4 months only maria and kim have multiple titles. Lindsay, serena and amelie have only won one title a piece, myskina and venus and kuzy and justine will defnitley be winning some soon enough. so far no one seems dominant.
Ask this question the week of the yEC.
In the race, maria, serna and lindsay are didvided by a couple hundred points, easily makeable in the next tourny played.

Hopefully Serena and I think the top 5 will look like this:
1 - Serena Williams
2 - Kim Clijsters
3 - Lindsay Davenport
4 - Maria Sharapova
5 - Venus Williams

Apr 7th, 2005, 12:03 PM
Bryanne Stewart :D

I vote for Momo out of spite!! :ras:

Whoever can win the most Slams.

Hopefully Serena ( :woohoo: )

Apr 7th, 2005, 12:28 PM
My guess is a three horse race between Kim (if she remains injury free), Maria and Serena

Apr 7th, 2005, 12:28 PM
I hope Masha, but could also be Serena. I think one of these two will reach the 1st place at the end of the year. If I have to choose one... Masha!

Apr 7th, 2005, 02:50 PM
Davenport has way too many points to defend this summer to hold on. Maria has Wimbledon and Yec to think about that's it. Kim can pick up a lot, but i do not think she will.
So Maria and Serena are the only two contenders. And Maria needs to start playing at the level that she capable of playing before i think that she can end the year at 1. She should of won IW and Miami. It should of been cake for her. Make the finals of Miami, playing good player and lose to that hack Clijsters is not cool. Get it together Maria

Apr 7th, 2005, 04:06 PM
Maria or Serena, I think. Don't see Kim winning a Slam this year and, although she could still make #1 (after all, she's done it before), I don't think it's very likely.

Belgium = Best
Apr 7th, 2005, 04:48 PM
Kim :)

Apr 7th, 2005, 05:10 PM
Tricky - i get a feeling that the grand slams will be shared again, hence the points will be shared, therefore making the difference between points very close.

People say Kim - and I agree with nothing virtually to defend and three grand slams and possibly YEC, what with all the minor tournaments which she more than likely wins, it could happen. Hopefully she can get to #1 with a slam under her belt. :)

Apr 7th, 2005, 05:22 PM
Shaparova if she can defend Wimbledon.

Apr 7th, 2005, 05:33 PM

Apr 7th, 2005, 06:11 PM
Maria has the best chance if she stays fit and can get a good result at Wimbledon.

Kim also has a good chance IF she can keep up her current level of play, but she's starting from behind.

Serena's chances depend on her winning more slams, since she doesn't play that many WTA tournaments.

As for Davenport - is she going to play the whole year?

Apr 7th, 2005, 06:12 PM
Maria Sharapova

Apr 7th, 2005, 07:10 PM
most likely: Maria or Serena

less likely: Kim, Lindsay or Justine. Whoever steps it up from this group - like Kim's been doing the past month but she'd need to do it consistently - can join the top contenders! :)

Apr 7th, 2005, 07:16 PM
I'll bet it will be someone nobody expects.

Apr 7th, 2005, 07:22 PM
I'd say Maria or Kim. Serena doesn't play as much as they do and Lindsay has too many summer points to defend.

Apr 7th, 2005, 07:37 PM
I think Maria will. I'm not sure if Kim can climb high enough to gain number one or not.
