What a match! Well done to Vera - you hold your nerve to win through!

Bad luck to Shaui Peng - she fought well but Vera was too strong in the tie-break.

Peng is a pretty good player. Yes, it shouldn't have been this close... but people are underestimating Shuai.

I have only watched Her against Masha at I think the Aussie Open, and She was receiving quite big raps at that point, but She didn't go well that day,but She seemed off Her game even though Masha was playing great.

:wavey: You're thinking of Li Na, who lost to Masha in R3 of AO

Peng Shuai is from Tianjing and beat Myskina in straght sets this year. :woohoo:

Peng played Venus at the Aussie. She beat Myskina in Sydney though, I think. One of those Aussie tournaments.

Bepa :worship: :o

She did hit 54 winners, but made too many unforced errors at crucial times

Her form is  at the moment, so we'll just have to wait and see how she performs against Elena Likhovtseva in the next round.

Vera will have a lot of trouble against Likhovtseva tomorrow unless Elena is tired from consecutive 3 set matches. Still I think Elena is ripe to pull the upset.

i saw peng BT myskina in sydney.

myskina played woefull in every area.

peng played decent from the back but did not get any points going to net/made some very poor volley attempts.

venus crushed peng at the AO.

Bepa had to save MP against Sybille Bammer in Philadelphia last year, but she managed to finally take the match in a TB. In the next match, she had a tough three-setter against Dechy. However, in the QF, she beat Jen 6-0 6-1, and then made it to the final after beating Petrova in 2.

The bottom line is that one bad match doesn't spell disaster for Bepa, as her game can fluctuate wildly from round to round :o

She lost to Kirilenko in Tokyo, and she was injured there and hasnt played any tournaments since. That was her only bad result this year.

Vera definitely needs to step it up. Clay is obviously among her best surfaces (along with hardcourts) and she should be doing well here. Again (hate to state the obvious) but she needs to do something about her mental state, because she can be so much better than just riding below the Top 10.

Bepa moved up to #10 on 4th April.
But with her talent, she can be at least top five.
