Ai Sugiyama (JPN) [13] def. Barbora Strycova (CZE)
6-7(3) 6-1 6-1

I didn't see the match, but it looks like Ai just gained control and rolled in the last 2 sets. :)

Maybe Sugiyama is starting to right the ship after a disastrous start to the season.

How good is Barbora? Wasnt she like #2 or #1 in juniors a year or two ago she was also around ranked the same in junior doubles, certainly top 5? Didnt she have decent results like a couple of round of 16s and pushing top 20 players last season?

Yea, Barbora was a Junior World Champion and she won the Australian Open Girls title back to back in 2002 and 2003 I believe. I think also has a pretty fiery temper, which may explain the scoreline of the last two sets.

A good win for Ai though! :) Hey, it's two wins in a row! ;)

Yeah, I agree. She was impressive against Myskina, Mauresmo and Davenport. Also played really good tennis at the start of the year, played Justine pretty close when Justine was still at the top.

I think a turning point may have been when she played Fed Cup for the first time and lost that close match (I can't remember who against) and it really tore her apart. I think she does have a bit of a fiery temper, and that would probably be the thing that holding her back.

Technically, she's a good player. Good serve, good groundstrokes, and she can volley.

no way but until Barbora changes her behaviour during game, there'll be no better results.... :o
