Venus serves up a bagel and a breadstick with a BP conversion rate of 100%. Her serving wasn't that bad either.:) The only time she was in trouble, if you want to call it that, was when she was serving for the match, when she was broken.

Well, I expected Venus to clean her clock but didn't think it would be so quick. I agree with a previous poster about Sucha, she's not that good. But a win good for Venus -- hope she can keep it up. :)

Well Wojket she got to three finals last year and won the title in Quebec (Tier III) - so that is why.

And why do we need six threads about this?

Well done Vee - good clean win - bad luck Martina but it was expected.

Pierce won both no? But I have a doubt about Amelia Island.

But one thing is sure Conchita Martinez won both.

Pierce won Amelia Island. I think she beat Lindsay in the final.

When did Conchita win both?

Martinez won Amelia Island in 95 and Charleston... Well she never won Charleston, but Charleston and Hilton Head is sort of the same tournament, in both case it's the Family Circle Cup but they decided to change the city. Martinez won Hilton Head in 95.

That's good enough for me.:)

So Venus and Conchita are the only active women's players to have won both green clay titles in America.:)

Thank you for the correction.:)

Tennis-Confident Venus powers through in Florida
By Simon Cambers, Reuters

AMELIA ISLAND, Florida, April 5 (Reuters) - Former world number one Venus Williams became the first woman into the Amelia Island Championship third round when she hammered Slovakian Martina Sucha 6-0 6-1 on Tuesday.

The fifth-seeded Williams, who beat her sister Serena on the way to the semi-finals in Miami last week, looked full of confidence as she romped to victory in her first match at Amelia Island since winning the title in 2002.

In front of a record second-day crowd of just under 5,000,:) Williams blasted 20 winners to set up a meeting with Polish qualifier Marta Domachowska or Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain.

Ruano Pascual, the world's number one doubles player, caused the biggest upset of the tournament when she ousted 10th seed Karolina Sprem of Croatia 4-6 6-3 6-4 in the first round.

Bulgarian Magdalena Maleeva cruised past German Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-3 6-3, while rising Chinese player Peng Shuai also advanced when American Meghann Shaughnessy retired with a back problem trailing 6-3 2-0.

Ninth seed Elena Likhovtseva of Russia recovered to beat Israeli Anna Smashnova 5-7 6-1 6-2, and Silvia Farina Elia, the Italian 12th seed, beat her compatriot Tathiana Garbin 6-4 6-2 to reach round two.

pierce and martinez have both been champions in amelia island and hilton head (pierce 1998, 2000) (martinez 1995, 1996)

venus has been champion in amelia island and charleston (2002,2004)

but hilton head and charleston are/have been sponsored by the family circle cup and despite being in different places, are actually registered as the same tourney

so in fact there have been 3 players who have won the 2 big green clay events

btw, emphatic win venus :yeah:
