View Full Version : This is the longer Lindsay has ever held the #1 ranking!

Apr 5th, 2005, 12:09 AM
In straight weeks of course... but I believe she's never been so long in the top. Since October, last time she started in October (1998) she lost it right after the Australian Open. I wonder, how many consecutive weeks has she held the #1 ranking now? Does anyone know the correct amount of weeks?

Anyway, just another thread to praise our always-amazing Lindsay who KEEPS ON SURPRISING US!!!!

Go Lindsay!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Lindsay got the n°1 slot when she reached the semifinal in Moscow last year, I remember that she needed to beat Safina to get it, but lost against Myskina in straight set... I hope that Lindsay will get it for the rest of the year, and she can do it of course!!!!!

Since '98, '03 is the only year Lindsay wasn't number one for at least a part of... no wonder she started '04 with thoughts of retirement.

You know, Lindsay first talked about retirement in about august 2003, she had an interview with a french sports daily "l'équipe". She hinted at retirement because she underwent a knee surgery, and next, she suffered from this Morton Neuroma, and didn't feel as competitive as she used to be. She even said that being n°1 requires a lot of work, a lot of training, and said that she wasn't able to train and work hard anymore. What's more, she said she would maybe retire in the middle of the year 2004, or in the end, but not in 2005, and yet she is still playing as she is n°1.
