View Full Version : Maybe the Belgians are the best after all...

After watching the performances of the top players in 2005 I have come to the conclusion that, Wimbledon apart, I can see Clijsters & Henin dominating womens tennis for the next 5 years.

I realise this is a highly questionable prediction in view of the fact that Kim has a poor record against Serena & has choked in several big GS matches, & because Justine has not yet proven her long-term fitness, or the ability to defeat Serena & Sharapova on a hard court.

Your thoughts...

I THINK you're wrong, though they will be near the top over the next 5 years if they are playing.

Talent-wise, I'd agree.

The most talented players on tour, IMO (in no particular order):

Serena
Maria
Kim
Justine
Venus

When these players play at their best, they are tough to stop.

WRONG. no one will dominate women's tennis. btw what in Henin's return (granted, it was short) gave you the impression that she would be dominating tennis for 5 years?

Two of the best....not THE best......Kim seems already to be back to her old level and Justine has shown glimpses too.......now if only Serena and Venus could go back to school: practice, practice......then we would have a tour at our hands again.

There's only one grandslam champion in 2005 and she ain't
Belgian.

When the year is over there will be 4 results that really matter...:hehehe:

I agree. But I don't think it is just a result of technique and talent, there are many talented players. I think that their success is basically a result of their maturity, their rationalism that gives them the power to analyse a situation and a player, combined with a variety in shots to handle any situation and to turn around a match that's on the brink of falling in eithers advantage.

i don't think so.
let's see what happens.
IMHO kim is gunna have problems once the russians are back, and just for the love of god i want the next semi-final in the US to be this one:
lindsay "god i want to win this last slam!" davenport VS kim "OMG, WHY CANT I WIN A FRIGEN SLAM?!" clijsters
Jennifer "this C A N N O T be happening to me AGAIN." capriati VS elena "if i can just have that last win. PLEASE if i can just have that last win" dementieva.

No one is the best right now. And probably no one will dominate for the next two years.
THe best players right now are: Davenport, Serena W, Sharapova, Kim. The only four players right now who can handle top 10 players and avoid upsets the most.
If Justine and VEnus get their act together they will be part of this group too. The other russians won't stand a chance. Some are good, but not good enough to consistently beat elite players.

I've had to credit the Belgians recently more than I have in the past.

A big deal is made of their thriving in the absence of Venus and Serena but Kim has shown herself able to beat more or less everyone else this month.

As for Justine, I was watching her against Maria in the first set and wondering how she won anything ever before she showed me in the second set.

They are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Which is a good thing :yeah:.

Shame on me for coming into yet another
one of these tired threads!

We have no idea what's gonna happen and it's
nothing but pure specualtion because anything
can happen and has happened over the years when
people tried to judge and predict all these years ahead.

I guess it's easy to do when you aren't
one of the people out their going through it day in
and day out, oh well.

Just to add my two cents on talent....

1. Serena
2. Kim & Venus
3. Henin
4. Maria

Crap...I dunno where Lindsay fits in there....Amelie will be 5th or 6th
