I never seen the final, but a few people online were telling me that Maria's game was somewhat affected by the poor weather conditions.

nah, it even cleared up towards the end and kim still won.

Both Maria and Kim were playing in the wind, so I don't know why people would say Mariah's game was affected. Regardless of the conditions, Kim played the better match and won. That's all that matters.

They said that Maria was the more inexperienced of the two handling the conditions and if it had gone to a third set Maria would have won.

I'm not a hater but maria only has one gameplan: hitting hard and that just doesn't cut... but hey you can't blame her for being unexperienced

she'll need to learn to adjust to her opponents and windy conditions. When she hits the ball right, she usually has the point, but oh the errors when Kim brought just one more ball back! :tape: simply dreadfull!

Look! I donít care who won the bleedin final, makes no difference to me. But sometimes fans do make excuses for their favourites. Like claiming they were injured or having family problems, stuff like this.
So itís possible they might have been looking for a reason why Maria did not win. But I have heard a lot of fans who watched the final mention rain delays, and high winds.

I saw the entire match. Maria came back very strong after the first rain delay (2-1 and breakpoint for Kim) but Kim took over with er great mix of offence and defense. Maria got frustrated by the wind and Clijsters bringing back so much of her should-have-been winners. When she went for her shots, Kim couldn't follow. But the thing is that not even Maria can keep up that kind of all-or-nothing game...

There was only one rain delay, and that was at 1-2 in the first set with a breakpoint for Kim (Maria won the game afterwards). And there was hardly any trouble with the wind at the end of the match.

Here we go with the "if" word again! Both players had to contend with the same conditions. Kim adapted and played better. Kim won, hands down, she even gave Maria a couple of gifts towards the end of the second set but Maria still couldnt take advantage.

Just accept the fact that Kim played the better match, deserved to win, and move on!

Before the rain delay, the wind was affecting the game of both players, Maria's more than Kim's. But after the delay, the wind didn't seem to bother them that much.

The best one could say is that the conditions made a 3-set win for Kim a 2-set win. The match-up is terrible for Maria; she's just not yet experienced enough to deal with an athletic, aggressive, dink-and-drive counter-puncher. In the first set, the conditions affected both players (Kim was having trouble, as well), but it made Maria's game even more risky than it would have been in ideal weather.

By the 2nd set, the conditions were less a factor, and it became clear that Kim would have given Maria fits on any given day. She was able to make Maria look awkward and indecisive, Lindsay-like. For those wishing the conditions were better for Maria, you'd have to admit that a win would be far from assured.

Both players played in wind...

Kim would have wins wtihout wind anyway cuz she have many shots...(more the hit hard on the lines)

First off, I saw the match live, and I don't believe that one bit. Here's why:

When Kim was serving for the match at 5-4 in the 2nd, the sun began comming out and the dark clouds had moved. At 5-5 the sun was out, and from appearance, (hair & cloths weren't blowing) the wind had resided too. If she was going to win a 3rd set in these condictions, then why didn't she simply take control at 5-5. The weather had improved and she had just broke to get back into the match. All the momenton at that time was in her favor. But...she (Masha) still didn't capitalize on the improved (sunny, much nicer) condictions.

So please, lets cease with the excuses. Kim was just better today.

Should be no shock though, because Kim IS better.

Maria got beat fair and square. I don't see the need to be in denial just because i am a fan .:)

nope not unlucky. she let too many games get away from her. the 40-15 lead just wasn't a good game for her, i believe she lost three games with that lead, which is aweful. she needs to tighten it up there.

kim definitely played better though, conditions or not. she deserves this title completely.

I agree. I'm obviously upset, and I'm sure that if she's got a better 1st serve %ge, if she hadn't been broken back in the 2nd set, if many other things had happened, she could have won it. but if did not happen. I think it's a big shame if didn't happen, but it didn't, and I gotta live with that.

As a tennis player, you need to learn how to play in all types of conditions. So no, Sharapova wasn't unlucky. Kim was the better player today. Maria still had a great tournament and should be congratulated. :)

No, Kim has a special skill that Maria doesn't possess. Kim can play in the wind really really well. Maria can't at all.

Kim induced a "how on earth can I beat that" feeling with some amazing defence at crucial points and that may have added to any frustration Maria had with the weather. Kim wins it though with some great offensive plays so you don't know how important the psychology was.

Both players had the same conditions.

Kim's game can adjust to any weather conditions and she has learnt over the years on tour how to do soo...

Sharapova game is pretty 1D and she played an awesome match against Venus and unfortunately she wasn`t playing her best against Kim. The wind did affect Sharapova more than Kim, and Sharapova looked very annoyed mentally.

Congrats Kimmy

Who said that? I don't recall anybody on CBS saying that quote. What I heard was that Maria's game is less suited for the wind, which is an advantage for Kim.

That doesn't make sense at all. Maria netted the ball more than she hit outside the lines. Kim played so fast and precise that Maria hardly had time to prepare for her shots. Kim was the better player, period.
