Okay, I posted this in another thread. I'll post it here again.
This is the first thread I saw so I'm gonna assume that this is the official one. Great match from Kim. I'm not her biggest fan, but all due credit to her. As of this moment, her level of tennis was just higher than Maria's. SHe is playing like the number 1 player in the world, and I have no problem saying that. She's a huge favorite going into the French. I'm SOOOOOO proud of Maria, words cannot describe how I feel about her. To lose 6-0, 6-0 last week and then to come back and reach the finals, I definitely think she proved her haters wrong. Kim has beaten everyone and their moms the last few weeks. There is no shame in losing to her. At least Maria gave the crowd a great match and didn't just back off when Kim was seriously getting EVERY SINGLE BALL back. I'm very excited about this year. I expect the top five at the end of the year to be Belgiums, Williams, and Sharapova. I could be wrong, but thats what this tournament tells me. Great job to all the girls!

Congrats Kim! It was clear despite some amazing points that both players weren't at their best. Tons of unforced errors but exciting nonetheless. Sharapova made some stupid shot selections though. And she tried numerous dropshots. SHe never does that and she shouldn't have against Kim. But still props for getting into the final. I think it's safe to say that Kim will be back in the top 5 in no time. She's definitely one of the best.

Well done Kimmy! :D :bigclap: Can anyone possible announce louder "I'm back"? Not even Justine could pull off a title after having been laid out for a year. Spectactual comeback, Kim. Can't get any better than that.

And congrats to Maria on making it to her nth final this year. She's recovered from tough losses very nicely. And Yuri was on very good behavior today so that's a plus too. :yeah:

Great women's final. It's so nice to have the Belgians back.

And hopefully this will shut up Myskins with her ridiculous predictions: 'A Russian will win.' Why? Because there's safety in numbers? Doesn't mean they will win all the titles. ;)

let me just say that i'm especially proud that she managed to serve it out albeit the second time. its not often you see her serving out for the title.

CONGRATULATIONS KIM!I LOVE YOU TO BITS!!!!!!

just make sure you get that elusive slam.

straight set wins over the #2 and #3 conceding only 9 games to them. and coming back from 4-0 in the in the first set against red-hot # ranked lindsay last week.

UNBELIEVABLE!

words cant express how proud and happy i am for you.

You're right that was a Fabulous point. Kim slammed that overhead like it was nobody's business. :rocker2:

I love 3-3 in the second set on break point. Kim looked like she was down and out on that point and Maria was close to the net and could've close it off, but Kim used a brilliant combination of slices and lobs to win. :o The crowd roared. I was stunned speechless.

Loved the point when Kimmy ran down that drop shot. I don't know how in the world Kim got to it before the second bounce because it seriously looked like Maria's point, but Kimmy got to it and won the point. :o

At the end Kim looked like she was tearing up. Tears of joy and disbelief. :D

Great work, Kimmie!:bounce: What a fantastic comeback she is having! I don't think Kim is going to choke in big finals any more!:D

Great fight from Maria, however. She certainly was no pushover but she does need to work on playing in poor conditions like the fierce wind today. Kim's less risky game with more spin on her shots showed her experience, and she also seemed to have more confidence than ever.

Anyone who thinks she "demolished" Maria either didn't see the match or is an idiot.

Well, I'm naturally very sad, but guess I can't complain; both players had rain delays, both had the blustery conditions to cope with, and Kim simply was the better of the two. I didn't see the match, so this is purely my guess, but can't help feeling that as Maria was able to push Kim to 6-5 rather than losing 6-4, if she could have taken it to a tiebreak, she'd have won that, and the 3rd set.. I think Maria would have been able to come back from behind. But I have no complaints, Just a bit sad. Still, she was the second best player out of a very strong field here in Miami, so that's a real positive to take out of this:)

And they said Sharapovas game isnt similar to Lindsays? Well guess that theory hasnt yet been proven, from the ground Sharapova plays a game quite similar to Lindsays and thats why Clijsters was able to handle her pace, you give Kim pace to work with and your day inst going to be an awfully nice day at the job. Besides the naysayers said Kim wouldnt handle her, yes she might have not played her best match but its more so due to Kim being across the net from her. By the way I still think Lindsay has the best ground game, nobody has cleaner bigger groundies on tour, especially if shes able to set up, you better watch out. Thats the thing Sharapova may have similar groundies to Lindsay, however they arent as consistent thats why she got the whooping from one if not the best groundstroker the womens game has seen.

Hmm so people can't have multiple favorites they want to win? How ridiculous. People can cheer for whoever they want. At the end of the tournament there is only one winner so why not cheer for your favorites, all of your favorites?

If two of your favorites meet cheer for both or pick one. This is nothing new for williams fans because we've been doing it since serena and venus have been playing each other.:tape:

This also true of people who loved both graf and monica and cheered for one or the other when they played each other.

Get over it already.

I've noticed Kim supporters have been growing as of late and I think that's great, but win or lose I've been supporting her for years and will continue to do so regardless... Kim has the distinct honor of being one of only two players I've ever rooted for against Serena- during the YEC in 2002 I was actually pulling for Kim (let's not crazy though SERENA FIRST, KIM SECOND).

I was very pleased with today's match and I couldn't be proudier of the way Kimmie has been playing. I'm holding out for my dream Slam final this year between Serena and Kim!!

Hardcore Williams fan here, but I was applauding Maria's quality and professionalism in the semis. And I root for that young woman to be successful, healthy and happy over the next decade. No problem at all doing that.

But I can't help but pray for Kimmy to win a slam this year. Any which one. And I think that she (like Venus) needs a cushion of confidence a slew of big wins provides. So keep winning Kim!

i dont understand. Williams fans have LONG dubbed Kim the "third williams sister" :) i love Kim ever since i saw her and she'll always be one of my ultimate faves. i never even thought of being negative when she beat V & S. if there's one person i'd like them to lose to its her :p she almost made me cry with her reaction after Miami...silly cow

I've got some very simple logic but I'm a simple girl:p

Venus beats Serena. Sharapova beats Venus. Kim beats Sharapova.

--> Kim beats also venus and serena 'cause she's better than the one who beat them:scratch:Oh yes, you're a simple girl, if that simple syllogism works for you. As I said, we'll see. Today is Kim's day, let's celebrate Kim and keep things "simple". ;)

Great stuff Kimmie. :yeah: She was just too good today- some of her retrieving was just  :worship:.

The conditions were a factor but you cannot use it as an excuse- both girls had to put up with it.

I'm very proud of Maria too- I had my doubts about whether she should play this tournament after she was double bagelled by Lindsay, but she proved me wrong and put in a great effort.

What does everyone think the factor was in Kim winning this match against Maria? Was it the fact that she's able to get a lot of balls back, her court savvy, i.e. coming to the net, Maria's inability to either come to the net or when she does she misses or was Kim hungrier?

Kim just NEVER gives up on a point..and some of the stuff she gets to

But I think Kim getting everything back coupled with the variety she would throw at Maria was definitely key.

Maria made a few too many UE's..but then again you have to wonder how much of that is Kim's doing, because she just forces you to go for so much in order to win a point.

Kim was definately retrieving many balls. Some retrievals were genuinely astonishing. Her movement was also very good.

I believe the wind was definately a factor too. Maria's level increased slightly (slightly!) when the wind died down.

Dunno if Kim was hungrier. Both girls were very hungry, I think.

Most definitely exciting match. I think the net game was a factor in this match. When I was watching I saw that it's hard for Maria to come in and when she does, she is not comfortable, nor does she have much technique with her volleys. Kim was very good at net and her drop shots were great. I do think that the combination of getting a lot of balls back, plus the net game made the difference in this match. Congrats Kim :D

I think it was so-so from both sides. Maria could've done better and Kim..well you've gotta like drag Kim to the net lol :p But I think her numbers show pretty good success when she was up there.

I would say Maria trying to dropshot Kim wasn't the best idea. Generally speaking that's not a great tactic against Kim.

Net play; I havent seen many of Maria's volleys, mostly because she never uses them;) but I thought those I've seen looked not all that bad, so I am a little surprised to see the comments made in this thread. I must say, trying to dropshot Kim, esp. in windy conditions, is NOT a good idea at all. Here's something from mariaworld.net(good site), which I think sums up some of the reasons Maria didn't do as well as perhaps she could. I actually think this makes far more excuses than Maria did herself in her post match interview; but it's still interesting:

"Maria has lost the final in Miami 3-6 5-7 to Kim Clijsters of Belgium in a match time of 1 hour and 37 minutes. There were 2 rain delays, 1 at 2-1 in the first set for around an hour and a very short one at the beginning of the second set. The wind played a huge factor throughout the match with both players having a lot more errors than winners (Maria 18-34 Clijsters 10-30). This is something that Maria needs to work on as she hasn't had that much experience of playing in the wind as you could tell with her shot selection, for example throwing in dropshots against a very speedy player like Clijsters. This is only Maria's second loss in a final in her very short WTA career."

That was a great effort from Kim, but lets keep in mind that she did face the likes of Serena, Venus or Justine in both these tournaments. I am not so sure if she would have won if she had faced them with the exception of Justine who is still trying to regain her form. She defeated players that she already has good records against, but well done to her and she definitely will be in top five by the end of the year.

Nooooo, SJW, didn't you know to truly be great Kim must win on both sides of the draw by beating the losers of the opposite side. Then she must beat each ball boy in a tie break with one arm tied behind her back. Then she can play the final and if she wins be considered a top player, but only if she wins in a leap year.

Only blinded Williams haters are of the assumption that Williams fans only like Serena and Venus. If you were paying attention more closely you would discover that they give their support to a variety of players also. We operate on the same basis like reasoned people, that is you have your ultimate fav then the rest.

Kim is a sweet girl and earned her wins!!! I give her great credit for playing relaxed and pressure free. If she can play this relaxed at a major then she should be a champion sooner than later. Her best shot is at the FO where it will be wide open and up for grabs. If any of my favs are unable to capitalize then she is the on I'll root for.

I don't give a damn who your favourite player is, I wasn't talking about a specific player, Kim and Maria aren't my faves, AND I JUST SAID MARIA AND KIM ARE AN EXAMPLE, I wish Dokic were that nice in defeat. Nice post!

If you take a look at the thread with the favorites/least liked players it's obvious that Venus and Serena fans don't have any common ties with whom they (or shall I say, we) support. Although if I had to venture a guess I would say that Kim ranks high up there on both camps lists of favorite players and that's been the case for some time now...

I'm sick of this William's Fans bullshit. This idiotic assumption that that Williams' Fans only root for V&S  How do I know that the people claiming to be Kim fans really are? There is a plethora of so-called Sharpova fans but really they just hate the Williams Sisters! Is anyone jumping up their ass? Who the fuck are these people to comment? Are they "real fans"?

This shit happened last week when Lindsay won. Same cheap ass, low and snide remarks! Who the hell has the copyright on who is a fan of who? There are MANY Williams' fans who have very detailed signatures of who they root for. Open your eyes fuckheads and get over your stereotyping...now I'm going to change my signature with all my favorite players to enlighten the idiots.

Lei doesn't do this either. People have a completely wrong image of him, 'cause he doesn't like the press. He's a really nice man for who both daughters are equally important and he gave them a real "down-to-earth" education.

Incredible two events from Kim :worship: She's played unbelievably well to beat the top 3 in the world in the space of 2 weeks and losing only one set in those three matches. I won't get carried away but if Kim continues this kind of form through the clay court season, it'll take a great performance to beat her at Roland Garros. The rest of the year is looking bright for Kim :D

I think that these last two tournaments clearly prove that Kim is a player that everyone needs to be watching out for. She's dangerous - always has been and always will be. She's such a nice girl; always smiling and in a good mood. That's why I love her! I really hope she can break through and win a Slam this year, or sometime in the near future. Everyone thinks that the next big rivalry will be Serena and Maria, but I think that Kim will have something to say about that. Kim can challenge anybody. Way to go Kim!

I don't know why you have such a deal about Lei Clijsters, who in fact wasnt in the US with Kim in March. Maybe you need to check your facts first.

It seems to me most of the tennis parents spend an inordinate amount of time trailing their "children" around the circuit, as if they have no other point to their lives. Lleyton Hewitt's parents spring to mind. Someone told me recently his mother is still breast feeding him! :tape:
