Kim will have match no. 14 in a row. Maria's looking downright amateur in the wind:o ...

The US Open semis and final were played in a huge wind. That's part of tennis.

I hope this delay doesn't affect Kim-- she's doing exactly what she has to do to break down her opponent :p

Isn't it very reduced by the large stadium?

Isn't it very reduced by the large stadium?

not really. it has a very open top which means that the wind even turns around. In a more close stadium the players can adjust to one direction of wind, but here it changes constantly and it's extremely difficult to settle your game to it...

It started half an hour ago but now there's a rain delay. Kim's leading 2-1 and had a break point on Maria's serve when play was suspended. Kim lost her 1st service game, but broke back and then had a love game on her own serve. There was a lot of wind out there affecting the play. Maria seemed to have more problems with it than Kim.

There has been a rain delay, players taken off court.

Hopefully the Miami sun will come out, and the wind die down. It's no fun watching error, after error....

Kims dealing with it slightly better so far.

It is OK, winds are always gusty before it rains, and it will rain for some time. After that winds will be much less a factor. Rain delay is very good for Maria.

That's imposible because the match was stopped with 30-40 on Maria's serve so she has at least 2 points

It's not raining in Southern California- today is absolutely lovely. It's bright and sunny and about 75 degrees with a nice cool breeze... :hearts:

With regards to the wind- I wonder who it hurts most? Maria has more power so should be able to hit through the wind, while Kim moves a lot quicker so she can get herself set up and adjust a lot better. Of all days it had to rain...

It was affecting Maria more because she's less experienced than Kim. It was frustrating Maria mentally.

Doesn't the fact that Maria lives in Florida suggest that she should be at least familiar with windy conditions. I would think the fact that she probably practices in these conditions would make her more comfortable than Kim.

To be honest, this logics have ever struck me as very funny. It's like asking why the hell all those tennis players who are Monaco residents never win Monte Carlo.. She spends at most 3-4 months in FL, mostly winter months, and surely, she does not go and practice when it is windy and rain..

Lansdorp said Maria spends 70% of her time off the tour training with him, in California.
Maria is bi-coastal.

Of course she wont be practicing in the rain :retard: ...but she definitely should practice in the wind. I can't immagine if she's hitting the courts to practice that she will stop practice on account of the wind. Tennis is an outdoor sport so the weather conditions will always be a factor and the top players should have experience in most playable conditions.

Apparently you are not playing yourself. No serious tennis player will practice regularly in the conditions that one does not like. Because it completely ruins your timing and your feel of the ball. You'd rather prefer to lose in bad conditions once in a while rather than risk ruining your best game. That's why, for instance , many players who don't like grass, prepare to Wimbledon practicing on hardcourts instead. They don't want to ruin their timing. Same with wind, you practice in wind, your regular timing goes off.

Maria is use to the conditions in FL so please stop the premature excuses. I take this is all about making an excuse if she loses to Kim. Well sorry it won't fly.

Actually I think she will win somehow, but Kim does has a good chance. Just wait and see and stop looking for excuses.
