View Full Version : Venus Will Win The US Open Series

I know I may be jumping the gun a little bit here, but now with Venus having her passion back for the game, and is again playing well, I predict that she'll hit her stride sometime after the French Open and go on a tear through the summer hard courts like Lindsay did last year. I can't wait for Venus to start winning tournaments again and playing like the player I know she can.

Venus has the drive and the fire back. But, two or three matches is great. I don't think it is necessary for us to jump into the US Open Series. Let's leap to Amelia Island!

yeh...this is jumping the gun a bit!

Venus has all the clay season yet and dont forget about Wimbledon! im sure she cant wait to improve on that 2nd round from last year!

But, i hope and think you are right!

Go Venus!

She only had one good win over Serena. Lets not get too excited yet. Shes still got a long way to go to show that shes got her winning mentality back.

Why oh why are fans so BLIND???????????????????????????????????????'

Last time she won a slam was 5 years ago and she hasn't shown the form that would indicate she could win a slam! Just because your are her fan it wouldn't kill you to be objective!

Hahaha, How can you predict that she will win the US Open Series? For all you know, she'll be injured.

I think so too.

That is very true, but as a fan I choose to be more optimistic.

Optimism is the way to go. Go Williams.

She has a few problems:

1. Maria Sharapova--this is an aweful matchup for Venus. Maria hits harder and more consistently than Venus, and runs much fast enough that Venus can't smack winners on the run like she can against, say, Lindsay.

2. Lindsay Davenport--this is always a tough match for both. Lindsay controls the points most of the time. When Venus had LD's number, it was because Venus would smack away winners from defensive positions. LD isn't explosive (her footspeed actually isn't that bad, but she's not quick out of the gate,) and therefore can't change direction and run for a ball that she didn't expect. However, she's worked on that a bit, and Venus has slipped a bit.

3. Venus Williams--Venus is still a hazard to herself. Even when she's playing well, her technique is so shakey that she can go off. This is not 2000/2001. Players hit harder and more consistently, and will take opportunities given. Back in the day, Vee could afford her 3-4 game mental lapses. Today she can't.
