WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - Venus Williams will join her sister Serena and top-ranked Lindsay Davenport on the U.S. Fed Cup team for its April 23-24 quarter-final against Belgium at Delray Beach, Fla.

That trio - all ranked in the top 10 - hasn't played Fed Cup together since 1999, when the United States won the team event.

Completing the squad is Corina Morariu, who forms the world's No. 2 doubles team with Davenport. They were the runners-up at the Australian Open this year.

Ninth-ranked Venus Williams, who beat Serena in the quarter-finals of the Nasdaq-100 Open on Tuesday, is 10-1 in Fed Cup play. She last played for the Americans in April 2004.

No. 4 Serena is 6-0 for her career without dropping a set, and No. 1 Davenport is 28-2. They were placed on the roster in February.

Serena has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, Venus four and Davenport three.

"This is the strongest Fed Cup team we've fielded in years," U.S. captain Zina Garrison said.

With its top two players, Justine Henin-Hardenne and Kim Clijsters, working their way back into form after long layoffs, Belgium will use Ells Callens, Kirsten Flipkens and Evelyne Van Hyfte. The U.S. has won all three previous Fed Cup matches against Belgium.

Man, I hope Justine and Kim get a change of heart considering both V&S will be there and will play Fed Cup. I remember all the shit they talked during Fed Cup '03.:D

This is great, especially for Venus, BJK is just the right person to help her with her technique on the forhand. She is the one who helped Venus's game win she went on the awesome run in 2001 and 2002.

Is BJK still the coach of Fed Cup? Thought Zina Garrison was.

She assistant to Zina. But, she's still with team, which is always a plus.

Isn't she on the list every year and then never plays? Cruel to say but this is her only chance to win anything major!

Who??!! If you're speaking of Venus, she led the Fed Cup team two times last year in a row, and she's already won four singles majors, plus 4 double majors and a gold medal.

just to be clear....neither kim nor justine is playing fed cup. in fact belgium does not have 1 player in the top 100 to face the best american team fielded in years! wish they could get serena and/or davenport to play in moscow when it counts but that will NEVER happen.

The title is already a given. Why bother holding a Fed Cup comp this year when there's at least a 99% chance that the U.S. team will whitewash whoever's unfortunate enough to get in their way? ;)

Go USA! :D

I would say that Russia has a far better chance at winning Fed Cup than the US does

Isn't she on the list every year and then never plays? No, she on the list SOME years, and DOES play. However, the way I hear t, she isn't going to play this particular tie. She's the backup for Serena and Lindsay, and doubles is Lindsay/Corinna. But the doubles part of that is rumor. The singles I read in an interview of Venus quoting Venus.

I think she WILL be playing singles and LD and Corina will be doubles. Venus didn't want to say that in her interview though.

At any rate this is GREAT news. Any time Venus works with BJK and Zina her game comes out looking sharp.
