View Full Version : Weird season; nobody has defended their GS, Tier 1 and Tier 2 titles so far...

Isn't this rather odd? Not one player due to losing early,
different schedules, injury or illness has defended Tier 1's,
Tier 2's and GS's so far?

And if I'm not mistaken the #1 seed in every event has
failed to win the title too, except Antwerp with Amelie winning.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the pattern for the rest of the
year?

Comments?

Looking at the schedule. I don't know if anyone will defend their titles for a long time. Unless Myskina starts to play like she did at Moscow, there is no way she's going to win Roland Garros. Lindsay is consistent enough to probably have the best chance next week to defend her title at Amelia Island. Venus is going to have a tougher draw at Charleston so I doubt she will win that again. If Clijsters is playing in a tourni that Mauresmo is playing on whatever surface that it may be, she will not win. Sharapova might defend Eastbourne. This pattern might go on for the rest of the year. All I can say is that the draws are tougher than they were last year. So if anyone has an off day they could pay.

Interesting observation, wouldn't be surprised to see that continue- at least for a short while...

but it's kinda cool that we are seeing different people winning different tourneys now, instead of the same maybe 5 mostly winnig (especially depending on the surface)>

Sharapova might defend Eastbourne. .

Kuznetsova won Eastbourne. I think she beat Daniela in three sets in the final. Sharapova won Birmingham, UK. I don't know what tier that one is. I think either 3 or 4.

It's late. I'm a little bit off my game. If Sharapova plays Birmingham she'll win it.

B'ham's a Tier III
Eastbourne's a Tier II, and is a much better tournie overall, but is badly placed in the scedule, being the week before wimbledon. Birmingham being a week earlier gives them a week of gentle rest and practice.
