That's my prediction. I know it's a bit early, but who can stop her? Venus and Serena? Psh. What a joke... Lindsay can't beat her on hard courts, there's no way she can beat her on clay, Jen will be just coming back from surgery if she plays the FO at all. The only people that I think are going to be capable of beating her on clay this year are Myskina and maybe Dementieva. I would add Mauresmo to this list but it's the French Open, so why bother? Hmm...who else? Henin? Nope. Oh, yeah...Sharapova. I don't know how well she will do on the clay, but she might be able to contend with Kim, but I don't think so.

Do you honestly think justine can compete with Kim the way she's playing right now? And Venus?

Ummm...if you haven't noticed. NOONE has been able to beat Clijsters in the last three weeks. At least Lindsay gave her a battle. Mauresmo got crushed. Myskina got crushed. Dechy got crushed. Dementieva got crushed twice. We'll see what Sharapova does tommorrow. The only person I think that can beat Clijsters right now is herself and maybe Kuznetsova. Who knows what might happen before the French. Clijsters could burn out.

Man, the clay court season has not even began and you're already jinxing the poor girl. Let her play Warsaw and the Italian open and see how she plays there, then wait for the 1st week of Rolland garros be over and see how shes played by then. Shes got a pretty decent record on clay and can surely play on that stuff, but lets not get carried away, lets hope she does win the French though!

I agree, as much as seeing her win RG would make me so happy after she's been in 2 finals, but let's see how the beginning of the clay season goes. So I won't get too carried away on this one, let's wait and see

JenFan75, you are a joke for thinking that Venus, Serena and Justine won't pose a threat to Kim in Roland Garros. Kim has always owned the rest of the tour but these three have always owned her especially Venus and Serena. That's the main reason for her winning streak she's beating everybody she's supposed to beat. Which makes me very happy as Kim is one of my faves.

It would be nice to see Kim win Roland Garros though. Her recent form should get her far in the tournament but how will her mental state be at that point? I personally have this feeling that Venus is going to take the French Open. She is getting better and better and by the time Roland Garros comes along she should be in blistering form, barring injury.

She is one of the best on clay but i'm not so sure about her victory

LOL @ the three you're writing off the most...Serena and Henin have a FO to their collection already  Venus had a very good year on clay last year. Kim's my slight favourite for the FO but it's not gonna be easy. Sharapova, Henin, Venus and Serena have the biggest heart and best fighting ability on tour, regardless of the surface.

serena, justine, dont know about sharapova maybe but im not confident about her abilities on clay yet against the top players. dementiea if she hits a hot streak and also kuznetsova i think have chances of contending the french open this year. kim is looking in good form atm tho but she needs to hold that form until the french which could be tough.

wouldn't it be awesome if you could take a player on her hot streak, like kim now or Lindsay back before us open, and make a double of them. And then, have them play themselves? That would be such an awesome match!

 you're hilarious.. Dementieva just proved that she hasn't got the game to beat Kim. Myskina isn't playing great this year.. yet you think these two have most chance of beating Kim

In a GS she'll have to deal with Serena, Justine and Maria. Hopefully Venus will be there too, but I don't really know what to expect from Venus at the moment (I mean she lost Antwerp very unexpected, still has her injuries coming up once a while)

I would say, Kim will get like a 16 seed or whatever, then have to play Lindsay in like the 4th round, and she will lose ;)

Do you mean Kim is NOT one of the contenders?

no i was saying these are the people kim will have to contend with to clinch the title. but was also saying kim is playing amazing atm but can she hold that form or regain it for the open and if so then she will be very hard to stop.

I believe it too.Kim is great at the moment and she will win the title for sure.Maria is very well too but not as much as Kim. :)

As Kim said herself, clay pressures her wrist the most of all surfaces. So that's a pity, cause I also think her biggest chances to win a Slam are at Roland Garros and the Australian Open.

Though I think there are still LOTS of players who're going to be able to challenge her by then! I think these would be her biggest threats at Roland Garros:

1) Maria: we'll see how the final turns out, but she's definitely a big threat on any surface, despite the fact that she still hasn't got much experience on clay (yet).

2) Serena: ditto, she didn't look too good at Miami, but she plays her best at any Slam and can reach Slam finals or even win those on pure willpower.

3) Amélie: clay's still her best surface and she's had some very tough matches with Kim on the brique pilé! I wouldn't count her out because of yesterday's total crushing: Kim was just playing out of her mind and Momo was far from her best. And yes, she DOES have mental collapses from time to time, but I have the feeling she's having them less and less, and one day she'll be able to overcome it and get her BIG win I believe.

4) Justine: she's beaten Molik and taken a set off Sharapova in her first tournament back. She said she'd already been training on clay for a few weeks this year because that surface is less tough on her damaged knee. I think with a bit of luck she could be close to top form by the time Roland Garros comes around and we all now what that tourney - and surface - does for her!

5) Svetlana: although she hasn't done that much this year, I think she's the best Russian out of the pack after Sharapova. She's proved she can play on clay and she came closest to beating Myskina last year.

6) Venus: clay was her best surface last year and she always gives Kim a very tough time, though clay is Kim's best chance to beat her.

So IMO Kim definitely would have to overcome big challenges along the road, but she's got a chance if she stays healthy and continues playing as amazingly as she's playing right now! Go for it Kim! :yeah:

She has her chance. However judging only after these last 2 weeks is absurd. It takes a bad match in a GS to end your dreams. Not mentioning some luck too.
Honestly who thought Sharapova will be demolished, the way she is playing this year, by Davenport. Not beaten, demolished. I've said this before, tennis is not calculus. Anything can happen in certain limits :) , and it will.

Myskina beating Kim on clay? Myskina sucks on clay (she just got really really really really really really really really really lucky with her draw last year. Facing three mentally fragile opponents who couldn't hit the broad side of a barnyard:o .) Myskina can't beat Kim on any surface (hasn't once in her career, retirements when Kim was leading aside.)

Dementieva doesn't seem to do well against Kim either. The person who will beat Kim on clay is Justine Henin-Hardenne, or whoever faces Kim in the final (unless by some miracle it is Amelie Mauresmo, in which case they both might lose;) :p .)

Bingo!
The assumption being made here is Serena will not get her game together, venus won't be able to compete on clay, amelie will slink away after today's loss never to be heard of again, Justine is incapable of findng form by FO, amd most important the defending champion will never come out of that'slump' she is in.

i admit before last year Myskina didn't have the greatest results on the dirt, but she doesn't suck either lol.

Oh really? Fascinating.
Anastasia Myskina is a Grand Slam Champion.
Now, champion=person who defeats all others in a competition. It doesn't say how, does it? Wonder why. Because IT DOESN'T MATTER.

Myskina can't beat Kim on any surface (hasn't once in her career, retirements when Kim was leading aside.)

I personally think it is highly improbable that Kim will win the French Open. Given her history of playing great tennis up until the Grand Slam finals................and she just came back after a lengthy sabbatical.

I wouldn't bet my money it. She's a great player with a lot of heart, but I've been disappointed too many times in the past to make that prediction. Its largely why I switched allegience to Justine. She has more an edge.
