Clijsters. Clijsters is playing at an incredible level right now after playing barely any matches since March of '04. WOW.

I agree. I can't stand Sharapova fans blocking our ears with how she's eating up the competition. I think she's playing amazing right now, but Kim has to be ranked just one step ahead of her.

Oh, easy, Kim by a lot. She just stompted Lena D 2 and 1 then Momo 1 and 0. On her third tourny back. Thats some impressive stuff there.

In two tournaments, she beats #1 in the world Davenport, #2 Mauresmo, #5 Dementieva two times, #6 Myskina!
5 wins against top 6 in two tournaments!! And if she beats Sharapova she will have beaten #1 #2 and #3 in two tournaments! Only Serena Williams is missing for a #1 2 3 4 5 6!!!

Maria couldn't finish off SW in the Aus Open, and she got bageled by Lindsay.
Clijsters is much more impressive.

this makes me feel a little better about myskina's play....she was able to get 7 games at least!!! Kim is impressive

Kim has been unstoppable since her comeback. I wonder if she is that hungry for the top spot again. I know she wants a slam and I think the French Could be it for her. Though I want Venus to win, then Serena, then Kim. LoL.

Go KIMMIE! I hope she stomps all over pova. Kim deserves the good karma after the surgery and Maria's fans need another slap of reality.

Clijsters, obviously. She has (so far) lost one match and that was to Venus, but since then, she has been on fire. With this type of play, I see her back in the top ten before the French Open.

I thought Sharapova was quite impressive against Williams...
But Clijsters is just... I don't know how she does it. Amazing!

So, the Final is exceptionally good. Grand Slam worthy if you ask me, looking at the course of this tournament!

I just hope the girls can show us a Final that has the level of tennis that it deserves! And well, it appears to become just that!

:yeah:

Clijsters. She's been just on such an impressivle and incredible roll there, and she deserves it. Beating Davenport, Mauresmo, Myskina in her first tournaments is a great accomplishment, plus Dementieva twice. It weren't only just wins, most of them were truly spankings.

I agree that she will be back at the TOP10 before Roland Garros, but that depends on how many tournaments she'll play.

Go Kimmie!

She is supposed to be playing all Tier I tournaments until the French, but I don't think she is entered in Charleston.

Kim is my pick, as everyone else in this thread has stated. Her comeback has been phenominal and if she beats Maria tomorrow... there's just no words that can describe how impressive that is.

I have to give props to Maria as well though, cause she withstood a comeback from Justine Henin and then played an excellent match and finished off an in-form Venus in straight sets, right after Venus thrashed Serena for the first time in ages.

Both are playing extremely well. It's a gonna be a great final. :D

Kim beat Dementieva twice, Davenport, Myskina, Mauresmo. But lets be real - she owns all those players for years. She does not own Williams sisters, she does not own Henin. They own her. Players with powerful serves, excellent movement and aggressive hardhitting styles. Such as Sharapova.

Tough to pick against Maria, but Kim is just impeccable right now.

In a couple of hours we will se whom punters/bookies will pick. And those guys put their money where their mouth is. My prediction is, they will install Sharapova as a favourite, though probably at narrow margin.

Whoever they pick as the favorite, as you said, will be a very narrow margin. Maria will likely be the slight favorite, numbers wise. Very slight.

Excellent movement isn't just about having speed.

Maria has excellent footwork, and decent speed for someone her size. She certainly gets to a lot shots hit her way; and her excellent footwork, allows her to set up her shots perfectly anywhere on the court. :D

If she does have a weakness, it's her ability to close to the net quickly. But I find that's a problem that most power baseliners have in general.

I think both deserve credit for getting this far. Maria had to put away that horribly embarassing loss to Lindsay just weeks ago. But Kim's had to comeback form a career threatening injury. I wish them all the best. May the better woman win! :)

Sharapova. It's great that Clijsters is obviously back but what made anyone think that Clijsters wasn't going to do what she's doing now. She's always been very consistent. The problem is it's all mental for her. She's never won a slam and I don't know if winning like this now will change that fact until she does it herself. I know people hate this but Sharapova won Wimbledon at 17. She can only get better. Clijsters plays like this all the time. Unless she comes to net more I don't see what else she can do to her game to make it any better. It's all mental for her. Like Mauresmo who seems to not be able to take the number one after having 5 chances in 5 months, Clijsters has to take the slam away from someone like Serena did this year. She has to want a slam enough to take chances and go for her shots all the time especially when it's 5 all in the 3rd set.

I actually want to see how she does against one of these 3 players who I think would be the biggest challenge. But very impressive  , she beat so many top players in the past few weeks, it's just unbelievable. :worship:

They are both very impressive. But let's not forget one thing, Kim is tired and this can be a big factor in the final so we'll wait and see.

Kimmie without a doubt. :bounce:
I was comparing some matches of 2003 too now, and it seems to me that Kim hits the ball harder, moves faster and is just tougher in general. Her comeback is amazing. I think the ultimate test will be for her to beat Henin of the Williams sisters in a upcoming tournament. Then all those sceptics will have to face the music that Kimmie is back and better then ever. :bounce: :bounce:

At this moment Kim has the edge.

However she's only been back a while. Masha has the better record of consistent high performance over a long period, which Kim hasn't been able to show yet.

???????? :smash: :banghead:

How could she ? She has been out for almost a year.

Starting 2003 she only lost against Venus, Serena and Justine (exc. Krasn. and Dokic). Last year she was 14-1 (loss to Justine) before her injury. This year she is 15-1 (Venus).

Is there a pattern to be seen ?

Masha doesn't even come close to this kind of consistency.

And I don't understand why people are saying that Maria is a better player is on the big stages than Kim. On what is that based (that win at Wimbledon !) ? As far as I can see she lost this year to Serena (just like Kim did in 2003) at the AO. Where is the difference ? Kim won the two Master finals that she played (including giving tennis lessons to Serena and Mauresmo).

BTW : The last time Kim and Sharapova met, Kim gave her tennis lesson (just like all the rest not named Williams). I haven't see anything that made me think that all the others have improved in the slightest bit, so why should Sharapova be different. Justine was out of shape, but still managed to fight for more than 2 hours.

Maria. The fact that Maria's game is so high risk and that is executing it so well to have only lost two matches (and it may have only been 1) is more impressive to me.

Kim's consistency has been an asset of hers since she started playing IMO, so I did not expect her to struggle at all. Yes she has exceeded expectations, but when you look at her game, there is nothing fundamentally wrong.

Also, the way Maria has played this week alone after a 6-0 6-0 loss and Landsdorp claiming she is burnt out further testifies how gritty Maria is.

Great matchup for the final. Maria will take Kim out IMO.
