Here is what it will look like in my opinion

1. Serena/Sharapova: it depends on what kind of shape they are both end towards the end of the year.

2. Serena: I just think that Maria has more energy right now.

3. Davenport

4. Amelie

5. Kim/Venus: Who ever is the more consistent after Wimbeldon

6. Justine

7. Kuztnetsova

8. Dementiava: Yes she has a lot of points, but I think she will loose earlier in tournaments now dew to the fact that Kim and Justine are back, and Venus is playing better. And it doesn't look like that serve is going to get any better.

9. Alicia Molik: she is going to get to the 16s consistently.

10. Myskinia: she has to many points to denfend at the French and at other tournaments.

I think Justine can possibly be back in the top10 as well. Since she has nothing BIG to defend really and she can compete with the best of them! :)

I agree with most of that, but regardless of whomever between Kim and Venus is the most consistent after July, they both should be in the top 5

I definately think that Kim is going to make the top 10 in there somewhere by the end of the year.

Totally agree with this list. I think Maria will make it to number one simply because she plays more than Serena and has played extremely well for the last few months. :)

My Top 10 prediction:

1) Sharapova
2)Lindsay Davenport
3) Serena Williams
4)Mauresmo
5)Kim Clijsters
6)Kuznetsova
7)Dementieva
8)Justine Henin-Hardenne
9)Alicia Molik
10) Myskina

My reasons why....
Sharapova and Lindsay are just too consistent. Serena's lost this week really hurts her chances to get to number 1. She will have to win the French to catch up now.
Mauresmo is consistent but to expect her to have the year she had last year with Clijsters and Henin-Hardenne back is asking for too much.
Kim Clijsters has everything to gain now.
Kuznetsova will finally play well and do better at Roland Garros and Wimbledon than she did last year.
Dementieva is consistent enough most of the time and she is one of the biggest opportunist there. If someone is having an off day then she'll take advantage of it and their draw.
Justine has some points to defend but she seems to be playing well enough to get back in the top 10.
Molik is streaky. She'll have a good French and Wimbledon.
Myskina will have an off year for her but she'll find ways to win some matches.
Problem is her schedule was so hectic last year that she will lose points even if she does well.
Ex. Myskina will have to choose between defending her points at Sopot, Poland and San Diego, CA since this year they are the same week. Even if she happened to win one of them she would still lose some points.

you all are simply placing momo out of the top 10.... that's a little harsh isn't it????
she's a big girls!
plus, don't forget that if lindsay wins USopen - she'll retire.
JennyCap should return as well.
that said:

1. lindsay if she stays.
2. momo - and another missed slam final too.
3. serena - without another slam though.
4. sharapova - DUE TO INJURY. she's gunna hurt herself, you'll see :(
5. kuznetsova
6. kimmy
7. elena D
8. justine.
9. vera/nadia.
10. capriati hold to that top10 position, if she doesn't retire.
11 and 12 in case of americans retiring - russians battling strong - myskina, bovina, likhovtseva, vera/nadia (the on not in 9th), and perhaps even linetskaya or safina, depending on how they cope with clay.
moreover - russians will have 16 seeds by the USopen.

I think Serena will be number 1, because I think she has the motivation to complete a Grand Slam. She is really pacing herself during her matches, and I have seen a lot of confidence in her as of late. I think she will catch fire around April and will go on like a 30 match win streak. so...she definately has more of a shot than anyone to completely dominate for a long period of time. so...she really could be YE #1

I'll do top 15, since there is a lot of depth at the moment. Never before have there been 12 players this strong. This will be the season of almost no injuries....

1. Maria Sharapova - she'll make at least two GS finals
2. Kim Clijsters - she's going to dominate the tier 1's
3. Serena Williams - will be up and down, but doesn't have as many pts to defend
4. Amelie Mauresmo - consistent yet again
5. Lindsay Davenport - hard-pressed to defend California hardcourt pts
6. Justine Henin-Hardenne - will play a lighter schedule than normal
7. Svetlana Kuznetsova - will drop off bigtime but doesn't have as much to defend
8. Venus Williams - will make a GS semi but her game is just not up to par
9. Elena Dementieva - won't make GS finals but will have more consistency
10. Alicia Molik - will keep improving and has new GS pts to pick up
11. Anastasia Myskina - SHOULD move up (many tourneys with few pts to defend), but she's deteriorated rapidly
12. Jennifer Capriati - prediction: will make US Open final; if she can play more in the summer, she could be top 7
13. Ana Ivanovic - impressive game + rapid improvement + few pts to defend = top 15
14. Nadia Petrova - will lose US Open pts
15. Daniela Hantuchova - not spectacular but has pts to gain

Outside top 15: Zvonareva (her form is way off), Vaidisova (has more pts to defend than Ivanovic), Sprem, Schnyder etc.

considering patty has like a 300 points lead over number 14, is having the best year of her career (castano loss was thanks to wind and inevitable bad match), and has little defend from red clay to zurich i don't see her falling out of the top 15

but for 1. you go Sharapova/Serena
then for 2. you say Serena- i just think maria has more energy etc
why couldn't u just say 1. Sharapova?

She's 13 now, right? Well the Belgians should pass her, so she's already down to 15. Other players also have few pts to defend, like Hantuchova, so it's possible...

honestly, the rankings haven't really meant much lately in women's tennis..........i mean think about it..........none of the last 4 grand slam holders are even 1 or 2.....something is seriously wrong with that.......obviously if serena dedicates herself to a healthy tennis schedule this year and she wins at least 2 more majors than she is number 1.........and if serena doesnt dedicate herself then i would expect sharapova to end number 1 b/c she plays the most and is at a consistently high level each and every tournament and she doesnt appear to ever be injured

Barring injury, Sharapova will end the year number one.

Serena will be in the Top 5 and Venus will end the year better than she did last year.

Clijsters will be in the Top 3. :)

Just my opinions, folks. :)

I heard Martina Hingis say on TV in Miami that she thinks Kim will be number one at the end of the year. I will take her opinion.

Martina also commented on the fact that "Kim has moved up from 130 to 100, something like 50 places." :tape: :o

No, I agree that if Kim stays healthy, she could definately finish #1...provided she has some 130 odd points to defend for the rest of the year.

Wait and see, Myskina will finish in the top 10.

1 Elena Dementieva - yea i no she has lotsss of pt to defend, but as Belgians and Williamses are back, she's gonna improve especially her serve.

4 Serena Williams
5 Lindsay Davenport
6 Venus Williams
7 Amelie Mauresmo - 16 06, 26 26 :tape:
8 Svetlana Kuznetsova

1- Serena Williams - she has so much points to gain, from the clay season, from her points last year (QF-Amelia, SF-Rome QF-Paris), Summer hardcourts, 2nd round lost to Jidkova.

2- Maria Sharapova- If she doesnt get injured, i mean shes tall, played about 20 tournies in 12 months. Could more in Clay n Summer.

2- Kim Clijsters - She might be able to atleast reach 2 Slam Finals this year, she favors all the surfaces, excels in all of them and doesnt get tired, I mean if a tired Kim Clijsters still won Miami playing 14 matches in a row...then...I mean theres really little history of her getting tired.

4- Venus Williams - If she continues her Antwerp-Miami form she could be reaching SF-F in events she entered and atleast quarters at each remaining slams. And one of her fave tournament, Acura which is now a tier I, she could gain more of points in the Summer in those events which she plays good at.

5- Amelie Mauresmo - When players play their best, shes usually at 4-6 range. Likely to defend only ONE of those 3 tier Is she won last year, but she still will do good in lots of tournies.

6- Elena Dementieva
7- Svetlana Kuznetsova - WAKE UP GURL...!!!

8- Justine Henin- Maybe due to limited schedule.

9- Anastasia Myskina

10- Alicia Molik
11- Nadia Petrova

12- Patty Schnyder

If Lindsay hasnt retired by then, then I would put her to number 4 moving Vee to numero 5. Svetlana still hasnt found her 2004 form where she has lots of "energy".
