In 2004, Maria's best result before RG was a semi in a Tier III.
Maria is still at the very beginning of her career.
This is her first year where she starts January in the top 30.

All anger aside, Maria played the match of her life. I've seen her play amazing tennis before... but not carry it on through an entire match, and she did that today.

She's been very very very tough and consistent... one of her best matches!
Very solid on serve and great in rising form 0-40! If she plays like today, she will take the final! Awesome!

Nice words, bandabou.

Masha knew she had to play hard and solid today to beat Venus. She knew she had to be fully concentrated and businesslike - and that's what she was able to do.

Keep it up against Kim or Amelie!

Thankfully, she'll be 18 in a few weeks so we can trash that "excuse".

I think MAria played well but she pretty much only won cuz she benefited from a few lapeses from VEnus.

Vee had more winners, more aces and an equal winner/UFE ratio than Maria. Had she not played those two bad service games and a few loose returns the story might be different.

But in tennis, it comes down to who executed. Even though I dont necessarily think Maria played better today, she always executed and never faulted, while Venus faulted when it really mattered (5-4 1st) and missed her opportunities in the biggest stage (last game.)

No need to say anything, she just got Sharapovarated.

Sorry if i borrowed the term from someone.

Just give Maria the credit, she could have lost if she had that so called "lapses" too, but its part of the game and being the best player is to be able to play the big points.

Maria is just too damn good today!

I've seen it used differently. My personal fav is Sharapovanated. However, Sharapovarated is nice as well :)

I guess we didn't watch the same match because Maria dominated Venus with her service game. Venus didn't get her first break point on Maria's serve until the last game of the match. Venus never broke Sharapova's serve.

Sharapova served Venus off the court today.

If you don't believe me (I watched the match) check out the stats of %points Sharapova won on her own first and second serve.

It was an extremely impressive performance. Now, assuming Kim comes through, if Maria can beat her, she will be the champ in a lot of people's eyes. But beating Kim will be a taller order than taking out Venus.

Venus and Hyperova first serve percentage were the same:rolleyes: Face it, Hyperova fans know in their heart of hearts that Venus stunk it up when it mattered most.
