From V&S fans:
I was watching the Daily Buzz which is a morning show
based in Florida and the guys reported that V&S will have a new
reality series which will debut this summer for the ABC Family Channel.

It will follow their lives on and off the court. Their daily lives, interactions
with friends and family, and finding their way in the real world.

can't wait to see it!

I guess it's better than nothing, but Serena totally deserves her own reality show on MTV! Her ratings would be phenomenal and totally help tennis' popularity in the younger age demographic.

I suppose I can always hope this thread is a hoax. This is just SO inevitable. Do we really NEED another reality show? If we do, how about a reality show on life in Red Lake, Minnesota? Maybe we'll figure out why AMerican teenagers are turning to mass-murder.

I can never get enough of Venus, Serena and the Williams family on television so this is terrific news. I've actually thought of them as hosting a reality show that I call The Prodigy. It would be in the format of The Contender with the end of each episode being an actual match between the two that were up for elimination. I wish Venus and Serena weren't so busy because I think this would be a lucrative venture for them...not that there is shortage of lucrative ventures in their lives.

BURBANK, Calif. (AP) -- Serena and Venus Williams will be starring in their version of a tennis reality show.

The sisters' off-court lives -- their family, friends and the glamour of big-time tennis -- will be featured in a six-episode show that is still untitled but set to premiere on ABC Family in July.

"The series will provide our fans with an up-close, inside look at our lives away from the tennis courts," Venus Williams said.

The sisters have won 11 major single titles between them and are competing at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. Serena is ranked No. 4 in the world and Venus No. 9.

Serena Williams said she and her sister welcome the chance to "branch out into a new medium."

This is fantastic!! http://deephousepage.com/smilies/alc.gif

It was definitely inevitable. But honestly, ABC will need a more than six episodes to cover the life of just one sister, let alone two.
I hope that they also show some key matches with top opponents during their tennis scenes. http://deephousepage.com/smilies/clap.gif
THANKS FOR THE INFO! :wavey:

Personally I detest reality shows and though I like to see Venus and Serena all the time, I'd prefer more focus on the tennis. I want to see Venus improving; does she really need this distraction?

I think ABC is only doing 6 episodes, just to see how the ratings would be. Or it could be, that's all Vee & Ree would commit to. Either way, it's gonna be great! (If MTV's Serena's Diary is anything to judge by)

Besides, If Nick & Jessica can do it, then certainly Venus and Serena can. :hearts:

Too bad ABC Family isn't a Bittorrent channel. I'd love to have it in HD to burn to DVD.

I'm sure the show will do well. MTV showed Serena's diary so many times, *I* actually got sick of seeing it. A lot of people are curious about how they roll. I just hope it isn't 22 minutes of "Daddy..." or them loving up those lucky ass dogs. :(

Can tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams score a ratings ace?

That's what ABC Family TV is hoping for as it unveils a brand-new reality series starring the sibling tennis champions.

According to the network, the yet-to-be-titled series will follow the sisters around and unveil the details of their formerly private personal lives.

"The series will provide our fans with an up-close, inside look at our lives away from the tennis courts," Venus said in a statement. "We're very excited to branch out into a new medium," added Serena.

The six-episode series, which will bow in July on the family-friendly network, will feature the dynamic tennis duo "coming of age, as they find their place in the world outside of tennis," per a release from the network.

Between them, they have 11 major singles titles. Currently, Serena is ranked at No. 4 on the pro circuit and Venus is rolling in at No. 8, though both have held the top slot at one time or another.

It appears that the sisters aren't satisfied with just breaking into television, however. They have also co-written an book for pre-teens called Venus and Serena: Serving From the Hip: 10 Rules for Living, Loving, and Winning.

"It's a great book for teenage girls who deal with different issues," Serena said in a statement. "Growing up, I would have loved to have had such a positive role model to look up to and try to be like and try to emulate. We love having that opportunity to say, 'Look, you can be like us; you can be successful and at the same time have high morals and high self-esteem and be a very nice person at the end of the day.'" Lest fans forget, the Williams sisters are still playing tennis. This week, they're taking the court in Key Biscayne for the NASDAQ-100 Open. Both sisters won their matches Sunday and are moving on to the next round.

The more I think about this reality show idea, the more I consider it a genius move. Following sports athletes during their 'come-back', with the possibility of one reaching #1 soon, and the other on the rise, is not a new idea. People are always discussing their match readiness, and what they do to prepare, or how they don't practice properly prior to matches. I'm willing to bet that this will be watched by fans, non-fans, and new prospective athletes just to observe their training regimen. Their may even be a possible docu-movie made with the extra footage shot.
But I 'm getting ahead of myself here. I suppose the results have yet to be seen. ;)

i dunno about all this overexposure. look what it did for the Osbournes. there comes a point at which no matter how much you like a person, you can get sick of seeing them all the time. yes it's a brilliant move by whoever stands to gain financially from this decision, and it's probably gonna add to the popularity of tennis; and i suppose the exposure can't hurt Serena's acting career. but i am not too keen on this kind of excessive exposure for anyone, no matter how much i like them.

What amazes me about these girls is that they have SO much other stuff than tennis going on with them. They play half the tennis as these girls on the WTA tour and still win grand slams and make it quarter finals, semi's and finals. And if they happen to loose they barely loose....thats why I respect these girls so much. I tip my hat to the Williams sisters I cant wait till the show.

They seem to be getting lots of publicity about it already with people getting ready to watch. I heard it on CNN and PTI and Michael's comment was "I will watch and I have never watched any reality show before". I'm sure as the date draws closer they will be on tv promoting it a lot especially if they go on to win more slams in the year.

I'm not a big reality fan either, I only watch three such as idol, top model and amazing race but I will have to add a fourth because I would like to get a close up of how they interact off the courts.

BTW I can't wait to watch Oprah today!!! Stay tuned for the "hater bashing" next. :)
