View Full Version : Is it just me, or does Serena seem a bit out of shape?

Not as far as looks go...but it seemed that if Shahar could have somehow taken that to a third set, Serena would have folded. Serena looked absolutely exhausted out there, taking lots of breaks in between points and huffing and puffing the whole time. She was the one in control of most of the rallies too...

Note, this is NOT a hater thread...Serena and Shahar put on a wonderfully entertaining match. I'm just wondering how Serena will do late in a third set at this tournament if it gets to that point.

Serena seems to go to hyperventilating when she's excited or the match is close(r than she expected).

I spoke with someone in the area and they said that the humidity is terrible,so it's hard on your breath.

Fair enough, I'll give her that much...but even still, Shahar looked fine out there.

yeah. humidity is awful in Miami, but Serena is used to that type of weather, isn't she?

But I think she's sort of taken on this looking like she is tired and with this expression on her face that she is suffering or whatever that look is. I don't take it too seriously. I think what happens during the points is the telling factor.

I don't think she's in the best match shape of her life....no but I thinks she's in shape.

Oh, and the breathing heavily between the points: Coria breathes very deeply between all the points even at the beginning of the match. He isnt' tired. He's just keeping good oxegenation.

I don't think she's gonna lose matches due to being tired..

And she still lost. So regardless of the shape Serena's in, she still be a fine Peer. I didn't take it as much of her conditioning and shape as the weather (of which the commentators noted affected both players) and her own frustration of her own play, her body language is telling of when Serena's upset with her play and it was no different today.

I have seen her look like this many times in the past where she pulls through anyway.

I thought she was out of shape in Australia but she still won the tournament. IMO, Serena has a very athletic body type that allows her endurance to stay at a pretty high level.

I actually feel humidity makes Serena sluggish in any match. We have all seen her play in this manner when it humid. I will also agree that her body language and facial expressions makes one believe she is tired. However, Serena is a perfectionist and is just dissapointed in the way she plays. She hits too many UE's and knows that she is not playing that well when she does this.
