View Full Version : "That bitch tried to hit me!" is what Serena mouthed...

late in the 2nd set after she stretched Peer wide and Peer almost got the ball over the net right at Serena! Talk about Jekyl and Hyde! She seemed so calm and collected after the match. But she was definitely yelling "C'mon" at Peer's unforced errors, so non-Sharapova fans can now get off Maria's back for doing that.

she did say that she tried to hit me, and called her a bitch...but she didn't C'mon her UE's you're a liar. She c'mon'ed Forcing shots for FORCED ERRORS not long balls or netted balls or DF.

You're a shit starter. Besides, I see nothing wrong with what Maria does on court. They are pumping themselves by any means necessary. But she did stare and say, "Bitch, tried to hit me!" I fell out Laughing. But she asked at the end of the match and said sorry and thank you.

Tha would make sense if ONLY Serena fans had an issue with Maria's fist pumps, then you could say, "Your favorite does it, so stop being hypocritical." But the same people (other than some Williams fans) who hate Maria for being loud and fist pumping hate Serena for the same reasons.

You are attempted to indict Williams fans implicitly with the "Serena does it too," but its not going to work. More than Williams fans hate Maria.

C'mon ASAP. I doubt Shahar is so sensitive that she'd be upset about that. In fact, she should be thrilled that she got Serena irritated because it means she was playing well. She can adore Serena all she wants, but her purpose on the court is not to get Serena to like her back, but to try to annoy the fuck out of her and beat her.

Retrievers with no pace bother serena. 1st round at US Open lost 1st set to Loit and barely won the 3rd 7:5, won that slam. Next year US Open won her 3rd round match at Wimbledon 7:6 7:6, won that slam also. Reyrievers bother Serena.

:haha:
The 1st round was at the Aussie Open and Loit is anything but a retriever with no pace. She's got a power topspin forehand and crazy slices on the backhand side. She caused Serena to make a lot of UE's by exposing her footwork, not by bringing balls back. Wimby was Els Callens, nowhere close to a retriever either. Els served and volleyed and moved Serena around. Serena has trouble with players with variety, she destroys players who just fluff the ball back.

Serena didnt seem like she wanted to be out there.. She had pretty much no intensity.. except for a few points.. Her play today reminded me how she played against Capriati at the French and US Opens last year.. she would just guide the ball back and use none of her power and thats y she lost to Capriati and that is definitely why it took her sooooo long to win today

i think she wanted to be there, it was really humid, her footwork was poor, she looked sluggish. one thing serena cannot do is just guide the ball back unless she is willing to run and hit a good shot on the run, which she hasn't done lately

It's mostly private homes (not appartment buildings)

Condoleezza isn't a bitch. :( But I agree with you about the heat of the moment thing. In fact, I said that in my post, but it got lost in all the emotion of someone saying something "negative" about Serena...which I wasn't. I was trying to defend Sharapova and her fans by demonstrating that ALL players...even Serena J. Williams...get emotional on court. I get emotional on court. If one doesn't then one isnt' likely to win very many matches. Tennis is an emotional sport.

as far as I'm concerned what I'm saying is no one knows what she said because we didn't hear it and barely saw it....speculate all you want but don't act like it's fact.
we all know serena isn't an angel when she is on court. She has been known in the past to let out a curse word or two. So its a pretty safe bet that if she mouthed something that looked like bitch, its almost certain that she said it. I just don't get why fight this battle. Some people are stupid and start stupid shit like this was rude . I don't understand why its such a big deal to begin with, i love it when players swear on court. it shows that they actually care whats going on in the match. Swearing in my opinion is apart of sport. It shows that they get mad when they lose a point or when they make a mistake. my only problem is when someone does it to someone else, thats wrong.

Uh it wasn't THAT difficult to read "Fuck you" from her lips when she played Loit.

I haven't seen this match so I can't comment. Wouldn't be surprised though if she said that.
GoDom hasn't taken his/her meds today and as usual gets everything wrong. Serena did not say "Fuck you" in her match against Loit, she said "Fucking bitch" to herself, about herself. And, you didn't have to read her lips, because she said it loud enough for the world to hear it. Lying again.

She's from a place called Macabeem-Reutwhich is south-east to Tel-aviv and it's close to the territories.. but on the Israeli side.
It's mostly private homes (not appartment buildings)
it's a small place, quite peacefull actually..been there once.
I guess it's about half an hour from Tel-Aviv as you said.
Crossing the whole of Israel from north to south isn't more than maybe 6-7 hours :)

Serena fans were on Sharapova's back for fist pumping and come ons because she was playing a injured opponent who was throwing in 60-70 mph serves then she fell to the ground like she just beat a healthy opponent then her father ran on court like she just won a match against a healthy opponent. Nothing in this match is similar to those circumstances...Now why other fans are mad at Sharapova about is between them and Sharapova but that still has little to do with this match.

I missed the match, wish I would have seen it.

I'm a huge Williams fan -- I've met her and hit with her and I've watched her since her debut, and I must say that I've always been impressed with her attitude both on and off the court. I've never known her to be rude in that way or to even use inappropriate language, so I must say I'm disappointed in her if she did in fact say that, but at the sound of it it's not as if she directly called Peer a bitch, you know?

I guess things were pretty tense at the moment.

I'm giving Serena the benefit of the doubt here. I don't believe she'd attempt to deliberately hit someone in front of a crowd and cameras. Plus, I'm sure she knows that because she's so damn famous, any small controversy involving herself would automatically become a huge issue in the press.

EDIT: Hmm. Seems I misread/misunderstood the situation. Anyway, I don't think either player made a big deal about the match in their post-match conferences, so I don't see why this should be a big issue amongst the fans as well. I mean, there are at least 3 separate threads about this already! Give both girls a break please!

Oh wow you know I've studied speech Therapy too...:o

How does this prove you did or didn't?

Of course it doesn't prove I have studied speech therapy. That would be impossible to do without my transcripts.

You are free to believe it or disbelieve it. I really don't care. You asked me what special background was, and I told you.

But as I already said, it doesn't take studying speech therapy to know that a b is formed differently than a w. You already know that.

Bitch, botch, batch, butch, are all formed much the same way with only the vowell differentiating. The motions of the lips in forming vowell sounds is much more subtle (at least when Americans are speaking english; the English tend to produce more distinct vowels although they pronounce vowels differently than do Americans.) than are consonants. If you had slow motion and a good view with someone articulating you could possibly pick up the differences in these words. The "i" sound would call for a bit more compression and drawing back of the lips while the o and a sounds would be a more open mouthed position and the "u" would be pronounced with the lips protruding immediately after the b sound.

I realize that you won't ever believe I've studied speech therapy, but then again, you want me to believe that you believe "witch" looks like "bitch"

Sorry, but you made me laugh and I laughed even more when you wanted to write me off as just one more poster talking through my hat.

I wouldn't call this type of behavior common with the Williams'.

I talked to a friend who watched the match and then watched the press conference. She said that the interviewer asked Serena what she said at the net and Serena said "Great Match." LOL@ all this nothing:lol:

It was a fun match-well played from both ends-and if Serena got a bit upset who cares?

After the match Serena compared Peer to Sanchez-Vicario-which is good for another laugh-as Sanchez got really upset at Serena in 1998 for (in Aranxta's eyes) trying to take her head off with a passing shot. It pumped Sanchez up and she went on to win.

Serena was about 17 too:)

absolutely disgusted with Williams... to think of it, I pursuaded a group of my friends to watch tenni (not fans, just to give it a shot) and all of them were absolutely   about Williams behaviour. It was a total disgrace that a champion like her would fight with an unkown junior that way.

Agreed, I had some people at my house watching that aren't regular tennis watchers and they were shocked when she screamed at Peer across the net after that one shot, and then shocked when she seemed to be confronting her across the net. YUCK.............

Damn my grandfather for insisting that I watch "Lethal Weapon 3" with him. I tried so many times to turn away to ESPN to catch this match, but it was a no go (I saw a few rallies here and there though)I didn't see it this infamous thing, but I just chalk it up to the passion of the game. Sure calling someone a bitch is a bit an the 'not hot' side, but so is punching in basketball and wailing on some guy with your hockey stick.

Somewhat wrong, but that's just how to game is played. I refuse to make any value judgements about Serena the person because of this, and likewise, Serena the athlete doesn't even get a slap on the wrist....

Do you think there's a chapter in the new W/S "how to live your life gracefully" entitled "when its appropriate to use the term 'bitch'?"

If a large cohort of the W/S fans hadn't made out recently that they should write a book because they are such role models and hadn't gunwhipped me for suggesting otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered with this thread, because I've seen/heard just about every player swear or be obnoxious on court in some way or another. But as the W/S fans insist that Serena is a huge role model for everyone, I really do think she should NOT be inferring that anyone is a bitch in ANY circumstances!

if she DID say it (and i didn't get the match) she shouldn't have said it...on the other hand...i swear and curse all the time in competitive situations on court, yet it's to myself and my level of sportsmanship to the opposition is always high regardless if i let fly verbally on myself. i'm not going to stop being Serena's fan for using the "b" word, even if she claims to be a JW

Why is it wrong to say C'mon when you win an important point??

Exactly!

Like for me, it has been a habit to say "nice" when my opponent hit an error on my serve.

I always thought its rude, so after saying it, i usually look back at my opponent and raise my hand as if asking for an apology.

Tennis is a competitive sport, and these are professionals playing, can we just forgive them for behaving such? As long as they don't bring it off-court, its ok with me. It is part of a sport full of drama!

late in the 2nd set after she stretched Peer wide and Peer almost got the ball over the net right at Serena! Talk about Jekyl and Hyde! She seemed so calm and collected after the match. But she was definitely yelling "C'mon" at Peer's unforced errors, so non-Sharapova fans can now get off Maria's back for doing that.

Look, why are you trying to create drama when there is none? You don't know what the hell serena mouthed or said. So stop acting like you do. Hell even if serena called her a fucking bitch I could care less. They are in the heat of battle and who the fuck cares if they curse or not? If it was so bad why didnt she get a warning?

Maybe you should save your misplaced anger for something more appropriate like when players spit on ball boys. Where was your outrage when that happened?

you need a red dot defiinitely.

There is ansolutely nothing wrong in saying c'mon or fist pumping after winning a point.( Be it a double fault, or opponent's error, because, if the going gets tough, you will take any point you can get.)

That being said, I watch this match on and off, not being a fan of WTA, on one or two occasions, I was shocked at Serena's behaviour.

And before the William fans start denying this, there was one particular point when Serena was up 4-0 or 5-0 when she had a winner at net and purposely screamed c'mon at Peer apparently because all the possible winners Serena was hitting was coming back. Even Cliff Drysdale commented on that scream.

As for yelling at the net, Serena was in no danger of being hit by that ball. Having studied Physics extensively, the trajectory of the ball couldn't possibly have coincided with her. Even after the ball landed in the net, it was far away from where she was.

Also it is no denying that Serena said something directly to the camera/crowd/umpire (and not to herself).
Be it "This bitch try to hit me" or "Did she just try to hit me?" I believe it was the latter because she was asking a question.

All in all, I believe the conditions were fustrating Serena because her behaviour was poor compare to what it is usually is.

I also advise the Sharapova and Serena fans to reconcile because I don't see any differences between these two, both behaviour wise and gamewise. Because sooner or later everyone will be tired of the double standards shown to both players.

Cliff Drysdale also commented on Peer's come ons and fist pumps but oh well right. As it turned out, it missed me by a good two feet, but I can promise you I didn't stand there sorting out the exact trajectory and likelihood it would rearrange my face before deciding to duck and cover.

Didn't see the match, don't need to have done so to know that Serena can get pretty fired up and is not always a model of decorum and propriety on court. And yes, a some of her fans are blind to this fact.

Serena is also not Satan, or a model of all that is improper and wrong on court. And some of her detractors are blind to THIS fact.

I don't think we need 4 (+?) pages to prove either.

That being said, I watch this match on and off, not being a fan of WTA, on one or two occasions, I was shocked at Serena's behaviour.
So, you couldn't possibly know the circumstances under which Serena was playing. Therefore, how can you have an opinion on her behavior

And before the William fans start denying this, there was one particular point when Serena was up 4-0 or 5-0 when she had a winner at net and purposely screamed c'mon at Peer apparently because all the possible winners Serena was hitting was coming back. Even Cliff Drysdale commented on that scream.
Wrong again. It was 4-3 in the second set at deuce. Cliff just asked why all of a sudden is this an in your face match and MJ said it just goes to show how close Serena felt this match was in the second set.

As for yelling at the net, Serena was in no danger of being hit by that ball. Having studied Physics extensively, the trajectory of the ball couldn't possibly have coincided with her. Even after the ball landed in the net, it was far away from where she was.

Do you even play tennis? Unfortunately most of us who do play, have not studied Physics at all and when you see a ball coming at you, it's hard to tell whether it's going to hit you or go into the net. Also, it landed in the net right in front of Serena. So, she was justified in thinking that the girl was trying to hit her with the ball.

What?!!

How do you know that every black tennis fan only likes either Serena or Venus?

How can you be sure that every black person are biased and prefer the Williams sisters over any caucasian? You may say that you've met people who've said so, but how many would that be? 1? 2? 3? Or maybe even 0? Africans make up around 30% of the population in the US, which is around 50 million or so. I somehow doubt you've managed to meet 50 million people of a certain race...

And what kind of a rule is this?: "It's like if you're black then you are expected to like the sisters... even if you know nothing about tennis." That's pushing it too far, don't you think? Especially when I doubt you've met every black person on this planet - or even a significant % - to say such a thing.

I say this because you can look at the crowd in LA at the YEC on any given year and you'll see tons of African-Americans shouting for Serena/Venus (up, out of their seats even) and you can just tell they probably never followed tennis until the sisters came along... if they did, you would have seen many more of them before the sisters came on the scene. ...or do you mean like a lot of Germans got into tennis after Boris Becker started winning...

...or do you mean like how a lots of the Swiss started showing up at major events once Chucky started winning...

But its wrong is African Americans decide to cheer for an African American player.

As for your idiotic assumptions that you could just tell their lack of tennis fandom...

...I was in the crowd and I was cheering for the Williams and I've been following and playing the game since the early 70s...last time I checked most African Americans were quite aware of the sport long before the Williams Sisters came along (ever heard of a man named Ashe?)...

...they might not have felt the need to spend money to watch Sanchez Vicario lose to Graf (I know I didn't  )...

Because it's so frustrating to see. I know of NO african american that prefers a caucasion player over the sisters... but I know of many caucasians that love the sisters...
I just don't understand the divide...

It's like if you're black then you are expected to like the sisters... even if you know nothing about tennis.

wow ingorance rears its ugly head.

You mean like how there were a lot of Swedes who got into tennis once Borg started winning...

...or do you mean like a lot of Germans got into tennis after Boris Becker started winning...

...or do you mean like how a lots of the Swiss started showing up at major events once Chucky started winning...

But its wrong is African Americans decide to cheer for an African American player.

As for your idiotic assumptions that you could just tell their lack of tennis fandom...

...I was in the crowd and I was cheering for the Williams and I've been following and playing the game since the early 70s...last time I checked most African Americans were quite aware of the sport long before the Williams Sisters came along (ever heard of a man named Ashe?)...

...they might not have felt the need to spend money to watch Sanchez Vicario lose to Graf (I know I didn't  )...

..."you could just tell"...

...guess what I think I can "just tell" about you...

...:retard:

Bravo. I see it as well and probably everyone else in the thread. She/he is so transparent its not even funny just sad and pathetic.
