is it me or does she look very slow today. She's moving slowly in between points, there's little intensity from her, i wonder if maybe her knee is bothering her ab it. She's winning easily so far, up 3-0, but something looks very off today.

I think she's just pacing herself.;)

I agree somewhat; maybe it's the weather, tho.

On another note, while that catsuit looks nice and Serena looks nice in it, her ass looks very flabby when she walks in it. Not flattering at all. The black one was a lot better, IMO. Maybe not enough lycra to support Serena's ass-et.

She does seem a bit disgruntled.

Peer's not bad.

I love how shes going for the lines and her second serves are looking exceptional.

venus_rulez
Mar 27th, 2005, 10:31 PM
Yeah her second serves look incredible, but for Serena to lose 3 games in a row to a very young up and comer is VERY surprising.

LindsayRocks89
Mar 27th, 2005, 10:32 PM
she is looking sluggish and has no aces. Serena really needs to stick to hitting her shots hard, i don't like when she just hits the ball back lightly.

come on Serena

I think Serena is playing well. Peer is just very talented! :)

Can't be a bagel all the time, but she seems to be missing too many bp's...

venus_rulez
Mar 27th, 2005, 10:36 PM
The way she is playing reminds me of her Wimbledon final in '03 against venus, thought her being sluggish made sense. It's her sister and she wasn't sure how venus would come out. But the first set almost took an hour and "normal" serena would have finished this match up in about an hour.

LindsayRocks89
Mar 27th, 2005, 10:38 PM
she needs to get her feet moving quicker, and cut down on the errors.

Shes a bit sluggish, but erratic as usual.

I think Serena just did not expect a challenge...seems frustrated by Peer....plus she might be saving her energy for later rounds.

Mar 27th, 2005, 10:43 PM
Serena has been more aggravated than usual this match. I'm not so sure she's tired, but she's not appreciating how Peer won't just give up like so many opponents have done. Serena has not been pleasant to watch....she's just angry today.

Wannabeknowitall
Mar 27th, 2005, 10:46 PM
Peer reminds me so much of Sandrine Testud. Her backhand, the way she moves, her persistence, her gritty play, her serve, and even her hair. Sandrine just frustrated a lot of players on tour. I see Peer doing the same.

Gogo123
Mar 27th, 2005, 10:46 PM
So how did she play those last 3 games?
I think she only lost a point or two and seems to go to the net to finish them off.

It is possible for Serena to appreciate Peer's determination and will and yet be upset at how she, Serena, is playing.

How is Shahar playing? can you please tell me?
thanks for all the good comments

Shahar is playing with great feistiness and heart. She is moving the ball around and playing great defense. Her serve is pretty bad.

I'm sure Serena doesn't mind Peer fighting, but she seems irritated at the errors she's making. It's also very hot and humid.

Mar 27th, 2005, 10:57 PM
Shahar is looking sharp and speedy. She's putting up a good fight, but there's no way this match isn't going to Serena.

venus_rulez
Mar 27th, 2005, 10:57 PM
Shahar is running for everything playing fairly consistent tennis. The amazing thing is she has more winners than Serena. She is giving Serena a run for her money though Serena is very sluggish. If you saw this match and her reactions and grunting you would think she were playing Sharapova.

if you look in the live scores, Serena has about twice as many winners, and that seems right. i think mary jo is giving out the wrong numbers lol

No matter the outcome Shahar can be proud that she gave it a good fight even down 5-0 in the first to Serena. It's great to see someone with no experience come out and have belief in themselves against the most imposing figure in the game.

Really? they showed stats on ESPN and shahr had more winner and less errors than Serena. it wasn't by much but still a surprise. Hmmm maybe the statisticians are busy watching the match instead of taking the stats

I'm so proud of Shahar. 6 games from Serena in her first Big match.

What do you think about Shahar offense? She has around 15 Winners, which is good. Sound like you weren't impressed by her offense.

This is a great workout for Serena. She has to hit a lot of balls, construct a lot of points. She hasn't played her best -- but she hasn't played badly either, just been frustrated sometimes by the slow pace and retrieving.

I don't quite see why Serena seems SO pissed off. LOL

JenCpLvr
Mar 27th, 2005, 11:08 PM
Serena's face after she won that one point was just gross... She pumped her first and yelled like a baboon and stared directly at Peer...it seemed quite inappropriate to me.

I'm sure it was only because she was relieved that the ugly volley she hit barely cleared the other side of the net. :wavey:

It seemed like a good match. Serena had 30 winners and just 3 aces for her big serve. It's nice to see she being tested, but I'm glad she won in straights. Go Serena!

So.. is this Peer good, then? Nice to see good players coming up from different countries other than Russia, hehe.

I didn't really get it either. LOL.

Serena was frustrated with her play. She compared Peer to Sanchez-Vicario.

She didn't want to say what she said to her after the match except for saying "good job!"

Yeah, but she seemed to be upset even before that. She was shaking her fist and glaring at Peer. I saw her do that twice even before that passing shot. Granted I only started watching the match at 4-2 in the second.

btw, the top of that outfit is bizzare. It just looks like it doesn't cover up Serena's sports bra although I'm sure it was designed that way.

Seems strange that Serena would get upset about that because when Serena played doubles she went straight for opponents routinely.

Don't be silly. I tuned in at 4-2 in the second set and watched all of it from that point on. I wasn't making sure I was paying attention to Serena's glares more than anything else that was going on in the match. I was taken aback about how extremely upset Serena seemed to be because she was fist pumping, glaring, and yelling across the net at this lowly ranked player. I thought perhaps soemthing had happened earlier in the match to make Serena pissed off, so I asked the question.

LMAO....I missed the match, but sounds like a typical early round match for Serena. I think Serena uses it as a scare tactic, but doesn't really work on opponents who have no fear.
