Let's what the (supposedly) best serve on tour can do.....let's see if Alicia is really special or just......

Alicia IS special. she's been playing well for a while now. leave her alone :)

Serves dont get you breaks. A scoreline of 6-2 6-1 isn't an indicator of better serving of say a scoreline of 6-4 7-5.

Anyways, I think Molik will win in 3, but wouldn't mind henin winning this.

Justine will show us how good that serve really is.

I say Henin in straights.

Henin seems to be playing well while Molik struggled against Dulko. I think that Henin will win in three.

Henins ground game is much better than ALicia's. You can't win a match on just your serve. And  at the backstabbing comments about her supposedly the best serve. I don't care who wins since I like them both. But if Henin is on she will prevail. If she's rusty then ALicia will overpower her.

if justine is back to where she was, then she'll win, but this is the big test, isn't it? kim passed her first REAL test vs. petrova, then won her 2nd event back, i think as long as justine wins this one, there's a great chance to see her pull off some good matches in the clay season no matter how this event finishes for her

a lot of you aren't giving alicia enough credit....

Alicia's grounstrokes are actually better than a lot of you are giving her credit for...her forehand can just be amazing sometimes!...and if she has her serve and her forehand going i think it will be very very tough for justine to come through with a win.

But if justine is playing very well and alicia is playing very well it should be a really close, tough battle!

And also alicia had a LONG 3 set doubles match after her singles today as well, so hopefully she isn't tired and hopefully she got all the rustiness and crappy play out of her system! ;)

rue
Mar 28th, 2005, 12:02 AM
It will be a real test for Justine, but if she can mix things up and be aggressive she has got a chance of coming out with a win. I would love to see her win just so that we can see a Justine-Sharapova match up. That one would be a really exciting one to watch.

You have a point there. laot still seems unlcear esp with justine is concerned, she has yet to play a player of Molik's calibre, but that said, considering how tiny dulko is with such a samll serve, one epeceted alicia to literally maul her serve and make it impossible for dulko to get to her kick serves.
we figure justine has got to be a better player than dulko but nothing is that easy in tennis, who would have though maria would gabe serena the firhgts at the AO who then went on to bagel lindsay could bedouble bagelled by that same player.
the scheduling may screw alicia, at miami, plauerd are being asked to be back on court barely before they leave it yet it is a ten day event.
That said, justine has been at no.1 won slams and with her she could lose to or beat anyone. I feel she has a surprise in store.

One thing about Justine is to "NEVER EVER COUNT HER OUT". She always has come up with some really good wins when people thought that she was out of it. She is just so mentally strong. I am not sure if it will work this time around, but I think that is what will make her win against Alicia tomorrow. This is just by own prediction

LiliaLee-Frazier

This is going to be ULTRA close...Alicia will have to play better then she did today if she wants to win.

well i think there are some people who are underestimating justine as well -- especially her mental fortitude. this is a girl, like serena williams, who has won matches over the past 2 years on pure grit and desire. that's it. there are times when other players who are obviously stronger and more imposing than she is lose to her because she wants to win badly. and when things get tight i expect mental strength to win out over big serves and big forehands.

i don't know how well justine will play tomorrow, but i know that she'll do her best to not disappoint her fans, her team, and herself.

allez justine!!

Im not too sure. Its a tough one to pick.

I thought Alicia would deal with Justine fairly easy when the draw was released but seeing Alicia play not soo good this week and now playing a bllody long doubles match, im slightly leaning towards Henin.

Henin on the other hand, hasn`t played in quite sometime, lacking match practice and perhaps mentally, she might struggle.

Henin def. Molik 6-4 6-4

if i was henin i shot on the back hand side of molik i saw her play couples of time her backhand is not very good if you compare with her forehand ¨:P but her big serve can be very effective in crucial points i think justine in 3 ¨:P

I think Justine, but I'm not quite sure in straight or 3 sets. One is because Justine has never lost to Alicia, and that will be the intangible. Add that to Justine's mental fortitude; it doesn't even matter that she's been gone for so long. She is not Serena or Venus Williams, so it won't take her months to regain her champion form. She has too much heart to lose to Alicia tomorrow.

Everyone is saying that Alicia has too good groundstrokes and will sweep Justine off the courts. Well, don't forget that Justine will have way too much variety for Alicia. Those of you who are counting Justine out just because Alicia has a big serve and forehand are completely forgetting that Justine's forehand isn't that bad anymore AND the fact that she's beaten players many times before that have big serves and forehands.

In the end, Justine is just too mentally tough. It doesn't matter that Alicia's playing the best tennis of her life. If anything, playing against Alicia will warm Justine up faster and bring out the best in her.

Allez Justine! :wavey:

Henin in straight sets. Alicia isn't playing as well as the start or the year or since Doha.

Mar 28th, 2005, 07:06 AM
One of the things about Molik I've noticed in recent months, is that she plays her best tennis against the best players. So I wouldn't be relying too much on her last match's performance to decide how well she will play against Henin.

Lemonskin.
Mar 28th, 2005, 07:56 AM
Their H2H is 3-0 in favour of Henin, but the highest Alicia was ranked when they've played before was #48. The most Alicia's ever challenged her was when she was Wimbledon 2003 when she was ranked #58. Henin won that 6-4 6-4.
