I've been a fan. A Big Fan. When the draws come out, she's the first player i search for and feel out her tournament.
I routed for her, cheered when she won, got sad when she lost.

She's simply not a good enough player to occupy my tennis life anymore.
She loses badly to players who absolutley suck. Cohen-Aloro ? in straights?
Daniela's a shell of what she was and after two miserable years, there was a one month glimmer of hope, and now she's back to the 03, 04 level.

Red dot me all you want, it matters zero to me. Make it bright red.
Daniela will never be back in the top ten, and i'll virtualbet anyone on that.

I wish her luck as always, but i'm moving up my #2,3,4 and 5 favorite players to 1,2,3 and 4.
So come on Venus, Serena, Elena, Maria and Justine. Bring it, like you consistently do.

I understand where you're coming from and i feel the way you do sometimes, but in the end what we as fans and the players have to realize is that tennis is just a game. Sure it's great to be glorified and be successful at any game, but the truth is there are millions of things more important than how Daniela does in a tennis match. i would like her to succeed, because she seems ike a nice smart girl with huge potential, but in the end i'm much more satisfied that she's dealing better with her parents' divorce and her weight, then how she performed at a Tier I tournament.

Lets give Daniela a chance - she has given some really good results this year :

Three wins at the Hopman Cup

1 semifinal in Doha, losing to eventual champion Sharapova
2 quarterfinals; Tokyo, losing in two tight tiebreaks and Dubai (losing to Serena)

Third round at Australian Open, losing to Dementieva in three tight sets

Second Round at Tier2 Sydney

Third round at Indian Wells

That looks impressive to me and are results to be proud off :hatoff: to Daniela

I routed for her especially because i felt very bad for her during the 'weight loss' travesty and how the anorexia rumors made her quite upset.
That's why i routed for her, not because of her potential, or talent necessarily.

I just feel that i'm now wasting my time with her.

If she doesn't care about her tennis, why should I.

Obviously she does care. She cares too much. She hasn't responded well to pressure which is a huge part of succeeding at this level. Also she doesn't have the power, speed or shots to be in the top 10. Still she shouldn't be losing to the Cohen-Aloros

I know it's a crappy feeling when you're a fan of someone and all you get is disappointments. If you can't take it, maybe it's for the best to focus on some other player for a while, and then pick up Dani when she gets her game together. Which I think she will do sooner or later.
I think it's the right approach she and her coach have taken, to cut down on the errors, take less risks and bring in consistency. Ofcourse, it's easier said than done, and I'm not supposing to know what went wrong today, but unlike some here, I do see her as a potential top player (once again). She can play the modern tennis with the best of them, all she needs is to learn how to keep the package together. As I said, I don't know where the problem is, but whether it's technique or more in the spiritual realm, it can be fixed all the same. I think (read: hope) she'll be fine, and continue to have a large fan base. No matter how frustrated some of them are today. :)

:yeah:

This year, Daniela has pushed Kuznetsova and Dementieva, beaten Molik and got a score closer to Serena than ever before (and Serena was unusually satisfied with her game after that match). She's gained about 10 places in the rankings and is on the edge of the top 20 again. :)

However, at the moment, if you are supporting Daniela then expect anything. She has good days and bad days. I mean, she beat Molik a few weeks back by the same score she lost today to Cohen-Aloro!

Supporting some players involves more than just expecting to be able sit down and follow the match and then waiting for what you expect the result to be.

Well when it comes down to it, you just can't expect Daniela to win every match. She is a playing ranked between 20-40. If you expect her to get back into the top ten then it's just not going to happen. She is not as powerful as the top players, not as fast as the top players, not as mentally strong as the top players, not as motivated as the top players, and most of all not as consistent as the top players. I just don't see how she can get up to the top 10 again. Top 20 maybe, but a big part of it is the consistency. As a fan you have two options. You either stick by her through the highs and lows and keep your hopes up or you can just make yourself stop caring. She's going to have these weird losses. That's what her ranking reflects. You'd expect those ranked in the twenties and thirties to lose to lower ranked players occasionally. However, if you are still a fan, then you've just got to hope that she gets her game together and at least get herself in better shape and in better motivation to work on her consistency. If she can do that then maybe she can get back into the top 20, make it into the fourth rounds and quarterfinals of bigger tournaments, so that you, her fans, can watch her play on tv.

I do agree that Daniela will never be a top 10 player again. I said that about a month ago. However she is not a terrible player. When she plays well she is dangerous. When off she is an easy out. I think she can hang around the top 20-30 for quite some time. Whether she will ever completely straighten out her personal life is another story. Hopefully she can. I may not be a fan of hers but I wish her the best. She has been through some tough times. As long she can remain happy with her life that is ultimately all that matters.

actually, she can't. And she's shown that. Except for a fluke win over Amelie at Eastborne last year, she's shown that she can not play with the top 20.
i don't feel 'pushing' top players matters. It's a loss regardless.

And awww, the red dots ! How hurtful ! lmao ! How will i ever sleep tonight ?!

Well, I guess that's one way to get over it.

Maybe I was being too optimistic, but I've followed her career too for a long while and I think she deserves much more than to be dissed after facing difficulties, AFTER coming back from a DIFFICULT period of time. You won't be gaining any red dots from me though, I've been there, done that, and won't be bothered. :)

You know, it is hard to go for a player who isn't consistent, but that's not what being a fan is about. Surely you admire her mainly for personal qualities don't you? Which I don't think depreciate with poor tennis.

But whatever, it's your opinion

It was probably a mental lapse or something.. aniwae.. she still has got a great game afterall- one of the rare number of gals who hit and move so gracefully ( the other being Mary! ;P ) coupled with great looks and good fashion sense ( but that's besides the point... lol)

Real fans should stick with their player no matter if they are winning or losing.
I'm a huge fan of Dominik Hrbaty, today he stunk up the joint, made 42 UE's in 2 sets losing to Ferrer. He always chokes in big matches where hes the favourite
I will still be cheering him on at the next tournament though bc nothing that I oringally liked him for has changed. Dani's fans who originally liked her for something other than her results will still be cheering her too despite the bad losses.

i'm sure this is going to cut right to daniela's heart. how will she ever recover?

part of being a fan is not giving up on them and if you do not feeling the need to go right a thread about how much they suck.

i can speak from experience as well as a loyal patty supporter. at least you don't have to read people calling your favourite a bitch in every thread relating to her. although in many ways i think that's why i have remained a fan - i enjoy defending her whilst being aware that she has numerous faults.
