Lenglen, Wills, Connolly, Court, Evert, King, Navi, Goolagong, Graf, Serena.
No place for Seles among top 10 greatest ever.

We have to draw the circle wider. That includes the likes of Bueno, Hingis, Venus, Brough, Gibson - and Seles. Done!

Thank God no-one here in GM said that.

BTW, what about "best at peak"?
OK, #1 is of course Graf. But then .... ?

Believe me...it WAS someone in GM....

Best at peak.....can you be in the top 10 peak players without a Wimbledon title in your best year?

Yes.
Seles for example.
Without a doubt in the "top 10 peak".
She was only one of two players ever who - when she played at her peak - could beat an in-form Steffi Graf (not a PEAK Graf of course; peak Graf was not human ... ).

Of course, many all time greats have failed at one of the slams. What is the difference between Wimby and any of the other slams?

even with wimbledon, i wouldn't call her an-all time great

How can you make a judgement on someone along time before they've finished their career?

i'm saying that if you look at her career right now, with everything she has done and add a wimbledon title, in my opinion that wouldn't make her an all-time great.

Even my grandma (r.i.p. :worship: ) knew they reigning Wimbledon champs each year. But she asked me every other year: "What is U.S. Open?", often confusing it with YEC and Davis Cup ...

Nuh! Imagine if Ivan Lendl had won wimbledon. Would put a different spin on his career

Well that actually speaks more to her ignorance as opposed to the significance of Wimbledon...

That's not nice.

As for Justine, she'll need to play and win for several more years now before this discussion really becomes relevant or plausible.

Wimbledon is all about badbounces quick points and heavy serving. The real tennis is plyed in New York and Paris. This means that Sampras is not a atg because he never won Roland garros. Like venus Williams, like Martina Hingis

Seles has more slams than Lenglen, Goologong and Serena.

If you want to put Serena ahead of her that's fine because she has all slams but there is no way you can put Lenglen or Goologong ahead of Seles.

Impressive...but top 3, wouldn't that be pushing it? That'd be putting her ahead of players who DID manage to win wimbledon..

I'd take three consecutive French open titles over a missing Wimbledon title anyday.

not alone, maybe if she had more titles to go along with it, doubles achievements. she does have a gold medal. . .

Of course. Be serious. If she wins 35 GS singles titles, and doesn't win Wimbledon, she'd not only BE an all-time great, she'd be THE alltime great.

Does the fact that Monica Seles never won Wimbledon mean SHE'S not an all-time great? Hopw many players can you, using the most liberal of definitions, ranke ahead of Monica. MAYBE fifteen, tops. And you'd have to count mixed doubles GS titles the same as singles titles to get that high.

WImbledon is NOT the Holy Grail. Maybe it was once, but that 'once' was along time ago.

And Borg never won the US Open. Nor did Goolagong. Lendl never won Wimbledon.

By the way, who is "enna?"
